Banded Iron Formations (BIFs) were formed by contemporaneous events of active sediments supply and the venting of a hydrothermal fluid source at the Mid-Ocean-Ridge. BIFs within the Ntem Complex at the northern edge of the Congo Craton are intercalated with metasandstones and siltstones. sHRIMP U-Pb analysis on detrital zircons obtained from these metasediments gave variable ages from over 3000 Ma to 1000 Ma with the maximum age of deposition clustered around 1200 Ma and the peak of deposition at 1800 Ma. This age range suggested that the sub-basin was opened sometime in the Archean and remained active up till the Neoproterozoic. Zircons with Archean ages have a provenance linked to the charnockitic suite and the high-K granites within the Ntem Complex. The Paleoproterozoic ages are attributed to clastic inputs from the neigbouring Nyong series west of the Ntem Complex. Also the peak of deposition in the Proterozoic could probably be explained by the globally recognized intense crust-forming processes in the Early Proterozoic time. The provenance of the younger Neoproterozoic ages is tied to various lithologies within the northern mobile belts of the Adamawa-Yade massifs and correlates with Neoproterozoic sedimentation ages in the Yaoundé, Lom and Poli series. The Neoproterozoic ages obtained are comparable to those obtained from metasediments of the Amazonian Craton and provide evidence of Pre-Gondwana assemblage of the Congo and the s?o Francisco Cratons.

Comparison study of Funduscopic Exam of Pediatric Patients Using the D-EYE Method and Conventional Indirect Ophthalmoscopic Methods

Purpose: The D-EYE device, a new fundoscopic smartphone lens, has demonstrated its utility in a clinical setting to detect and document ocular pathology, but has not been tested in the pediatric population. A prospective study was performed to explore the application of D-EYE in pediatric fundus examinations. Methods: Patients ages 3 - 18 years old underwent dilated fundus examinations by masked examiners using the video function of the D-EYE, while indirect ophthalmoscopy was performed by apediatric ophthalmologist. The examiners independently analyzed the D-EYE videos for the presence or absence of abnormalities, cup-to-disc (c/d) ratios and optic nerve size and color. The D-EYE video findings were compared to indirect ophthalmoscopy findings. Results: The study included 172 eyes from 87 patients. In comparing D-EYE to indirect ophthalmoscopy for detecting fundus abnormalities, the sensitivity was 0.72, specificity was 0.97, positive predictive value (PPV) was 0.77, negative predictive value (NPV) was 0.97, positive likelihood ratio (LR) was 27.8, and negative LR was 0.29. The agreement rate between the D-EYE video graders for the c/d ratio within a value of 0.1 was 97.0%. Multiple, distinct abnormalities were discovered using the D-EYE device, including nystagmus, optic nerve hypoplasia, optic disc edema, peripapillary atrophy, disc pallor, and optic disc drusen. Conclusion: Fundoscopic imaging using the D-EYE smartphone lens reliably detects the presence of fundus abnormalities and has good reliability in assessing c/d ratios. The video capability is useful in patients with nystagmus or those who are poorly compliant with the examination and allowed for effective teaching by the pediatric ophthalmologist.

360 video streaming services over the network are becoming popular. In particular, it is easy to experience 360 video through the already popular smartphone. However, due to the nature of 360 video, it is difficult to provide stable streaming service in general network environment because the size of data to send is larger than that of conventional video. Also, the real user's viewing area is very small compared to the sending amount. In this paper, we propose a system that can provide high quality 360 video streaming services to the users more efficiently in the cloud. In particular, we propose a streaming system focused on using a head mount display (HMD).

We report on a case of unilateral and diffuse xanthogranulomatous pyelonephritis (XGP) associated with Crohn’s disease and primary hyperparathyroidism (HPT). The patient had undiagnosed primary HPT for at least a year prior to presentation. The co-existence of Crohn’s disease and primary HPT caused calcium oxalate stone likely by the known mechanism of hypercalcemia and hyperoxaluria respectively. The patient developed XGP, a rare disease, as a result of infected calcium oxalate stone which was treated with antibiotics and unilateral nephrectomy. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of XGP associated with Crohn’s disease and primary HPT.

Wall boiling and bubble population balance equations combined with a two-fluid model are employed to predict boiling two-phase flow in an inclined channel with downward- facing heated wall. For vertical flow, these models have been highlighted by the mechanistic formulation of bubble nucleation on a vertical heated wall by the bubble sliding and lift-off formulations. For downward-facing heated wall in an inclined channel, however, the bubble nucleation and departure behaviors are affected by the large bubbles near the heated wall as vapor accumulates near the upper wall of the inclined channel. In order to observe the boiling behavior on the inclined, downward-facing heated wall, a visualization experiment was carried out with a 100 mm x 100 mm of the cross section, one meter long rectangular channel, inclined by 10 o from the horizontal plane. The size of the heated wall was 50 mm by 750 mm and the heat flux was provided by the Joule heating of the heated wall using the DC electrical current. High speed video images showed the bubble nucleation and growth, sweeping of these bubbles by a large bubble sliding near the wall. For these circumstances of wall boiling and two-phase flow in the inclined channel, the existing wall boiling model encompassing bubble growth and sliding were modified by considering the influence of large bubbles near the heated wall. Using the model developed, boiling two-phase flow in a 3 m long, inclined channel with downward-facing heated wall was analyzed.

Geochemical and geochronological studies have been carry out on the leucosomes of Yaoundé series with the aims to identify the magma sources and to indicate their production periods and emplacement within the formations of the Pan-African North-Equatorial Fold Belt (PANEFB) in Cameroon. The Yaoundé series belongs to the southern domain of the PANEFB and it is composed of migmatites in which two types of granitic leucosomes (in situ leucosomes and injected leucosomes) have been distinguished. These rocks display characteristic of calc-alkaline (in situ leucosomes) and high-K calc-alkaline to shoshonitic series (injected leucosomes). All the rocks are peraluminous with in situ leucosomes conform to s-type and injected leucosomes conform to I- and s-type granitoids. Major and trace elements composition reveal that in situ leucosomes derived from the partial melting of the host metapelite whereas injected leucosomes derived from the melting of metagreywacke. These sources are similar to those of granitoids from central and northern domains of the PANEFB. Th-U-Pb dating by electron microprobe (EMP) and LA-ICP-Ms U-Pb dating on zircon have been used to constraints the melting event and emplacement of leucosomes in Yaoundé series. Th-U-Pb monazite dating, undertaken in two samples of leucosomes, gives two groups of monazite ages. The older group gives an age of 658 Ma whereas the age of younger group is 592 Ma. U-Pb dating of zircons from the leucosomes reveals a Pan-African age ranging from 626 to 654 Ma whereas zircons from metapelitic host rock reveal the overprinting of an early Pan-African event 911 - 1127 Ma on Palaeoproterozoic (2127 Ma) inheritance. These data clearly indicate that the host rocks of leucosomes of Yaoundé series have been firstly metamorphosed during Tonien-stenien period (911 - 1127 Ma) and reveal the existence of extended unique melting event (592 and 658 Ma) in the Yaoundé series which is contemporaneous with the magmatism responsible for the emp
