Major and trace element as well as Sr-Nd isotopic compositions of mid-Cretaceous lavas across western Shandong province,china have been *** lavas can be generally divided into southern Shandong group(including pingyi and Mengyin) and northern Shandong group(including Laiwu and Zouping) based on their *** southern group lavas are characterized by extreme enrichment in LREE,large ion lithophile elements(LILE),and depletion in HFSE along with EMII-like Sr-Nd isotopic compositions,suggesting that the crustal involvements play a significant role in their *** studies with Fangcheng basalts reveal that the Triassic continent-continent collision between the Yangtze craton(YC) and the North china craton(NCC),and subsequent extensive modification of the sub-continental lithospheric mantle(SCLM) beneath the south part of the NCC by silicic melts released from the subducted Yangtze lower crust,formed an enriched lithospheric mantle which was the source of the southern Shandong group *** contrast,the northern Shandong group lavas are mildly enriched in LREE and LILE relative to those of the southern group *** isotope compositions are also distinctive in that the Sr isotopic ratios are very *** geochemical evidence and comparing studies with spatially closed related mafic intrusions suggest that the SCLM feeding the northern group lavas seems to be linked to carbonatitic metasomatism and changed modal proportion of phlogopite and clinopyroxene in the mantle rather than subduction-related *** contrasting geochemical characters of the mid-Cretaceous lavas across western Shangdong suggest that the SCLM of the NCC is spatially heterogeneous in Mesozoic.

Characteristics and geological significance of olivine xenocrysts in Cenozoic volcanic rocks from western Qinling

Cenozoic volcanic rocks from the Haoti, Dangchang County of the western Qinling Mountains, contain a few clearly-zoned olivines. These olivines are relatively big in grain sizes and usually have cracks or broken features. Their cores have similar compositions （Mg#=90.4-91.0） to those for the peridotitic xenoliths entrained in host volcanic rocks and their rims are close to the compositions of olivine phenocrysts （Mg#=85.5-81.9）. The Cao contents in these zoned olivines are lower than 0.1%. These features demonstrate that the clearly-zoned olivines are xenocrysts and disaggregated from mantle peridotites. The zoned texture was the result of the interaction between the olivine and host magma. Available data show that the volcanic rocks would have been derived from the mantle source metasomatized by subducted hydrathermally-altered oceanic crust. The formation of these Cenozoic volcanic rocks was perhaps related to the rapid uplift of the Tibetan plateau.

Mesozoic volcanic rocks are widespread throughout the Great Xing’an Range,NE ***,precise data constraining the exact eruption ages are limited,especially for those from the southern Great Xing’an Range,which severely hampers our understanding of the petrogenesis and geodynamics of these *** this paper,we report precise in situ LA-ICpMS zircon U-pb age measurements for these volcanic *** rocks in the southern Great Xing’an Range were divided into four units from bottom to top,namely,the Manketouebo,Manitu,Baiyingaolao and Meiletu *** previous studies suggested that these volcanic rocks were mainly formed in the Late *** data demonstrate that the Manketouebo formation erupted during Late Jurassic to Early Cretaceous time,whereas the other formations are all of Cretaceous *** southern Great Xing’an Range age dataset,along with recently obtained precise ages for volcanic rocks from the northern Great Xing’an Range indicate that Mesozoic volcanism throughout the Great Xing’an Range commenced in Late Jurassic,but peaked during the Cretaceous. They formed under an extensional tectonic setting which resulted from closure of the Mongol-okhotsk ocean and subsequent orogenic *** globally elevated mantle temperature in Cretaceous may provided thermal contributions to the generation of the volcanisms.

Laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry zircon U-pb dating and geochemical data document the Early Devonian Sandaogou alkaline complex(409 Ma)from the northern margin of the North china *** rock suite includes pyroxene syenite,quartz syenite and *** rocks exhibit high contents of Ko(5-13 wt%),strong enrichments in large ion lithophile elements and light REE, slightly negative Eu anomalies,and pronounced depletions in high field strength *** are characterized by moderate Sr/Sr ratios of 0.7052-0.7071,lowε(t)values of-12.7 to-17.9 and zirconε(t)values from-27.8 *** geochemical features and quantitative isotopic modelling suggest that they might have been formed through simultaneous fractional crystallization and lower crustal assimilation of a metasomatized mantle-derived alkali basaltic *** trachytic rocks,together with the Middle Devonian alkaline rocks and mafic-ultramafic complex from neighbouring regions,constitute a linear post-collisional magmatic belt along the northern North china craton,possibly formed under a tectonic regime of slab *** serve not only as a magmatic milestone for marking the termination of Early palaeozoic orogenic cycle around the northern North china craton,but also as a spatial tracer for locating the position of the potential ancient slab breakoff at the surface.

Iron isotopes,together with mineral elemental compositions of spinel peridotite xenoliths and clino-pyroxenites from Hannuoba and Hebi Cenozoic alkaline basalts,were analyzed to investigate iron isotopic features of the lithospheric mantle beneath the North china Craton. The results show that the Hannuoba spinel peridotite xenoliths have small but distinguishable Fe isotopic variations. overall variations inδFe are in a range of-0.25 to 0.14%o for olivine,-0.17 to 0.17‰for orthopyroxene, -0.21 to 0.27‰for clinopyroxene,and-0.16 to 0.26‰for spinel,*** has the heaviest iron isotopic ratio and olivine the lightest within individual *** clear linear relationships between the mineral pairs on"δ-δ"plot suggest that iron isotopes of mineral separates analyzed have been affected largely by some open system *** broadly negative correlations between mineral iron isotopes and metasomatic indexes such as spinel Cr#,(La/Yb) ratios of clinopyroxenes suggest that iron isotopic variations in different minerals and peridotites were probably produced by mantle metasomatism. The Hebi phlogopite-bearing lherzolite,which is significantly modified by metasomatic events,appears to be much heavier isotopically than clinopyroxene-poor lherzolite. This study further confirms previous conclusions that the lithospheric mantle has distinguishable and heterogeneous iron isotopic variations at the xenoliths scale. Mantle metasomatism is the most likely cause for the iron isotope variations in mantle peridotites.

precise age dating and systematic geochemical investigation were performed on the widely distributed late Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the North Great Xing’an Range (NGXR).In situ zircon U-pb age measurements indicate that the volcanic eruption commenced from 163 Ma ago and lasted to 113 Ma *** volcanic rocks show a wide range in compositions from basaltic andesite, trachyandesite and trachydacite to *** majority of volcanic rocks exhibit high-K calc-alkaline affinity with the subordinate showing shoshonitic *** volcanic rocks are characterized with low Mgo contents,LILE, LREE enrichment and HFSE *** and isotopic variations suggest that fractional crystallization with the predominant removal of olivine and orthopyroxene play an important role in the evolution of *** of the basic and intermediate volcanic rocks are generated from an enriched lithospheric mantle which was metaso matised by fluids released from subducted slabs during the closure of the paleo-Asian and Mongol-okhotsk oceans. The generation of such widely distributed volcanic rocks was caused by the decompressional partial melting of enriched lithospheric mantle in an extensional regime, which resulted from the gravitational collapse and upwelling of asthenosphere after the final closure of the Mongol-okhotsk oceans in late Jurassic and from then the Mongol-okhotsk orogen turned into the post-orogenic stage.

Late Mesozoic volcanism is widespread throughout northeastern china,mainly clustering in the Great Xinggan Range,where the major period of volcanic eruption was during the Early *** spatial distribution of volcanic rocks shows a NNE-extending *** lithology of Mesozoic basaltic rocks in the Great Xinggan Range ranges from trachytic basalts,basalts to basaltic *** the basis of lithological associations and spatial relationships,we divide the basalts into four groups,***,Genhe,Zalute and *** Early Cretaceous volcanism in the Great Xinggan Range is characterized by significant large ion lithophile elements(LILE) and light rare earth elements(LREE) enrichment and high field strength elements(HFSE) depletion,with a slightly enriched to depleted Nd-Hf and weakly enriched Sr isotopic compositions(initial Sr/Sr=0.7046-0.7079,ε(t)=+3,6 to - 6.9 andε(t)=+3.9 to -4.6).The pb isotopic compositions are also variable with pb/pb,pb/pb and pb/pb values of 17.791-18.530,15.477-15.597 and 37.761-38.497,*** Sr-Nd-pb-Hf isotopic data indicate that the rnagmatic sources are heterogeneous,showing an enriched to depleted signature of continental lithospheric *** rnagmatic sources of the Genhe and Zalute groups are characterized by mixing among pM,EM II and DM,whereas the Tahe and Xiwu groups derive from enriched lithospheric mantle that had experienced metasomatism by fluids or melts from subducted paleo-Asian and Mongol-okhotsk ocean slabs and possible influence of precambrian *** Late Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the Great Xinggan Range resemble those of the Cenozoic calc-alkaline magmatism in the Basin and Range province of the United *** therefore suggest that the widespread Mesozoic volcanic rocks in the Great Xinggan Range were generated in an extensional tectonic setting.

In situ zircon U-pb ages and Hf isotopic compositions and whole rock geochemical and Sr-Nd-pb isotopic data are presented for the Zijinshan alkaline intrusive complex from the Shanxi province,western North china *** rocks dominate the complex with the monzonite occurring in the outermost and pseudoleucite phonolitic breccia in the *** intrusion took place 127 Ma ago with the earliest emplacement of monzonite and the termination of cryptoexplosive pseudoleucite phonolitic *** rocks from this complex show LREE enrichment and HFSE depletion and exhibit enriched to depleted Sr-Nd isotopic *** presence of inherited zircons and enriched Hf isotopic compositions in zircon rims,along with the enriched whole rock Sr-Nd isotopic compositions,indicate that the monzonite was formed through the mixing of lithospheric mantle-derived magma with lower crustderived *** diopside syenite and nepheline-bearing diopside syenite are more depleted than the monzonite in terms of the Sr and Nd isotopes,together with their very high concentrations of LILE,we proposed that they originated from a mixed mantle source of enriched lithospheric mantle and depleted *** nepheline syenite has very low concentrations of Mgo,Ni,Cr, suggesting that the magma underwent significant crystal *** most depleted Sr and Nd isotopic compositions ((Sr/Sr)=0.7036-0.7042,ε(t)=-0.2-0.3) among all rock types indicate a great contribution of asthenosphere to the nepheline *** Zijinshan complex and its related crust-mantle interaction occurred in an extensional environment which resulted in continuously asthenospheric *** an extensional environment might have been developed during the post-orogenic stage of the Late paleozoic amalgamation of North china Craton with Mongolian continents and subsequent Mongol-okhotsk ocean closure.

Concentrations of major,trace,and platinum-group element(pGE)compositions were determined for a suite of the Early palaeozoic(ca.465 Ma)Mengyin and Fuxian diamondiferous kimberlites from the eastern North china Craton to constrain the petrogenesis of these rocks and thus the mantle processes involved in their *** the chinese kimberlites are broadly similar to the kimberlites of South Africa(McDonald et al.,1995),there are significant compositional differences between the Mengyin and the Fuxian *** Mengyin kimberlites are more refractory(Mg#>87,Ni=1207-1786,Cr=1991- 4224)and more strongly enriched in LREE((La/Yb)=265-517),but have lower pd/Ir ratios(1.26- 2.08)than those of the Fuxian *** Mengyin kimberlites possess primitive,mantle-like Sr-Nd isotopic *** features suggest that the Mengyin kimberlites formed from a mixture of carbonated asthenosphere and lithospheric keel with a minor contribution from a previously subduction-dehydrated oceanic *** contrast,the Fuxian kimberlites are less refractory(Mg#=80-87,Ni=971-1411, Cr=1483-2285),less enriched in LREE((La/Yb)=45-173)and have higher pd/Ir ratios(1.59-4.24). Their lowerεNd values(εNd～-2.3)and large variations in Sr isotopic compositions suggest significant involvement of hydrothermally-altered and previously subduction-dehydrated oceanic ***, we consider that the formation of the two kimberlites was related to the previously dehydrated subduction of an oceanic slab beneath the North china Craton in the *** subduction of palaeo-Tethyan oceanic lithosphere in the south and/or subduction of the Mongolian ocean lithosphere in the north could have initiated the destabilization of the eastern North china *** released from the previously dehydrated subducted slab migrated and concentrated in regions of thermally perturbed asthenosphere and at the base of lithosphere keel,which in turn triggered the generation of kimberlitic magmas by a small degree o

Zircon U-pb and hornblende Ar/Ar dating document an Early permian emplacement time for the Hercynian Guyang batholith from the northern margin of the North china Craton(NCC),with a variety of lithologies including:gabbro-gabbroic diorite-leuconorite,diorite and granodiorite,microgranular magmatic enclaves(MME),mafic dyke and *** relations,petrological,elemental,whole-rock Sr-Nd and zircon Hf isotopic data show that(1) the gabbros and gabbroic diorites exhibit strong enrichment of large ion lithophile element(LILE) and lightrare earth element(LREE),depletion in high field strength element(HFSE), and have moderately enriched isotopic compositions with Sr/Sr ranging from 0.7050 to 0.7053,ε(t) from - 8.08 to - 10.2 and zirconε(t) from - 6.7 to - 12.0;while the leuconorites are characterized by low REE contents,conspicuous positive Eu anomaly and comparable Sr-Nd compositions to gabbroic *** features suggest that they may represent complementary products from a parental magma derived from a subduction-related metasomatized sub-continental lithospheric mantle(SCLM) source;(2) the monzogranites range from 74.3 to 75.6%Sio,with high Sr-Ba abundances and elevated Sr/Y and La/Yb *** high-silica adakitic affinity,plus their indistinguishable isotopic compositions from the mafic ones(Sr/ Sr = 0.7053 to 0.7055,ε(t) = - 10.5 to - 11.3,zirconε(t) = -8.5 to -11.8),indicates a felsic parental magma from partial melting of mixed protoliths composed of newly underplated mafic lower crustal and ancient mafic lower crustal materials;(3) the diorites and granodiorites contain abundant MME and display various scales of petrologic textures indicative of magma *** also have intermediate geochemical compositions between gabbroic diorite and *** with their evolved isotopic compositions(Sr/ Sr = 0.7050 to 0.7064,ε(t) = -8.36 to -13.9,zirconε(t) = - 7.9 to -15.5),they are inferred to be formed by mixing between SCLM-derived mafic magma and cru
