Spatial dynamic patterns of saltmarsh vegetation in southern Hangzhou Bay:Exotic and native species

A saltmarsh has developed rapidly on the mudflat of Andong Shoal,in southern Hangzhou Bay,over the last decade since *** saltmarsh vegetation changes are driven by both sediment dynamic conditions and the competition between the exotic species Spartina alterniflora(***) and the native species Scirpus mariqueter(***).This study attempted to investigate large-scale spatial variations in the exotic and native species,by analyzing and interpreting a time series(2016-2018) of high-resolution(less than 1 m) remote sensing *** total area of the saltmarsh increased at a rate of 1.07 km^2/year,due to the accretion of the whole tidal *** spatial patterns revealed a new bimodal pattern for *** *** expanded over the upper to middle saltmarsh at a rate of1.68 km2/***,the *** patches at the seaward edge expanded at a negative rate of-0.005 km^2/year,indicating a different pattern in competition:*** had more advantages in the upper saltmarsh,while *** had more advantages in the pioneer zone with low ***,*** mainly established new habitats by invading *** in the middle saltmarsh,but *** occupied the bare mudflat for *** results aindicated that the interspecific competition result between *** and *** depended on elevation,and low elevation might create a favorable environment for *** to win the competition with exotic *** finding could be applied to future invasive species control and saltmarsh management.

Lycopene exerts anti-inflammatory effect to inhibit prostate cancer progression

Lycopene is a natural compound that alleviates oxidative stress and inflammation,exerting therapeutic effects in a number of *** aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of lycopene in inhibiting prostate *** viability assays indicated the dose-and time-dependent toxicity of lycopene in prostate cancer *** V/propidium iodide double-staining assays revealed the strong apoptotic effects of *** levels of inflammatory factors,including interleukin-1 (ILl),IL6,ILS,and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),in lycopene-treated cells were also reduced by lycopene *** the increasing dose of lycopene,the survival of mice bearing prostate cancer xenografts was significantly improved (P <0.01),and the tumor burden was significantly reduced (P <0.01).Our results indicate that lycopene is a promising chemotherapy drug,which inhibits prostate cancer progression by suppressing the inflammatory response.

Abatement of SO_2–NOx binary gas mixtures using a ferruginous active absorbent:Part I. Synergistic effects and mechanism

A novel ferruginous active absorbent, prepared by fly ash, industrial lime and the additive Fe（VI）, was introduced for synchronous abatement of binary mixtures of SO2–NOx from simulated coal-fired flue gas. The synergistic action of various factors on the absorption of SO2 and NOx was investigated. The results show that a strong synergistic effect exists between Fe（VI） dose and reaction temperature for the desulfurization. It was observed that in the denitration process, the synergy of Fe（VI） dose and Ca/（S ＋ N） had the most significant impact on the removal of NO, followed by the synergy of Fe（VI） and reaction temperature, and then the synergy of reaction temperature and flue gas humidity. A scanning electron microscope（SEM） and an accessory X-ray energy spectrometer（EDS）were used to observe the surface characteristics of the raw and spent absorbent as well as fly ash. A reaction mechanism was proposed based on chemical analysis of sulfur and nitrogen species concentrations in the spent absorbent. The Gibbs free energy, equilibrium constants and partial pressures of the SO2–NOx binary system were determined by thermodynamics.

This study investigated the formation mechanism of new grains due to twin–twin intersections in a coarse-grained Mg–6Al–3Sn–2Zn alloy during different strain rates of an isothermal *** results of electron backscattered diffraction investigations showed that the activated twins were primarily{1012}tension twins,and 60°boundaries formed due to twin–twin intersections under different strain *** twin variants with 60°boundaries transformed into new grains through lattice rotations at a low strain rate(0.01 s^(−1)).At a high strain rate(10 s^(−1)),the regions surrounded by subgrain boundaries through high-density dislocation arrangement and the 60°boundaries transformed into new grains via dynamic recrystallization.

Thermoelectric materials are competitive candidates for special cooling ***_(3)Sb_(2)-based materials consisting of inexpensive ingredients have profound thermoelectric *** present,alloying with Mg_(3)Bi_(2) is the most effective approach to optimize the thermoelectric properties of Mg_(3)Sb_(2)-based ***,the extremely low abundance of bismuth in the crust contradicts its economic *** this work,the ZrO_(2) micro-particles were separated into the Mg_(3.2)Sb_(1.99)Te_(0.01).The doping effect of Zr atoms at Mg sites increased the electrical conductivity,and the combined secondary phase lowered the lattice thermal *** acceptable degradation in the Seebeck coefficient,the sample combined with 5%(in mass)ZrO_(2) exhibited a dimensionless figure of merit(zT)of 0.49 and a power factor of 2.7 mW·m^(−1)·K^(−2) near room *** average zT in the range from 300 K to 500 K reached 0.8,on par with the Mg_(3)Sb_(2) single bond Mg_(3)Bi_(2) ***,the compressive and bending strengths reach 669 MPa and 269 MPa,respectively,far superior to the common room-temperature *** secondary phase showed a surprising and uncostly promotion of the Mg_(3)Sb_(2)-based thermoelectric materials,impelling the realization of its commercial application.

Ballistic performance of spherical fragments penetrating PCrNi3MoV target plates

PCrNi3MoV steel is a medium-carbon,low-alloy quenched and tempered steel that finds its applications in military gun barrels due to the high wear resistance and ablation *** study the penetration and failure modes of PCrNi3MoV plates impacted by tungsten spheres,tungsten spheres of various diameters(5 mm,8 mm,and 10 mm)were used to impact PCrNi3MoV steel plates with thicknesses of 6 mm,9 mm,and 14 *** penetration performance of the spheres was analyzed for different velocities,and the ultimate penetration velocity of the plate was *** was found that the primary failure modes of the PCrNi3MoV plate were compression pitting failure and shear *** the dimensional analysis method,a relationship between the bulge height of the steel plate and the fragment velocity,an equation for the ultimate penetration velocity,and a relationship between the target penetration energy and the fragment velocity were ***,a projectile-target action index was proposed to describe the process of tungsten spheres with different velocities impacting target *** results suggested that under the same thickness of the target plate,a larger-diameter fragment required more kinetic energy to obtain the same ultimate penetration effect as a smaller-diameter *** equations obtained through dimensional analysis predicted values that agreed well with experimental values,indicating that these equations can be applied to engineering applications.

Numerical simulation investigation on hydration heat temperature and early cracking risk of concrete box girder in cold regions

The temperature change caused by hydration leads to early-age cracking in concrete box *** early-age cracking risk is further improved with low air temperature and large daily temperature difference,especially in Northwest *** fill this gap,a temperature experiment and numerical simulation were performed on an actual concrete box girder segment in Northwest *** temperature field,thermal stress and cracking risk were analyzed using evolution curves,distribution curves and *** key parameters that influence the hydration heat temperature,including the cement hydration heat release,cement content,height-width ratio of web,initial temperature,convective coefficient of top plate surface,were *** anti-cracking case based on parameters analysis was put *** results indicated that the temperature evolution can be divided into three stages:warming,cooling and environment significantly *** the thickness of each plate,temperature distributed is single peak in the *** the width or height,temperature distributed is double peaks at axillary position for the top and bottom plates,and single peak in center for the *** axillary position and web have high thermal stress and significant cracking *** temperature difference of each plate,and the early-age cracking risk can be reduced by effectively adjusting the key *** these,the former two parameters are the most significant *** maximum cracking risk can be decreased by 15.7%for every 50 kJ/kg hydration heat *** maximum cracking risk can be decreased by 13.1%for every 50 kg/m^(3)cement content reduction.

Inherently safer reactors and procedures to prevent reaction runaway

Reaction runaway has longtime been an issue in chemical industry as it often leads to severe accidents if not controlled and inhibited *** we have reviewed several key considerations and procedures to prevent such phenomena,including inherently safer reactor design,thermal risk assessment and early warning detection of runaway,and pointed out that the basic principle underlying is necessary heat management and construction of resilient *** inherently safer reactor design,important factors such as heat removal,heat capacitance,flow behaviors and explosive behaviors have been *** survey shows that heat exchanger(HEX) reactor and microreactor outperform traditional ***,we have looked into the effect of thermal risk ranking and safety operation region determining for thermal risk assessment,and the influence of runaway criteria and construction methods for early detection of reaction runaway as *** shows that thermal risk assessment plays a key role on process design,and early warning detection system(EWDS) is preferable on prevention of reaction *** the end,perspectives regarding inherently safer designs with the measures discussed above have been provided.
