Estimates of voluntary activation in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction:Effects of type of stimulator,number of stimuli,and quantification technique

Background:Accurate quantification of voluntary activation is important for understanding the extent of quadriceps dysfunction in individuals with anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction(ACLr).Voluntary activation has been quantified using both percent activation derived from the interpolated twitch technique and central activation ratio(CAr)derived from the burst superimposition technique,as well as by using different types of electrical stimulators and pulse train ***,it is unclear how these parameters affect voluntary activation estimates in individuals with *** study was performed to fill this important knowledge gap in the anterior cruciate ligament ***:Quadriceps strength and voluntary activation were examined in 18 ACLr participants(12 quadriceps/patellartendon graft,6 hamstring tendon graft;time since ACLr:1.06±0.82 years,mean±SD)at 90°of knee flexion using 2 stimulators(Digitimer and Grass)and pulse train conditions(3-pulse and 10-pulse).Voluntary activation was quantified by calculating both CAr and percent ***:results indicated that voluntary activation was significantly overestimated by CAr when compared with percent activation(pry activation estimates were not affected by pulse train conditions when using percent activation;however,3-pulse stimuli resulted in greater overestimation than 10-pulse stimuli when using CAr(p=0.003).Voluntary activation did not differ between stimulators(p>0.05);however,the Digitimer evoked greater torque at rest than the Grass(presults indicate that percent activation derived from the interpolated twitch technique provides superior estimates of voluntary activation than CAr derived from burst superimposition and is less affected by pulse train conditions or stimulators in individuals with ACLr.

Oxidative dissolution of Cr(OH)_(3) and mixed Fe-Cr(Ⅲ)phases by aqueous Mn(Ⅲ)-pyrophosphate complex

The key role of manganese(Mn)in the biogeochemical cycle of trace elements has been of great interest in recent ***,the redox properties of aqueous Mn(Ⅲ)have been studied to a lesser ***(Ⅲ)is not stable in solution by ***,when complexed with inorganic ligands,it has shown potential to oxidize and reduce trace *** the present study,we are exploring the redox characteristics of the complex Mn(Ⅲ)-Pyrophosphate(Mn(Ⅲ)-PP).This complex is stable over a wide range of pH values but requires the ratio of Mn:PP to be less than 1:***,the redox reaction of chromium(Cr(Ⅲ))and Mn(Ⅲ)-PP is investigated.A solid,Cr(OH)_(3),is used as a source of Cr(Ⅲ).For this reaction,environmentally relevant parameters,such as pH,ionic strength,ratio Mn(Ⅲ)/Cr(Ⅲ),and excess of ligand,were *** showed that Mn(Ⅲ)can effectively oxidize Cr(Ⅲ)to Cr(Ⅵ),taking about 15 days for the reaction to *** reaction occurs only under acidic conditions(pH4),and with a low excess of *** initial Mn(Ⅲ)concentration decreases as the Cr(Ⅵ)is produced,and Cr(Ⅵ)can be adsorbed back into the Cr(OH)_(3)surface,limiting the mobility of this toxic *** this adsorption,significant amounts of Cr(VI)are release in the aqueous *** study shows the importance of a mobile species(Mn-PP complex)in the oxidation of Cr(Ⅲ)and the release of Cr(Ⅵ)to the environment.

Visual analytics tool for the interpretation of hidden states in recurrent neural networks

In this paper,we introduce a visual analytics approach aimed at helping machine learning experts analyze the hidden states of layers in recurrent neural *** technique allows the user to interactively inspect how hidden states store and process information throughout the feeding of an input sequence into the *** technique can help answer questions,such as which parts of the input data have a higher impact on the prediction and how the model correlates each hidden state configuration with a certain *** visual analytics approach comprises several components:First,our input visualization shows the input sequence and how it relates to the output(using color coding).In addition,hidden states are visualized through a nonlinear projection into a 2-D visualization space using t-distributed stochastic neighbor embedding to understand the shape of the space of the hidden *** are also employed to show the details of the evolution of the hidden state ***,a time-multi-class heatmap matrix visualizes the evolution of the expected predictions for multi-class classifiers,and a histogram indicates the distances between the hidden states within the original *** different visualizations are shown simultaneously in multiple views and support brushing-and-linking to facilitate the analysis of the classifications and debugging for misclassified input *** demonstrate the capability of our approach,we discuss two typical use cases for long short-term memory models applied to two widely used natural language processing datasets.

Optimal heat release shaping in a reactivity controlled compression ignition （rCCI） engine

The present paper addresses the optimal heat release （Hr） law in a single cylinder engine operated under reactivity controlled compression ignition （rCCl） combustion mode to minimise the indicated specific fuel consumption （ISFC） subject to different constraints including pressure related limits （maximum cylinder pressure and maximum cylinder pressure gradient）. With this aim, a 0-dimensional （OD） engine combustion model has been identified with experimental data. Then, the optimal control problem of minimising the ISFC of the engine at different operating conditions of the engine operating map has been stated and analytically solved. To evaluate the method viability a data-driven model is developed to obtain the control actions （gasoline fraction） leading to the calculated optimal Hr, more precisely to the optimal ratio between premixed and diffusive combustion. The experimental results obtained with such controls and the differences with the optimal Hr are finally explained and discussed.

Thermodynamic modelling of unloaded and loaded N,N-diethylethanolamine solutions

Chemical absorption is a crucial step for several chemical processes such as ammonia production, coal gasification, methane reforming,ethylene oxide manufacturing and treatment of associated gas streams [1]. It is considered one of the main processes to eliminate CO_2 emissions from power plants by *** of new solvents are of high interest in chemical absorption for carbon capture. For the design of the absorption and desorption columns it is essential to know the vapour-liquid equilibrium(VLE), heat of absorption and densities. N,N-diethylethanolamine(DEEA) appeared as one of the amines with the lowest amount of energy needed for its regeneration [2], which would directly decrease the operation costs. DEEA has a high CO_2 loading of 1 mol/mol of amine compared to the traditional MEA solvent(0.5 mol/mol amine) and is obtained from renewable sources[1]. The main weakness is its low absorption rate and consequently the use of promoters is *** this work, a thermodynamic model based on the electrolyte non-random two-liquid theory(eNrTL) was created and fitted to correlate and predict the partial and total pressures of the unloaded and loaded aqueous DEEA solutions. New interaction parameters were obtained for the binary and tertiary system. This model represents the vapour pressures of the pure components, DEEA and H_2 O, with AArD of 1.9% and 1.73%respectively. Furthermore, the fitted model predicts the total pressure above the binary system, H_2O-DEEA, with AArD of 0.05%. The excess of enthalpy and densities are predicted with AArD of 5.63% and 1.38% respectively. The tertiary system, H_2O-DEEA-CO_2, is fitted for 2 M and5 M DEEA solutions with loading between 0.042 and 0.9 mol CO_2/mol amine up to 80 ℃. results of CO_2 partial pressures and total pressures are reproduced, with AArD of 19.45% and 16.18% respectively. Densities are predicted with an AArD of 1.52%.

Stable two-sided matching of slot allocation in airport collaborative decision making by top trading cycles mechanism

The problem of capacity shortage in some airports needs to be dealt with sustainable solutions including a more efficient use of the existing runway slots at the airports. The Collaborative Decision Making（CDM） is an important approach applied to Air Traffic Management（ATM）to achieve this efficient use of the slots allocation. Using the Matching approach for two-sided markets of Game theory, the Top Trading Cycle CDM（TTC-CDM） algorithm developed in this research is an extension of the CDM approach aggregating the Ground Delay Program（GDP）of the air sector. The paper compared the developed TTC-CDM model to the existing models such as the conventional Compression algorithm in CDM, the Trade Cycle algorithm and the Deferred Acceptance CDM（DA-CDM） model to evaluate the performance of the proposed model. Through a case study, the results show the effective application of TTC-CDM model to slot allocation in ATM and also presents the advantage of considering the preferences of airport managers beside ATC controllers and airlines in the decision processing.
