Unidirectional solidification of pivalic acid （PVA）-ethanol （Eth） mixture was performed to examine whether an allowable range of primary dendrite spacing definitely exists at a given growth velocity and how the range is history-dependent. PVA-0.59 wt pct Eth was unidirectionally solidified in the range of growth velocity 0.5-64 μm/s at the temperature gradient of 2.3 K/ram. Sequential change in growth velocity was imposed to determine the upper and lower limits for the allowable range of stable spacing. An allowable range of the steady state primary spacing was observed at a given growth velocity, and the extent of the range seems to be dependent on the degree to which step-increase or step-decrease in growth velocity is accomplished. As the degree of sequential change in growth velocity increases, the history-dependence of the selection for the primary dendrite spacing tends to disappear.

Separation of primary Si phase and removal of boron in the primary Si phase during the solidification process of the Al-30%Si-10%Sn melt under a traveling magnetic field(TMF) were investigated. The results showed that the agglomeration layer of the primary Si can be formed in the periphery of the ingot while the inner microstructures mainly consist of the eutectic α-Al+Si and β-Sn phases. The intense melt flow carries the bulk liquid with higher Si content to promote the growth of the primary Si phase which is first precipitated close to the inner wall of crucible with a relatively lower temperature, resulting in the remarkable segregation of the primary Si phase. The content of impurity B in the primary Si phase can be removed effectively with an increase in magnetic flux intensity. The results of electron probe microanalysis(EPMA) clearly indicated that the average intensity of the B Ka line in the α-Al phase region of Al-Si-Sn alloy is higher in the case of solidification under TMF than that of normal solidification condition, suggesting that the electromagnetic stirring can promote the B removal from the primary Si phase.

AIM： To investigate the role of endogenous γ-aminobutyric acid （GABA） in pancreatic exocrine secretion. METHODS： The isolated, vascularly perfused rat pancreas was employed in this study to eliminate the possible influences of extrinsic nerves and hormones. Cholecystokinin （CCK; 10 pmol/L） was intra-arterially given to stimulate exocrine secretion of the pancreas. RESULTS： Glutamine, a major precursor of GABA, which was given intra-arterially at concentrations of 1, 4 and 10 mmol/L, dose-dependently elevated the CCK-stimulated secretions of fluid and amylase in the normal pancreas. Bicuculline （10 μmol/L）, a GABAA receptor antagonist, blocked the enhancing effect of glutamine （4 mmol/L） on the CCK-stimulated exocrine secretions. Glutamine, at concentrations of 1, 4 and 10 mmol/L, dose-dependently increased the GABA concentration in portal effluent of the normal pancreas. The effects of glutamine on the CCK-stimulated exocrine secretion as well as the GABA secretion were markedly reduced in the streptozotocintreated pancreas. CONCLUSION： GABA could be secreted from β-cells into the isletoacinar portal system after administration of glutainine, and could enhance the CCK-stimulated exocrine secretion through GABAA receptors. Thus, GABA in islet β-cells is a hormone modulating pancreatic exocrine secretion.

BACKGROUND Accessory soleus muscle(ASM)is a rare congenital variation that is almost asymptomatic,but several papers have recently described symptomatic *** clinical features of this condition are similar to tarsal tunnel syndrome(TTS)and include pain and numbness around the medial side of the *** commonly originates from the fibula or soleus muscle and inserts into the Achilles tendon or ***,it is identified as posteromedial swelling and definitely diagnosed by magnetic resonance *** most cases,treatment is observation,but surgical excision can be considered if symptoms are *** SUMMARY A 23-year-old male Korean soldier presented with complaints of bilateral foot and ankle pain and a swelling medial to the Achilles tendon that was more pronounced on the right *** first occurred after playing soccer 10 mo before this presentation,worsened after physical exertion,and were relieved by *** had no medical history,and no one in his family had the *** results were *** tests were performed to exclude common diseases such as tumors or ***,MRI revealed a bulky accessory soleus muscle in both feet,though the patient complained of more severe pain on the right side during physical ***,surgical resection was *** surgery,a large accessory soleus muscle was noted anterior to the Achilles tendon with distinctive insertion from a normal soleus *** 12 mo after surgery,there was no pain,numbness,or swelling of the right foot or ankle,no evidence of recurrence,and the patient could do all sports *** Accessory soleus muscle should be added to the list of differential diagnosis if a patient has pain,sole numbness or swelling of the posteromedial ankle.

Objective:To study the effect of Liuwei Dihuang Decoction(六味地黄汤)or Yukmijihwangtang(YJT)on endurance exercise by in vivo ***:ICR mice were randomly divided into the control group(distilled water)and the YJT groups(1,10,100 mg/kg),5 animals per *** and distilled water were orally *** anti-fatigue effect of YJT was evaluated by open fifiled test(OFT),forced swimming test(FST),and tail suspension test(TST).Results:In the OFT,YJT signifificantly increased the total movement distance in a dose-dependent ***,treatment with YJT signifificantly decreased immobility time in the FST and the *** neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine(NE),serotonin(5-HT),dopamine(DA)levels were increased by *** of YJT down-regulated the expression levels of NE,5-HT,5-hydroxyindole-acetic acid(5-HIAA),and DA in the brain stem and hypothalamus of ***,protein expression of HSP70 in mice liver and heart muscles was signifificantly increased in the YJT ***:YJT could ameliorate fatigue and enhance exercise tolerance through suppressing of brain monoamines including NE,5-HT,5-HIAA,and DA in FST mice model.

As a part of the Multinational Genome Sequencing Project of Brassica rapa, linkage group R9 and R3 were sequenced using a bacterial artificial chromosome （BAC） by BAC strategy. The current physical contigs are expected to cover approximately 90% euchromatins of both chromosomes. As the project progresses, BAC selection for sequence extension becomes more limited because BAC libraries are restriction enzyme-specific. To support the project, a random sheared fosmid library was constructed. The library consists of 97536 clones with average insert size of approximately 40 kb corresponding to seven genome equivalents, assuming a Chinese cabbage genome size of 550 Mb. The library was screened with primers designed at the end of sequences of nine points of scaffold gaps where BAC clones cannot be selected to extend the physical contigs. The selected positive clones were end-sequenced to check the overlap between the fosmid clones and the adjacent BAC clones. Nine fosmid clones were selected and fully sequenced. The sequences revealed two completed gap filling and seven sequence extensions, which can be used for further selection of BAC clones confirming that the fosmid library will facilitate the sequence completion of B. rapa.
