What is the most favorite and original chemistry developed in your research group? Developments of alkali/alkaline earth amides, imides and hydrides for hydrogen storage and for catalytic ammonia synthesis are the most heart stirring scientific findings in our group. How do you get into this specific field? Could you please share some experiences with our readers? Accide ntal discovery and in tuition mean a lot to my academic career. It was an accidental observation that led me looking into hydrogen storage in Li3N;it was also an accidental finding that stimulated me to think of the potential of using hydrides as co-catalysts for ammonim synthesis and decomposition. Accidental discoveries, I believe, are the messages that the Nature conveys to us.

In this paper,an NMOS output-capacitorless low-dropout regulator(OCL-LDO)featuring dual-loop regulation has been proposed,achieving fast transient response with low power *** event-driven charge pump(CP)loop with the dynamic strength control(DSC),is proposed in this paper,which overcomes trade-offs inherent in conventional *** presented design addresses and resolves the large signal stability issue,which has been previously overlooked in the event-driven charge pump *** breakthrough allows for the full exploitation of the charge-pump structure's poten-tial,particularly in enhancing transient ***,a dynamic error amplifier is utilized to attain precise regulation of the steady-state output voltage,leading to favorable static characteristics.A prototype chip has been fabricated in 65 nm CMOS *** measurement results show that the proposed OCL-LDO achieves a 410 nA low quiescent current(IQ)and can recover within 30 ns under 200 mA/10 ns loading change.

Salt-inducible kinases(SIKs)belong to AMP-activated protein kinase(AMPK)family,and functions mainly involve in regulating energy response-related physiological processes,such as gluconeogenesis and lipid ***,compared with another well-established energy-response kinase AMPK,SIK roles in human diseases,especially in diabetes and tumorigenesis,are rarely ***,the pilot roles of SIKs in tumorigenesis have begun to attract more attention due to the finding that the tumor suppressor role of LKB1 in non-small-cell lung cancers(NSCLCs)is unexpectedly mediated by the SIK but not AMPK ***,here we tend to comprehensively summarize the emerging upstream regulators,downstream substrates,mouse models,clinical relevance,and candidate inhibitors for SIKs,and shed light on SIKs as the potential therapeutic targets for cancer therapies.

Mammalian target of rapamycin （mTOR） plays essen- tial roles in cell proliferation, survival and metabolism by forming at least two functional distinct multi-protein complexes, mTORC1 and mTORC2. External growth signals can be received and interpreted by mTORC2 and further transduced to mTORCI. On the other hand, mTORC1 can sense inner-cellular physiological cues such as amino acids and energy states and can indi- rectly suppress mTORC2 activity in part through phosphorylation of its upstream adaptors, IRS-1 or Grbl0, under insulin or IGF-1 stimulation conditions. To date, upstream signaling pathways governing mTORC1 activation have been studied extensively, while the mechanisms modulating mTORC2 activity remain largely elusive. We recently reported that Sin1, an essential mTORC2 subunit, was phosphorylated by either Akt or S6K in a cellular context-dependent manner. More importantly, phosphorylation of Sin1 at T86 and T398 led to a dissociation of Sin1 from the functional mTORC2 holo-enzyme, resulting in reduced Akt activity and sensitizing cells to various apoptotic challenges. Notably, an ovarian cancer patient-derived Sin1-R81T mutation abolished Sin1-T86 phosphoryla- tion by disrupting the canonical S6K-phoshorylation motif, thereby bypassing Sinl-phosphorylation-medi- ated suppression of mTORC2 and leading to sustained Akt signaling to promote tumorigenesis. Our work therefore provided physiological and pathological evi- dence to reveal the biological significance of Sin1 phosphorylation-mediated suppression of the mTOR/ Akt oncogenic signaling, and further suggested that misregulation of this process might contribute to Akt hyper-activation that is frequently observed in human cancers.

Assessment of the GPM and TRMM Precipitation Products Using the Rain Gauge Network over the Tibetan Plateau

Using high-quality hourly observations from national-level ground-based stations, the satellite-based rainfall products from both the Global Precipitation Measurement（GPM） Integrated Multisatellit E Retrievals for GPM（IMERG） and its predecessor, the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission（TRMM） Multi-satellite Precipitation Analysis（TMPA）, are statistically evaluated over the Tibetan Plateau（TP）, with an emphasis on the diurnal *** results indicate that：（1） the half-hourly IMERG rainfall product can explicitly describe the diurnal variation over the TP, but with discrepancies in the timing of the greatest precipitation intensity and an overestimation of the maximum rainfall intensity over the whole TP. In addition, the performance of IMERG on the hourly timescale, in terms of the correlation coefficient and relative bias, is different for regions with sea level height below or above 3500 m;（2） the IMERG products, having higher correlation and lower root-mean-square error, perform better than the TMPA products on the daily and monthly timescales; and（3） the detection ability of IMERG is superior to that of TMPA, as corroborated by a higher Hanssen and Kuipers score, a higher probability of detection, a lower false alarm ratio, and a lower bias. Compared to TMPA, the IMERG products ameliorate the overestimation across the TP. In conclusion,GPM IMERG is superior to TRMM TMPA over the TP on multiple timescales.

Cloud base height(CBH) is a crucial parameter for cloud radiative effect estimates, climate change simulations, and aviation guidance. However, due to the limited information on cloud vertical structures included in passive satellite radiometer observations, few operational satellite CBH products are currently available. This study presents a new method for retrieving CBH from satellite radiometers. The method first uses the combined measurements of satellite radiometers and ground-based cloud radars to develop a lookup table(LUT) of effective cloud water content(ECWC), representing the vertically varying cloud water content. This LUT allows for the conversion of cloud water path to cloud geometric thickness(CGT), enabling the estimation of CBH as the difference between cloud top height and CGT. Detailed comparative analysis of CBH estimates from the state-of-the-art ECWC LUT are conducted against four ground-based millimeter-wave cloud radar(MMCR) measurements, and results show that the mean bias(correlation coefficient) is0.18±1.79 km(0.73), which is lower(higher) than 0.23±2.11 km(0.67) as derived from the combined measurements of satellite radiometers and satellite radar-lidar(i.e., Cloud Sat and CALIPSO). Furthermore, the percentages of the CBH biases within 250 m increase by 5% to 10%, which varies by location. This indicates that the CBH estimates from our algorithm are more consistent with ground-based MMCR measurements. Therefore, this algorithm shows great potential for further improvement of the CBH retrievals as ground-based MMCR are being increasingly included in global surface meteorological observing networks, and the improved CBH retrievals will contribute to better cloud radiative effect estimates.

A better knowledge of aerosol properties is of great significance for elucidating the complex mechanisms behind frequently occurring haze pollution *** this study,we examine the temporal and spatial variations in both PM_(1)and its major chemical constituents using three-year field measurements that were collected in six representative regions in China between 2012 and *** results show that both PM_(1)and its chemical compositions varied significantly in space and time,with high PM_(1)loadings mainly observed in the *** comparing chemical constituents between clean and polluted episodes,we find that the elevated PM_(1)mass concentration during pollution events should be largely attributable to significant increases in organic matter(OM)and inorganic aerosols like sulfate,nitrate,and ammonium(SNA),indicative of the critical role of primary emissions and secondary aerosols in elevating PM_(1)pollution *** ratios of PM_(1)/PM2.5 are found to be generally high in Shanghai and Guangzhou,while relatively low ratios are seen in Xi’an and Chengdu,indicating anthropogenic emissions were more likely to accumulate in forms of finer *** respect to the relative importance of chemical components and meteorological factors quantified via statistical modeling practices,we find that primary emissions and secondary aerosols were the two leading factors contributing to PM_(1)variations,though meteorological factors also played important roles in regulating the dispersion of atmospheric PM.

Investigation into the Formation, Structure, and Evolution of an EF4 Tornado in East China Using a High-Resolution Numerical Simulation

Devastating tornadoes in China have received growing attention in recent years, but little is known about their formation, structure, and evolution on the tornadic scale. Most of these tornadoes develop within the East Asian monsoon regime, in an environment quite different from tornadoes in the U.S. In this study, we used an idealized, highresolution（25-m grid spacing） numerical simulation to investigate the deadly EF4（Enhanced Fujita scale category 4）tornado that occurred on 23 June 2016 and claimed 99 lives in Yancheng, Jiangsu Province. A tornadic supercell developed in the simulation that had striking similarities to radar observations. The violent tornado in Funing County was reproduced, exceeding EF4（74 ms–1）, consistent with the on-site damage survey. It was accompanied by a funnel cloud that extended to the surface, and exhibited a double-helix vorticity structure. The signal of tornado genesis was found first at the cloud base in the pressure perturbation field, and then developed both upward and downward in terms of maximum vertical velocity overlapping with the intense vertical vorticity centers. The tornado＇s demise was found to accompany strong downdrafts overlapping with the intense vorticity centers. One of the interesting findings of this work is that a violent surface vortex was able to be generated and maintained, even though the simulation employed a free-slip lower boundary condition. The success of this simulation, despite using an idealized numerical approach, provides a means to investigate more historical tornadoes in China.

A wide variety of algorithms have been developed to monitor aerosol burden from satellite images. Still, few solutions currently allow for real-time and efficient retrieval of aerosol optical thickness （AOT）, mainly due to the extremely large volume of computation necessary for the numeric solution of atmospheric radiative transfer equations. Taking into account the efforts to exploit the SYNergy of Terra and Aqua Modis （SYNTAM, an AOT retrieval algorithm）, we present in this paper a novel method to retrieve AOT from Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer （MODIS） satellite images, in which the strategy of block partition and collective communication was taken, thereby maximizing load balance and reducing the overhead time during inter-processor communication. Experiments were carried out to retrieve AOT at 0.44, 0.55, and 0.67μm of MODIS/Terra and MODIS/Aqua data, using the parallel SYNTAM algorithm in the IBM System Cluster 1600 deployed at China Meteorological Administration （CMA）. Results showed that parallel implementation can greatly reduce computation time, and thus ensure high parallel efficiency. AOT derived by parallel algorithm was validated against measurements from ground-based sun-photometers; in all cases, the relative error range was within 20%, which demonstrated that the parallel algorithm was suitable for applications such as air quality monitoring and climate modeling.
