Surface acoustic wave(SAW) resonators with an ultrahigh Q-factor are designed and fabricated on silicon-based gallium nitride(GaN/Si). The temperature-dependent performance is characterized over a wide range, from 10 to 500 K. Finite element analysis is employed to guide the design of the SAW resonator from indications of the Rayleigh mode and weak propagation direction dependence of SAW in the c-plane of GaN/Si. The SAW resonator with 100 pairs of interdigital transducers(IDT), 100 pairs of grating reflectors(GR) for each side, aperture size of 80 μm, metallization ratio of 0.5, and electrode width of 500 nm resonates at 1.9133 GHz accordingly with an ultrahigh Q-factor of 7622 at room temperature, which contributes the fr× Qr, up to 14.583×1012Hz. A resonator operating over 10 to 500 K indicates an approximately linear decreasing temperature dependence above 280 K while being approximately constant below 40 K. The fitting to resonator characteristics using the modified Butterworth Van Dyke(m BVD) model reveals a reduction in both the electrode and mechanical losses while worsening the dielectric loss with cooling down.

Endogenous retroviruses (ERVs), the remnants of ancient retrovirus infections, constitute approximately 8% of the human genome and play important roles in human evolution, development,and diseases. Multiple drugs, such as DNA methyltransferase inhibitors and lysine-specific histone demethylase 1inhibitors, reactivate ERVs, induce viral mimicry and trigger innate immune responses to enhance tumor immunogenicity.

Biomolecular self-assembly based on peptides and proteins is a general phenomenon encountered in natural and synthetic systems.Liquid–liquid phase separation(LLPS)is intimately involved in biomolecular self-assembly,yet the key factors at a molecular scale activating or modulating such a process remain largely elusive.Herein,we discovered in our experiments that multistep desolvation is fundamental to the formation and evolution of peptide-rich droplets:The first step was partial desolvation of peptides to form peptide clusters,and the second step was selective desolvation of hydrophobic groups within clusters to trigger LLPS and the formation of peptiderich droplets,followed by complete desolvation of droplets,initiating the nucleation of peptide selfassembly.Manipulation of the degree of desolvation at different stages was an effective strategy to control the self-assembly pathways and polymorphisms.This study sheds light on the molecular origin of LLPS-mediated self-assembly distinct from classical one-step self-assembly and paves the way for the precise control of supramolecular self-assembly.

A power amplifier’s linearity determines the emission signal’s quality and the efficiency of the system.Nonlinear distortion can result in system bit error,out-of-band radiation,and interference with other channels,which severely influence communication system’s quality and reliability.Starting from the third-order intermodulation point of the milimeter wave(mm-Wave)power amplifiers,the circuit’s nonlinearity is compensated for.The analysis,design,and implementation of linear class AB mm-Wave power amplifiers based on GlobalFoundries 45 nm CMOS silicon-on-insulator(SOI)technology are presented.Three single-ended and differential stacked power amplifiers have been implemented based on cascode cells and triple cascode cells operating in U-band frequencies.According to nonlinear analysis and on-wafer measurements,designs based on triple cascode cells outperform those based on cascode cells.Using single-ended measurements,the differential power amplifier achieves a measured peak power-added efficiency(PAE)of 47.2%and a saturated output power(P_(sat))of 25.2 dBm at 44 GHz.The amplifier achieves a P_(sat)higher than 23 dBm and a maximum PAE higher than 25%in the measured bandwidth from 44 GHz to 50 GHz.

Viromes in marine ecosystems reveal remarkable invertebrate RNA virus diversity

Little is known about ocean viromes and the ecological drivers of the evolution of aquatic RNA viruses.This study employed a meta-transcriptomic approach to characterize the viromes of 58 marine invertebrate species across three seas.This revealed the presence of 315 newly identified RNA viruses in nine viral families or orders(Durnavirales,Totiviridae,Bunyavirales,Han-taviridae,Picornavirales,Flaviviridae,Hepelivirales,Solemoviridae,and Tombusviridae),with most of them being sufficiently divergent to the already documented viruses.Notably,this study revealed three marine invertebrate hantaviruses that are rooted to vertebrate hantaviruses,further supporting that hantaviruses may have a marine origin.We have also found evidence for possible host sharing and switch events during virus evolution.Overall,we have revealed the hidden diversity of marine invertebrate RNA viruses.

Aerosol particles suspended in a diluted gas with non-uniform temperature distribution are expected to experience a thermophoretic force.In theoretical treatment of thermophoresis,it is usually assumed that the particle temperature is equal to the surrounding gas temperature.However,this might not always be the case.In some particular applications,the particle temperature can significantly differ from the gas temperature.In the present paper,we theoretically investigate the effect of the particle tempera-ture on the thermophoresis of nanoparticles in the free molecule regime.Theoretical formulas for the thermophoretic force and thermophoretic velocity are obtained based on the gas kinetic theory.As exam-ples,a spherical Ag nanoparticle suspended in a dilute He gas is considered,and the Rudyak-Krasnolutski potential is employed to model the gas-particle interaction.It is found that the influence of the particle temperature on the thermophoresis of nanoparticles can be significant.With increasing particle size,the error due to the equal gas-particle temperature assumption can be neglected.

Reducing voltage hysteresis of metal oxide anodes to achieve high energy efficiency for Li-ion batteries

In the past two decades,a lot of high-capacity conversion-type metal oxides have been intensively studied as alternative anode materials for Li-ion batteries with higher energy density.Unfortunately,their large voltage hysteresis(0.8-1.2 V) within reversed conversion reactions results in huge round-trip inefficiencies and thus lower energy efficiency(50%-75%) in full cells than those with graphite anodes.This remains a long-term open question and has been the most serious drawback toward application of metal oxide anodes.Here we clarify the origins of voltage hysteresis in the typical SnO2anode and propose a universal strategy to minimize it.With the established in situ phosphating to generate metal phosphates during reversed conversion reactions in synergy with boosted reaction kinetics by the added P and Mo,the huge voltage hysteresis of 0.9 V in SnO_(2),SnO_(2)-Mo,and 0.6 V in SnO2-P anodes is minimized to 0.3 V in a ternary SnO_(2)-Mo-P(SOMP) composite,along with stable high capacity of 936 mA h g^(-1)after 800 cycles.The small voltage hysteresis can remain stable even the SOMP anode operated at high current rate of10 A g^(-1)and wide-range temperatures from 60 to 30℃,resulting in a high energy efficiency of88.5% in full cells.This effective strategy to minimize voltage hysteresis has also been demonstrated in Fe2O3,Co3O4-basded conversion-type anodes.This work provides important guidance to advance the high-capacity metal oxide anodes from laboratory to industrialization.

In the frame of fully nonlinear potential flow theory,series solutions of interfacial periodic gravity waves in a two-layer fluid with free surface are obtained by the homotopy analysis method(HAM),and the related wave forces on a vertical cylinder are analyzed.The solution procedure of the HAM for the interfacial wave model with rigid upper surface is further developed to consider the free surface boundary.And forces of nonlinear interfacial periodic waves are estimated by both the classical and modified Mori-son equations.It is found that the estimated wave forces by the classical Morison equation are more conservative than those by the modified Morison’s formula,and the relative error between the total inertial forces calculated by these two kinds of Morison’s formulae remains over 25%for most cases unless the upper and lower layer depths are both large enough.It demonstrates that the convective acceleration neglected in the classical Morison equation is rather important for inertial force exerted by not only internal solitary waves but also interfacial periodic waves.All of these should further deepen our understanding of internal periodic wave forces on a vertical marine riser.

The development of novel single-atom catalysts with optimal electron configuration and economical noble-metal cocatalyst for efficient photocatalytic hydrogen production is of great importance,but still challenging.Herein,we fabricate Pt and Co single-atom sites successively on polymeric carbon nitride(CN).In this Pt_(1)-Co_(1)/CN bimetallic single-atom catalyst,the noble-metal active sites are maximized,and the single-atomic Co_(1)N_4sites are tuned to Co_(1)N_3sites by photogenerated electrons arising from the introduced single-atomic Pt_(1)N_4sites.Mechanism studies and density functional theory(DFT)calculations reveal that the 3d orbitals of Co_(1)N_3single sites are filled with unpaired d-electrons,which lead to the improved visible-light response,carrier separation and charge migration for CN photocatalysts.Thereafter,the protons adsorption and activation are promoted.Taking this advantage of long-range electron synergy in bimetallic single atomic sites,the photocatalytic hydrogen evolution activity over Pt_(1)-Co_(1)/CN achieves 915.8 mmol g^(-1)Pt h^(-1),which is 19.8 times higher than Co_(1)/CN and 3.5 times higher to Pt_(1)/CN.While this electron-synergistic effect is not so efficient for Pt nanoclusters.These results demonstrate the synergistic effect at electron-level and provide electron-level guidance for the design of efficient photocatalysts.

Construction of SnS-Mo-graphene nanosheets composite for highly reversible and stable lithium/sodium storage

Sn-based chalcogenides are considered as one of the most promising anode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)because of their high capacities through both conversion and alloying reactions.However,the realization of full capacities of Sn-based chalcogenides is mainly hindered by the large volume variation and inferior reversibility of conversion reaction during cycling.In present work,a new ternary Sn SMo-graphene nanosheets(Sn S-Mo-GNs)composite is fabricated by a simple and scalable plasma milling method,in which Sn S nanoparticles are tightly bonded with Mo and GNs.The Mo and GNs additives can effectively alleviate the large volume change of Sn S upon cycling,which leads to a stable electrochemical framework.Moreover,they can significantly suppress the Sn agglomeration in lithiated Sn S,which enables highly reversible conversion reaction during cycling.As anode for LIBs,the Sn S-Mo-GNs composite exhibits a high initial coulombic efficiency of 86.9%(almost complete reversibility of Sn S,~97.3%),high cyclic coulombic efficiency after initial three cycles(>99.5%),and long lifespan(up to 600 cycles).Moreover,it also demonstrates superior electrochemical performance for sodium storage.Thus,this work demonstrates a potential anode for batteries application and provides a viable strategy to obtain highly reversible and stable anodes for lithium/sodium storage.
