Growth of Ag/g-C_(3)N_(4) nanocomposites on nickel foam to enhance photocatalytic degradation of formaldehyde under visible light

Formaldehyde is a pollutant that significantly affects the indoor air quality.However,conventional remediation approaches can be challenging to deal with low-concentration formaldehyde in an indoor environment.In this study,Photocatalysts of Ag/graphitic carbon nitride(g-C_(3)N_(4))/Ni with 3D reticulated coral structure were prepared by thermal polymerization and liquid phase photo-deposition,using nickel foam(NF)as the carrier.Experiments demonstrated that when the Ag concentration was 3%,and the relative humidity was 60%,the Ni/Ag/g-C_(3)N_(4)showed the maximum degradation rate of formaldehyde at 90.19%under visible light irradiation,and the formaldehyde concentration after degradation was lower than the Hygienic standard stated by the Chinese Government.The porous structure of Ni/Ag/g-C_(3)N_(4)and the formation of Schottky junctions promoted the Adsorption efficiency and degradation of formaldehyde,while the nickel foam carrier effectively promoted the desorption of degradation products.Meanwhile,the degradation rate was only reduced by3.4%after 16 recycles,the three-dimensional porous structure extended the lifetime of the photocatalyst.This study provides a new strategy for the degradation of indoor formaldehyde at low concentrations.

The Three Principles of Institutional Safeguards for Women's Participation in Legislation in China

The participation of women in legislation is an important aspect and means of safeguarding women’s rights. Feminist theory,basedoncriticismofboththe“citizenshipidentitytheory asrights”andthe“citizenshipidentitytheoryasresponsibilities,”proposes the “citizenship identity theory as subjectivity.” Observing the current practice of women’s participation in legislation in China,two institutional safeguard principles can be summarized:the “minimum proportion” and the “influence evaluation.” However, each of these principles has its inherent limitations. Therefore, it is necessary tosupplementthemwiththeprincipleof“subjectiveparticipation”in a reflective manner. This principle requires women to participate substantively in the legislative process as subjects, express women’s needs and demands, input women’s perspectives and experiences, and reconstruct the distribution of rights and responsibilities in the existing legislation. The three principles complement each other and work togethertocomprehensivelyconstitutetheinstitutionalstructureof women’s participation in legislation, thereby promoting the reproduction of corresponding action structures.

Response of ocean acidification to atmospheric carbon dioxide removal

Artificial CO_(2)removal from the atmosphere(also referred to as negative CO_(2)emissions)has been proposed as a potential means to counteract anthropogenic climate change.Here we use an Earth system model to examine the response of ocean acidification to idealized atmospheric CO_(2)removal scenarios.In our simulations,atmospheric CO_(2)is assumed to increase at a rate of 1%per year to four times its pre-industrial value and then decreases to the pre-industrial level at a rate of 0.5%,1%,2%per year,respectively.Our results show that the annual mean state of surface ocean carbonate chemistry fields including hydrogen ion concentration([H^(+)]),pH and aragonite saturation state respond quickly to removal of atmospheric CO_(2).However,the change of seasonal cycle in carbonate chemistry lags behind the decline in atmospheric CO_(2).When CO_(2)returns to the pre-industrial level,over some parts of the ocean,relative to the pre-industrial state,the seasonal amplitude of carbonate chemistry fields is substantially larger.Simulation results also show that changes in deep ocean carbonate chemistry substantially lag behind atmospheric CO_(2)change.When CO_(2)returns to its pre-industrial value,the whole-ocean acidity measured by[H^(+)]is 15%-18%larger than the pre-industrial level,depending on the rate of CO_(2)decrease.Our study demonstrates that even if atmospheric CO_(2)can be lowered in the future as a result of net negative CO_(2)emissions,the recovery of some aspects of ocean acidification would take decades to centuries,which would have important implications for the resilience of marine ecosystems.

Classifying Chinese Medicine Constitution Using Multimodal Deep-Learning Model

Objective:To develop a multimodal deep-learning model for classifying Chinese medicine constitution,i.e.,the balanced and unbalanced constitutions,based on inspection of tongue and face images,pulse waves from palpation,and health information from a total of 540 subjects.Methods:This study data consisted of tongue and face images,pulse waves obtained by palpation,and health information,including personal information,life habits,medical history,and current symptoms,from 540 subjects(202 males and 338 females).Convolutional neural networks,recurrent neural networks,and fully connected neural networks were used to extract deep features from the data.Feature fusion and decision fusion models were constructed for the multimodal data.Results:The optimal models for tongue and face images,pulse waves and health information were ResNet18,Gate Recurrent Unit,and entity embedding,respectively.Feature fusion was superior to decision fusion.The multimodal analysis revealed that multimodal data compensated for the loss of information from a single mode,resulting in improved classification performance.Conclusions:Multimodal data fusion can supplement single model information and improve classification performance.Our research underscores the effectiveness of multimodal deep learning technology to identify body constitution for modernizing and improving the intelligent application of Chinese medicine.

Ginsenoside Rd Induces Differentiation of Myeloid Leukemia Cells via Regulating ERK/GSK-3β Signaling Pathway

Objective: To investigate the role of ginsenoside Rd（GRd） in acute myeloid leukemia（AML） cell differentiation. Methods: AML cells were treated with GRd（25, 50, 100 and 200 μg/mL）, retinoic acid（RA, 0.1g/L） and PD98059（20 mg/mL） for 72 h, cell survival was detected by methylthiazolyldiphenyl-tetrazolium bromide and colony formation assays, and cell cycle was detected by flow cytometry. Cell morphology and differentiation were observed by Wright-Giemsa staining, peroxidase chemical staining and cellular immunochemistry assay, respectively. The protein expression levels of GATA binding protein 1（GATA-1）, purine rich Box-1（PU.1）, phosphorylated-extracellular signal-related kinase（p-ERK）, ERK, phosphorylated-glycogen synthase kinase-3β（p-GSK3β）, GSK3β and signal transducer and activator of transcription 1（STAT1） were detected by Western blot. Thirty-six mice were randomly divided into 3 groups using a random number table: model control group（non-treated）, GRd group [treated with 200 mg/（kg·d） GRd] and homoharringtonine（HTT） group [treated with 1 mg/（kg·d） HTT]. A tumor-bearing nude mouse model was established, and tumor weight and volume were recorded. Changes of subcutaneous tumor tissue were observed after hematoxylin and eosin staining. WT1 and GATA-1 expressions were detected by immunohistochemical staining. Results: The cell survival was inhibited by GRd in a dose-dependent manner and GRd caused G0/G1cell arrest（P<0.05）. GRd treatment induced leukemia cell differentiation, showing increased expressions of peroxidase and specific proteins concerning erythrogenic or granulocytic differentiation（P<0.05）. GRd treatment elicited upregulation of p-ERK, p-GSK-3β and STAT1 expressions in cells, and reversed the effects of PD98059 on inhibiting the expressions of peroxidase, GATA-1 and PU.1（P<0.05）. After GRd treatment, tumor weight and volume of mice were decreased, and tumor cells underwent massive apoptosis and necrosis（P<0.05）. When new information enters the brain,a human's prior knowledge of the world can change rapidly through a process referred to as"knowledge assembly".Recently,Nelli et al.investigated the neural correlates of knowledge assembly in the human brain using functional MRI.Further,inspired by the neural mechanism,the authors developed an artificial neural network algorithm to permit rapid knowledge assembly,improving the flexibility of the system[1].Once again,this research demonstrates that studying how the brain works can lead to better computational algorithms.

We conducted a comprehensive review of existing prediction models pertaining to the efficacy of immune-checkpoint inhibitor(ICI)and the occurrence of immune-related adverse events(irAEs).The predictive potential of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio(NLR)and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)in determining ICI effectiveness has been extensively investigated,while limited research has been conducted on predicting irAEs.Furthermore,the combined model incor-porating NLR and PLR,either with each other or in conjunction with additional markers such as carcinoembryonic antigen,exhibits superior predictive capabilities compared to individual markers alone.NLR and PLR are promising markers for clinical applications.Forthcoming models ought to incorporate established efficacious models and newly identified ones,thereby constituting a multifactor composite model.Furthermore,efforts should be made to explore effective clinical application approaches that enhance the predictive accuracy and efficiency.

In this editorial we comment on the article published in the recent issue of the World journal of Gastroenterology.We focus specifically on the mechanisms underlying the effects of fecal microbiota transplantation(FMT)for irritable bowel syndrome(IBS),the factors which affect the outcomes of FMT in IBS patients,and challenges.FMT has emerged as a efficacious intervention for clostridium difficile infection and holds promise as a therapeutic modality for IBS.The utilization of FMT in the treatment of IBS has undergone scrutiny in numerous randomized controlled trials,yielding divergent outcomes.The current frontier in this field seeks to elucidate these variations,underscore the existing knowledge gaps that necessitate exploration,and provide a guideline for successful FMT implementation in IBS patients.At the same time,the application of FMT as a treatment for IBS confronts several challenges.

In situ crosslink polymerization induced long-lived multicolor supramolecular hydrogel based on modifiedβ-cyclodextrin

The construction of hydrogels with good mechanical properties and phosphorescent properties is full of challenges.Herein,we report a supramolecular phosphorescent hydrogel with long lifetime,high tensile strength and self-healing property,which can be easily constructed through in-situ thermalinitiated polymerization of isocyanatoethyl acrylate-modifiedβ-cyclodextrin(β-CD-DA)and acrylatemodified adamantane(Ad-DA),acrylic acid(AA),followed by the non-covalent association with carbon dots(CNDs).The lifetime of phosphorescent hydrogel can reach 1261 ms at room temperature,and the quantum yield is 11%.Importantly,through the efficient triplet to singlet Förster resonance energy transfer(TS-FRET),the phosphorescent hydrogel shows the good phosphorescence energy transfer property for organic dyes Rhodamine B and Eosin Y with the delayed fluorescence lifetime up to 730 ms and 585 ms as well as the energy transfer efficiency(Φ_(ET))up to 99.9%and 99.3%,respectively.Moreover,owing to the host-guest interactions betweenβ-CD-DA and Ad-DA,the three-dimensional cross-linked network phosphorescent hydrogel can be easily stretched to 18 times of its original length,and can achieve self-healing of the cut surfaces within 30 min.These results will expand the scope of phosphorescent materials and provide new ideas and opportunities for materials science.
