Re nanoclusters anchored on nanosheet supports: Formation of Re-O-matrix bonding and evaluation as all-pH-range hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) electrocatalysts

Although the water splitting-based generation of hydrogen as an energy carrier can help to mitigate the global problems of energy shortage and climate change,the practical implementation of this strategy is hindered by the absence of inexpensive high-performance electrocatalysts for the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER).Re-based HER electrocatalysts exhibit predictable high performance within the entire pH range but suffer from arduous formation (i.e.,vulnerability to oxidation) and uncontrollable aggregation,which strongly discourages the maximisation of active site exposure required for activity *** overcome these limitations,we herein hydrothermally synthesise Re nanoclusters uniformly distributed on nanosheet supports,such as reduced graphene oxide nanosheets (Re NCs@rGO),revealing that this hybrid features abundant exposed active sites and high oxidation *** obtained electrocatalysts were elaborately characterized by microscopic and spectroscopic ***,density functional theory calculations confirm the optimised synthesis of Re NCs@rGO and indicate the crucial role of Re–O–C junction formation in securing *** effective suppression of Re nanocluster detachment/dissolution under HER conditions endows Re NCs@rGO with high electron conductivity and electrochemical stability,resulting in a durability superior to that of commercial Pt/C and an activity similar to that of this *** a result,Re NCs@rGO exhibited remarkably small HER overpotentials of 110,130,and 93 m V to deliver a current density of 10 mA cm^(-2) in 0.5 M H_(2)SO_(4),1 M PBS,and 1 M KOH,***,Re NCs@rGO is a promising alternative to conventional Pt-group-metal catalysts and should find applications in next-generation high-performance water splitting systems.

The current fuzzy extensions for description logics do not support representing and reasoning with complex fuzzy knowledge about comparisons between degrees of membership,which is very useful in practical *** investigate a novel approach of extending the description logic SHOIQ to SHOIQ FC by annotating concepts and roles based on comparison *** FC provides the ability to represent complex fuzzy knowledge,in addition to the expressive power of the fuzzy description logic *** main contributions are a decidability proof for the consistency problem of SHOIQ FC knowledge bases,as well as its tableau-based reasoning algorithm.

The Natural Oscillation of Two Types of ENSO Events Based on Analyses of CMIP5 Model Control Runs

The eastern-and central-Pacific El Ni（n）o-Southem Oscillation （EP-and CP-ENSO） have been found to be dominant in the tropical Pacific Ocean,and are characterized by interannual and decadal oscillation,*** the present study,we defined the EP-and CP-ENSO modes by singular value decomposition （SVD） between SST and sea level pressure （SLP） anomalous *** evaluated the natural features of these two types of ENSO modes as simulated by the pre-industrial control runs of 20 models involved in phase five of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project （CMIP5）.The results suggested that all the models show good skill in simulating the SST and SLP anomaly dipolar structures for the EP-ENSO mode,but only 12 exhibit good performance in simulating the tripolar CP-ENSO *** analysis suggested that the ensemble principal components in these 12 models exhibit an interannual and multi-decadal oscillation related to the EP-and CP-ENSO,*** there are no changes in external forcing in the pre-industrial control runs,such a result implies that the decadal oscillation of CP-ENSO is possibly a result of natural climate variability rather than external forcing.

More Large Sets of Resolvable MTS and DTS with Even Orders

In this paper, we first introduce a special structure that allows us to construct a large set of resolvable Mendelsohn triple systems of orders 2q ＋ 2, or LRMTS（2q ＋ 2）, where q = 6t ＋ 5 is a prime power. Using a computer, we find examples of such structure for t C T = {0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24}. Furthermore, by a method we introduced in [13], large set of resolvable directed triple systems with the same orders are obtained too. Finally, by the tripling construction and product construction for LRMTS and LRDTS introduced in [2, 20, 21], and by the new results for LR-design in [8], we obtain the existence for LRMTS（v）and LRDTS（v）, where v = 12（t ＋ 1） mi≥0（2.7mi＋1）mi≥0（2.13ni＋1）and t∈T,which provides more infinite family for LRMTS and LRDTS of even orders.

Electrochemical reduction of nitrogen to ammonia under mild conditions provides an intriguing approach for energy conversion. A grand challenge for electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (NRR) is to design a superior electrocatalyst to obtain high performance including high catalytic activity and selectivity. In the NRR process, the three most important steps are nitrogen adsorption, nitrogen activation, and ammonia desorption. We take MoS_(2) as the research object and obtain catalysts with different electronic densities of states through the doping of Fe and V, respectively. Using a combination of experiments and theoretical calculations, it is demonstrated that V-doped MoS_(2) (MoS_(2)-V) shows better nitrogen adsorption and activation, while Fe-doped MoS_(2) (MoS_(2)-Fe) obtains the highest ammonia yield in experiments (20.11 µg·h^(−1)·mg^(−1)cat.) due to its easier desorption of ammonia. Therefore, an appropriate balance between nitrogen adsorption, nitrogen activation, and ammonia desorption should be achieved to obtain highly efficient NRR electrocatalysts.

Modulation of Si-O bonds under mild conditions has been a challenging issue in the field of material science,which is critical to manufacture highperformance silica-based optical and photonic ***,we introduce a nondestructive technique to achieve Si-O bond rearrangement,leading to plastic deformation and photoluminescence enhancement of amorphous silica nanoparticles using supercritical carbon dioxides in EtOH/H_(2)O solution under mild ***,plastic deformation is achieved by treating hollow mesoporous silica nanospheres using supercritical CO_(2)at 40°C under 20 *** and theoretical studies revealed the critical role of supercritical CO_(2)in the plastic deformation process,which can be intercalated into the hollow mesoporous silica nanospheres with anisotropic stresses and induces the rearrangement of Si-O bonds and transformation of ring *** work suggests a novel approach to engineer high-performance nano-silica glass components for numerous optical and photonic devices under mild condition.

Reactive Sputter Deposition of Carbon Nitride Films by Using Hollow-Cathode Discharge

3D analysis for pit evolution and pit-to-crack transition during corrosion fatigue

This paper presents a deterministic model to predict the pit evolving morphology and crack initiation life of corrosion *** on the semi-ellipsoidal pit assumption,the thermodynamic potential including elastic energy,surface energy and electrochemical energy of the cyclically stressed solid with an evolving pit is established,from which specific parameters that control the pit evolution are introduced and their influence on the pit evolution are *** critical pit size for crack nucleation is obtained from stress intensity factor criterion and the crack nucleation life is evaluated by Faraday's ***,this paper presents a numerical example to verify the proposed model and investigate the influence of cyclic load on the corrosion fatigue crack nucleation *** corrosion pit appears approximately as a hemisphere in its early formation,and it gradually transits from semicircle to *** strain energy accelerates the morphology evolution of the pit,while the surface energy decelerates *** higher the stress amplitude is,the smaller the critical pit size is and the shorter the crack initiation life is.

Trimetallic mesoporous PdCuRu for efficient formate electrosynthesis from polyethylene terephthalate recycling

Electrochemical recycling of waste polyethylene terephthalate（PET） plastics represents a green and sustainable route to produce valuable fuels and address serious environmental issues. Despite some encouraged achievements, their progress is still slower because of the lack of highly active and selective electrocatalysts. Here, we reported an efficient PET recycling route with trimetallic PdCuRu mesoporous nanospheres（MSs） as a high-performance electrocatalyst that achieved selective electrosynthesis of valuable formate from PET hydrolysate（PETH） electrooxidation. Penetrated metal mesopores and trimetallic compositions of PdCuRu MSs synergistically optimized electronic structures of Pd sites and changed chemisorption properties of intermediates, which disclosed a high formate Faradic efficiency of 97% and impressive yield rate of 0.49 mmol h-1cm-2in an alkaline solution. Meanwhile, this electrocatalyst held good electrocatalytic stability, retaining high formate Faradic efficiency and yield rate even being performed for 10 cycles, which highlighted its potential applications for practical PET recycling. Our study provides a powerful strategy for designing high-performance electrocatalysts toward selective electro-synthesis of valuable fuels from various waste plastics.

Rational construction of a cellular memory inverter

Robust and reliable biological memory computing systems are lacking, although many biological computing systems are implemented. We successfully designed, constructed, and tested a cellular memory inverter in the bacterium Escherichia coli in a predictable way. We selected isopropyl-D-1-thiogalactopyranoside(IPTG) as the input and green fluorescent protein(GFP) as the output. We selected negative regulation of lac operon and excision function of Cre recombinase as computing tools. The GFP can express and produce output without IPTG. The input, IPTG, can induce the expression of Cre recombinase. The Cre recombinase can excise the GFP gene between site lox71 and site lox66, and hence turn off the output. We also selected ordinary differential equations(ODEs) to predict the dynamic behaviors for the precise design and implementation of the inverter. We used sodium dodecyl sulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(SDS-PAGE), colony Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR), and fluorescent quantitative analysis techniques to verify the function of our *** study provides a new biological memory computing system. The Cre recombinase functions used here should be useful in the construction of biological memory computing systems.
