Quantitative reconstruction of salinity and precipitation changes in Central Asia over the past 3200 years using diatom and pollen records of lacustrine sediment in Aibi Lake of SW Junggar Basin

The response of lake environments in arid Central Asia to climate change during the Late Holocene over the centennial to millennial timescales remains contentious. The reason that primarily paleoenvironmental proxies interpreting diverse and the scarcity of accurate quantitative reconstruction records. In this study， we employed diatoms and pollen records from lacustrine sediment in the Aibi Lake of SW Junggar Basin to quantitatively reconstruct salinity and watershed precipitation amounts while exploring the associated forcing mechanism. The results indicate that Aibi Lake salinity varied between 2 g/L and 47 g/L during the Late Holocene period， indicating a generally brackish environment， and corresponding to prevailing Tryblionella granulata diatom in the lake basin. Westerly-dominated annual precipitation varied between 250 mm and 320 mm during the Late Holocene period in the basin， exhibiting a generally semi-arid environment and prevailing desert steppe vegetation. The Aibi Lake has a low salinity of average value of ～15 g/L. It exhibits elevated precipitation (average value of ～280 mm) during the periods of the Roman Warm Period (2900-1990 cal yr BP)， Dark Age Cold Period (1570-1140 cal yr BP)， and Little Ice Age (590-120 cal yr BP). The reconstructed precipitation and salinity exhibit a periodicity of ～200 years， which is consistent with the cycle of phase changes of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) and Total Solar Irradiance (TSI). This correlation suggests that variations in NOA and TSI significantly influence the precipitation and salinity changes in Central Asia over centennial to millennial timescales.

Surface-confined persistent luminescence with amplified FRET efficiency for cell-cell communication monitoring

Microbial communication monitoring is vital for understanding the mechanisms beneath gut microbiota equilibrium, infections,and biomanufacturing. Herein, we reported monitoring bacterial communication by surface-confined persistent ***, we constructed core-shell structured Zn1.4Ga1.2Ge0.4O4@Zn1.4Ga1.2Ge0.4O4:Cr（ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr） persistent luminescence nanoparticles（PLNPs） with amplified FRET efficiency for the detection of azoreductase（AzoR） that participates in bacterial communication. ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr nanoparticles were functionalized with an azo black hole quencher（ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr-BHQ-3）. Due to the proximity of surface-confined persistent luminescence with the surface-bound BHQ-3,ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr-BHQ-3 exhibited a FRET efficiency up to 1.6 times that of traditional ZGGO:Cr-BHQ-3. Further, the specific catalytic reduction of azo bonds in BHQ-3 by bacterial extracellular AzoR recovers the persistent luminescence of ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr. ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr-BHQ-3 displayed superior sensitivity and speed in detecting extracellular AzoR over ZGGO:Cr-BHQ-3, attributed to its surface-confined persistent luminescence. We found that the peak secretion of AzoR occurs during the exponential growth period of bacteria including S. aureus and E. coli based on the persistent luminescence recovery rate of ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr-BHQ-3. Furthermore, ZGGO@ZGGO:Cr-BHQ-3 was used to probe the communication between different bacterial species. R. palustris is a kind of lycopene-production bacteria. We found that the cohabitation of R. palustris and S. putrefaciens boosted both AzoR secretion and lycopene production. Moreover, the secretion and activity of AzoR positively correlated with lycopene production, suggesting that AzoR may participate in the communication between R. palustris and S. putrefaciens to promote lycopene production. This study offers a robust method to enhance PLNP-based biosensing sensitivity and provides a promising strategy for microbial communication monitoring.

The management of acute ischemic stroke remains challenging due to its abrupt onset and the narrow treatment window,resulting in high rates of disability and *** therapy for neuroprotection and neurorepair strategies provided new hopes for subacute stroke *** we designed a multistage nanodelivery system that matches the unique microenvironment of the subacute phase of stroke,which utilizes calixarene as a building block to effectively load the neuroprotective drug *** calixarene is designed with glycosidic linkages targeting the glucose transporter 1 (GLUT1)on the blood-brain barrier (BBB) and azo bonds that are responsive to hypoxic ***,the decomposed calixarene molecules themselves possess intrinsic bio-activation to modulate inflammatory responses,achieving a multistage therapeutic approach that transitions from targeting to release and finally to *** approach combines anti-inflammation and neuroprotection,providing a multi-level treatment *** system was validated in a rat model of permanent middle cerebral artery occlusion (pMCAO),demonstrating that intravenous administration of the nanodelivery system repairs brain damage and improves motor function 24 h post-pMCAO *** work offers a precise and integrative strategy for stroke patients missing the acute therapy window to improve functional recovery and enhance the effect of comprehensive treatment.

Photoactive complexes of nonprecious transition metals, mainly including those in the first-row and partially the second-row of the Periodic table of elements, have received increasing attention in view of their low cost and long-term sustainability. They are recognized as promising alternatives to noble transition metal complex congeners that have been extensively studied in optoelectronic devices, artificial photosynthesis, photocatalysis, biodiagnostics, and therapeutics, etc. This review is devoted to a comprehensive summary on the classical and recent advances on photoactive nonprecious transition metal complexes, including photoactive Zr, V, Cr, Mo, and W complexes, Mn complexes and hybrids, Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu complexes, and Zn and Cd complexes and hybrids. A particular focus is given on the molecular design, modulation of photophysical and photochemical properties, and applications of the representative and lately-developed nonprecious metal complexes. In addition, a perspective on the future development in this field is provided at the end of this review.

MPEG-7 is an ISO/IEC standard developed by MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group), MPEG-7,formally named "Multimedia Content Description Interface", aims to create a standard for describing the multimedia content data. In this paper,firstly we introduce the context of MPEG-7,MPEG-7 objectives and parts. Then we analyze the MPEG-7 eXperimentation Model(XM) reference software, including application types,software models and the implementation of descriptors and description schemes. Finally we discuss the possible application of MPEG-7 in AVTMS.

Metastable seed-crystals: epitaxial growth of branched-array organic heterostructure nanowires

Tunable light–matter interactions are exhibited by organic low-dimensional crystals, making these crystals a promising platform for organic photonics. However, the precise synthesis of organic low-dimensional crystals remains challenging due to the stochastic nature of molecular nucleation processes. Herein, the directed nucleation process is driven by the introduction of metastable seed-crystals as the trunk, which ultimately leads to branched-array organic heterostructures. The successful formation of organic heterostructures with high-density branched arrays is attributed to the highest attachment energy (Eatt（023）=-104.25 kcal mol-1) of the exposed （023） crystal plane during the seed-crystal growth route. Significantly, these as-prepared heterostructures inherently have an ultralow lattice mismatch ratio η of 0.7%between trunk and branch, which contributes to the multi-channel photon transportation. Therefore, this work provides valuable insights into a versatile synthetic strategy for accessing low-dimensional heterostructures for integrated optoelectronics.

Effect and safety of stimulating acupoints in children with cough variant asthma：A Meta-analysis

OBJECTIVE:To evaluate the efficacy and safety of stimulating acupoints in subjects with childhood cough variant asthma(CVA).METHODS:A Meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials(RCTs) about the comparison between acupoint sticking therapy and non-acupoint sticking therapy for childhood CVA was *** trials' quality and risk bias were assessed using the Cochrane Handbook *** ratio(OR) or risk ratio(RR) with 95% confidence intervals(CIs),mean differences(MDs) or standardized mean differences(SMDs) of a random-effects model were *** was assessed by P value and I2 ***:Thirteen studies were included in our review,indicating that the total effective rate of stimulating-acupoint group is better than that of control group [RR 1.19,95% CI(1.13-1.26),P < 0.00001].The recurrence rate in two years [RR 0.31,95%CI(0.19-0.51),P < 0.000 01] and cough duration[MD =-2.42,95% CI(-3.75,-1.09),P = 0.0004]of childhood CVA in stimulating-acupoint group were significantly lower than those in control ***,stimulating acupoints can reduce the level of Ig E [SMD =-0.75,95% CI(-1.21,-0.30),P = 0.001] and EOS [SMD =-0.36,95% CI(-0.92,0.21),P = 0.22].CONCLUSION:Our findings suggest that stimulating acupoints had positive effects on childhood CVA and was relatively safe ***,more RCTs with more useful indicators are warrant to confirm the current findings.

Surface micro-arrays enhancing electromagnetic interference shielding of polydimethylsiloxane/multiwalled carbon nanotubes nanocomposites

Herein,the electromagnetic shielding performance of surface concave-convex(SC)and zig-zag micro-arrays was studied by using a simulation prediction and a three-dimensional(3D)printing custom ***,surface stripe concaveconvex(SSC)and surface cylindrical concave-convex(SCC)micro-arrays with or without zig-zag micro-arrays are designed,and their shielding performance is simulated in multi-bands(C-,X-band).The multiwalled carbon nanotubes/polydimethylsiloxane composites(MWCNT/PDMS)with different SC structures and different electrical conductivity are molded in acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene copolymer(ABS)molds which are printed by a 3D *** results show that the electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness(EMI SE)of the samples can be enhanced by constructing the SC micro-arrays with zig-zag micro-arrays,and improving with the increase of conductivity and *** addition,the shielding mechanism of the SC-MWCNT/PDMS composites is investigated and discussed by an electromagnetic simulation.

Genetic polymorphism of MCP-1-2518,IL-8-251 and susceptibility to acute pancreatitis:A pilot study in population of Suzhou,China

AIM： To study the relationship between MCP-1-2518A/ G, IL-8-251A/T polymorphism and acute pancreatitis （AP） in the Han population of Suzhou, China. METHODS： A case-control study was conducted to compare the distribution of genotype and genetic frequency of MCP-1-2518A/G, IL-8-251A/T gene polymorphism among AP （n = 101）, including mild AP （n = 78） and severe AP （n = 23） and control healthy individuals （n = 120） with polymerase chain reaction- restriction fragment length polymorphism （PCR-RFLP） and DNA sequencing, and analyze the relationship between the MCP-1-2518A/G, IL-8-251A/T gene polymorphism and the susceptibility to AP. RESULTS： Significant differences were found in the distribution of genotype of MCP-1-2518A/G between the healthy control group and mild AP group （χ^2 = 32.015, P 〈 0.001）, the same was evident between the healthy control group and severe AP group （χ^2 = 12.932, P 〈 0.05） in Suzhou. However, no difference of genotypic distribution was noted between MAP and SAP （Z2 = 0.006, P = 0.997）. The genetic frequencies of G allele in mild AP were 72.4% （113/156） and 76.1% （35/46） in severe AP, both were higher than the controls, 47.1% （113/240）（χ^2 = 24.804; P 〈 0.001, and 4,2 = 13：005; P 〈 0.001）, but no difference was found between severe AP and mild AP （χ^2 = 0.242, P = 0.623）. No difference was found in the distribution of genotype of IL-8-251A/T between the healthy control group and AP group neither in the frequency of A and T allele. CONCLUSION： The MCP-1-2518 AA genotype of the population in Suzhou may be a protective genotype of AP, while one with higher frequency of G allele is more likely to suffer from pancreatitis. But the genotype of AA and the frequency of G allele could not predict the risk of severe AP. No correlation is found between the IL-8-251 polymorphism and the liability of AP.
