Species identification of crested gibbons(Nomascus) in captivity in China using karyotyping-and PCR-based approaches

Gibbons and siamangs （Hylobatidae） are well-known for their rapid chromosomal evolution,which has resulted in high speciation rate within the *** the other hand,distinct karyotypes do not prevent speciation,allowing interbreeding between individuals in captivity,and the unwanted hybrids are ethically problematic as all gibbon species are endangered or critically ***,accurate species identification is crucial for captive breeding,particularly in China where studbooks are *** based on external morphology is difficult,especially for hybrids,because species are usually similar in *** this study,we employed G-banding karyotyping and fluorescence in situ hybridization （FISH） as well as a PCR-based approach to examine karyotypic characteristics and identify crested gibbons of the genus Nomascus from zoos and nature reserves in *** characterized and identified five karyotypes from 21 individuals of *** karyotypes and mitochondrial and nuclear genes,we identified three purebred species and three hybrids,including one F2 hybrid between *** and *** results also supported that *** and *** shared the same inversion on chromosome 7,which resolves arguments from previous *** results demonstrated that both karyotyping and DNA-based approaches were suitable for identifying purebred species,though neither was ideal for hybrid *** advantages and disadvantages of both approaches are *** results further highlight the importance of animal ethics and welfare,which are critical for endangered species in captivity.

Graph is a well known data structure to represent the associated relationships in a variety of applications,e.g.,data science and machine *** a wealth of existing efforts on developing graph processing systems for improving the performance and/or energy efficiency on traditional architectures,dedicated hardware solutions,also referred to as graph processing accelerators,are essential and emerging to provide the benefits significantly beyond what those pure software solutions can *** this paper,we conduct a systematical survey regarding the design and implementation of graph processing ***,we review the relevant techniques in three core components toward a graph processing accelerator:preprocessing,parallel graph computation,and runtime *** also examine the benchmarks and results in existing studies for evaluating a graph processing ***,we find that there is not an absolute winner for all three aspects in graph acceleration due to the diverse characteristics of graph processing and the complexity of hardware *** finally present and discuss several challenges in details,and further explore the opportunities for the future research.

Semi-supervised community detection on attributed networks using non-negative matrix tri-factorization with node popularity

The World Wide Web generates more and more data with links and node contents,which are always modeled as attributed *** identification of network communities plays an important role for people to understand and utilize the semantic functions of the data.A few methods based on non-negative matrix factorization(NMF)have been proposed to detect community structure with semantic information in attributed ***,previous methods have not modeled some key factors(which affect the link generating process together),including prior information,the heterogeneity of node degree,as well as the interactions among *** three factors have been demonstrated to primarily affect the *** this paper,we propose a semi-supervised community detection method on attributed networks by simultaneously considering these three ***,a semi-supervised non-negative matrix tri-factorization model with node popularity(i.e.,PSSNMTF)is designed to detect communities on the topology of the *** then node contents are integrated into the PSSNMTF model to find the semantic communities more accurately,namely *** of the PSSNMTFC model is estimated by using the gradient descent *** on some real and artificial networks illustrate that our new method is superior over some related stateof-the-art methods in terms of accuracy.

Dear editor,This letter models and analyzes the Matthew effect under switching social networks via distributed competition.A competitive strategy is leveraged to trace the evolution of individuals in social systems under the Matthew *** addition,a consensus filter is utilized to decentralize the model with undirected graphs used to describe the interactions among individuals in social ***,a term is added to the dynamic consensus filter to compensate for the influence of the switching of communication networks on the *** this letter,the convergence of the proposed Matthew effect model is theoretically proved,and simulative experiments are conducted to verify the availability of the *** particular,this letter points out the state and evolution of each individual in social systems with distributed competition,and the influence of the social environment on the development of individuals is also intuitively displayed.

Application of extended criteria donor grafts in liver transplantation for acute-on-chronic liver failure:A retrospective cohort study

BACKGROUND There is no consensus on the usage of extended criteria donor(ECD)grafts in liver transplantation(LT)for acute-on-chronic liver failure(ACLF)*** To summarize the experience of using ECD livers in *** A retrospective cohort study was conducted,enrolling patients who underwent LT at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-Sen University from January 2015 to November *** patients were divided into ECD and non-ECD groups for *** A total of 145 recipients were enrolled in this study,of which ECD and non-ECD recipients accounted for 53.8%and 46.2%,*** after cardiac death(DCD)recipients accounted for the minority compared with donation after brain death(DBD)recipients(16.6%vs 83.4%).Neither overall survival nor graft survival significantly differed between ECD and non-ECD and DCD and DBD *** grafts were associated with a significantly higher incidence of early allograft dysfunction(EAD)than non-ECD grafts(67.9%vs 41.8%,P=0.002).Postoperative outcomes between DCD and DBD recipients were comparable(P>0.05).ECD graft(P=0.009),anhepatic phase(P=0.034)and recipient gamma glutamyltransferase(P=0.016)were independent risk factors for *** preoperative number of extrahepatic organ failures>2(P=0.015)and intraoperative blood loss(P=0.000)were independent predictors of poor post-LT *** Although related to a higher risk of EAD,ECD grafts can be safely used in *** main factors affecting post-LT survival in ACLF patients are their own severe preoperative disease and intraoperative blood loss.

Energy-efficient receding horizon trajectory planning of high-speed trains using real-time traffic information

Optimal trajectory planning of high-speed trains(HSTs)aims to obtain such speed curves that guarantee safety,punctuality,comfort and energy-saving of the *** this paper,a new shrinking horizon model predictive control(MPC)algorithm is proposed to plan the optimal trajectories of HSTs using real-time traffic *** nonlinear longitudinal dynamics of HSTs are used to predict the future behaviors of the train and describe variable slopes and variable speed limitations based on real-time traffic *** optimal trajectory planning of HSTs is formulated as the shrinking horizon optimal control problem with the consideration of safety,punctuality,comfort and energy *** to the real-time position and running time of the train,the shrinking horizon is updated to ensure the recursive feasibility of the optimization *** optimal speed curve of the train is computed by online solving the optimization problem with the Radau Pseudo-spectral method(RPM).Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method can satisfy the requirements of energy efficiency and punctuality of the train.

Towards an improved prediction of soil-freezing characteristic curve based on extreme gradient boosting model

As an essential property of frozen soils,change of unfrozen water content(UWC)with temperature,namely soil-freezing characteristic curve(SFCC),plays significant roles in numerous physical,hydraulic and mechanical processes in cold regions,including the heat and water transfer within soils and at the land–atmosphere interface,frost heave and thaw settlement,as well as the simulation of coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical *** various models have been proposed to estimate SFCC,their applicability remains limited due to their derivation from specific soil types,soil treatments,and test ***,this study proposes a novel data-driven model to predict the SFCC using an extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)model.A systematic database for SFCC of frozen soils compiled from extensive experimental investigations via various testing methods was utilized to train the XGBoost *** predicted soil freezing characteristic curves(SFCC,UWC as a function of temperature)from the well-trained XGBoost model were compared with original experimental data and three conventional *** results demonstrate the superior performance of the proposed XGBoost model over the traditional models in predicting *** study provides valuable insights for future investigations regarding the SFCC of frozen soils.

Overload type and optimization of meadow carrying capacity in Maqin County in the Three-River Source Region,China

Alpine meadows,comprising the main ecosystem of the Three-River Source Region,play an important role in the economic development of western pastoral *** determine whether the grazing level was too intense or the nutrient-carrying capacity of the meadows was overloaded,and to offer solutions in Maqin County,Qinghai Province,China,the meadows carrying capacity was determined by combining grass-yield and nutrients data for different seasons across different *** results showed that the levels of crude protein(CP),ether extract(EE),ash,soluble sugars(SS),gas production,and energy value of forage in the summer–autumn grazing meadows were higher than those of the winter–spring *** detergent fiber(NDF)and acid detergent fiber(ADF)of forage in the summer–autumn grazing meadows were lower than those of the winter–spring *** found that no pastures were overloaded with metabolizable energy(ME)for the whole year but digestible crude protein(DCP)was overloaded in winter–*** there were differences in the amount carrying capacity(forage yield)of seasonal grazing meadows for the different herds,the overload types were annual overloading(herd A),overloaded in summer–autumn(herd B),overloaded in winter–spring(herd C),and not overloaded(herd D).Compared with the previous grazing mode,theoretical carrying capacity,DCP carrying capacity,and ME carrying capacity of herd A increased by 20,19,and 27 sheep units,respectively,after optimization;herd B:36,31,and 45 sheep units,respectively;herd C:28,23,and 44 sheep units,respectively;and herd D:43,40,and 61 sheep units,*** the Three-River Source Region and similar alpine pastoral areas,the grassland-livestock structure should be optimized to improve grassland vegetation status and increase the theoretical carrying capacity.
