Female genital tract metastasis of lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutations: Report of two cases

BACKGROUND The female genital tract is an uncommon site of involvement for extra-genital malignancies. Ovarian metastases have been described as disseminations of lung adenocarcinoma;rare cases of secondary localizations in the cervix, adnexa, and vagina have also been reported in the literature. Here, we report two cases of advanced lung adenocarcinoma with female genital tract metastasis. CASE SUMMARY The first case was a 41-year-old woman with stage IV lung adenocarcinoma metastasizing to the cervix. Immunohistochemistry of the cervical biopsy specimen revealed thyroid transcription factor (TTF)-1(+), cytokeratin (CK)-7(+), and (CK)-20(-). Gene mutational analysis showed epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) L858R mutation in exon 21. She had a positive response to gefitinib, for both the pulmonary mass and cervical neoplasm. The second case was a 29-year-old woman who was diagnosed with stage IV lung adenocarcinoma with EGFR mutation. After 12 mo of treatment with icotinib, ovarian biopsy showed adenocarcinoma with CDX2(-), TTF-1(+++), PAX8(-), CK- 7(+++), CK-20(++), and Ki67(15%+), accompanied with EGFR 19-del mutation and T790M mutation. CONCLUSION Immunohistochemistry and gene mutational testing have greatly helped in locating the initial tumor site when both pulmonary and female genital tract neoplasms exist.

To the Editor： Venous thromboembolism （VTE）, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, is a common complication in cancer patients, and the overall risk of VTE in patients with a malignancy was 7-fold as high as that for patients without cancer. Herein, we report a case of long-term survival associated with crizotinib in an anaplastic lymphoma kinase （ALK）-positive lung cancer patient with a pulmonary artery embolism.

BACKGROUND Antisynthetase syndrome(ASS)is characterized by the presence of antisynthetase antibodies coupled with clinical findings such as fever,polymyositis-dermatomyositis and interstitial lung *** is,however,rare to observe ASS association with B cell lymphoma presenting severe pneumonia as the first clinical *** SUMMARY We evaluated a 59-year-old male patient who presented with cough with sputum,shortness of breath and fever for 13 d.A chest computed tomography radiograph revealed bilateral diffuse ground-glass infiltrates in both upper fields,left lingual lobe and right middle ***,the patient was diagnosed with severe community-acquired pneumonia and respiratory *** was empirically treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics,without *** analysis showed an ASS panel with anti-PL7 ***,electromyography evaluation demonstrated a manifestation of myogenic damage,while deltoid muscle biopsy showed irregular muscle fiber bundles especially abnormal lymphocyte *** addition,bone marrow biopsy revealed high invasive B cell ***,the patient was diagnosed with a relatively rare anti–PL7 antibody positive ASS associated with B cell *** This case highlights that rapidly progressive lung lesions and acute hypoxemic respiratory failure associated with heliotrope rash and extremely high lactate dehydrogenase level should be considered as the characteristics of non-infectious diseases,especially ASS and B cell lymphoma.

Carbon-based nanomaterials have important research significance in various disciplines,such as composite materials,nanoelectronic devices,biosensors,biological imaging,and drug ***,the human and ecological risks associated with carbon-based nanomaterials have received increasing ***,the biological safety of carbon based nanomaterials has not been systematically *** this study,we used different types of carbon materials,namely,graphene oxide(GO),single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNTs),and multiwalled carbon nanotubes(MWCNTs),as models to observe their distribution and oxidative damage in *** results of Histopathological and ultrastructural examinations indicated that the liver and lungs were the main accumulation targets of these ***-μ-XRF analysis revealed that SWCNTs and MWCNTs might be present in the *** shows that the three types of carbon-based nanomaterials could cross the gas-blood barrier and eventually reach the liver *** addition,SWCNTs and MWCNTs could cross the blood-brain barrier and accumulate in the cerebral *** increase in ROS and MDA levels and the decrease in GSH,SOD,and CAT levels indicated that the three types of nanomaterials might cause oxidative stress in the *** suggests that direct instillation of these carbon-based nanomaterials into rats could induce ROS *** addition,iron(Fe)contaminants in these nanomaterials were a definite source of free ***,these nanomaterials did not cause obvious damage to the rat brain *** deposition of selenoprotein in the rat brain was found to be related to oxidative stress and Fe *** information may support the development of secure and reasonable applications of the studied carbon-based nanomaterials.

Determination of soluble solid content and acidity of loquats based on FT-NIR spectroscopy

The near infrared （NIR） spectroscopy technique has been applied in many fields because of its advantages of simple preparation, fast response, and non-destructiveness. We investigated the potential of NIR spectroscopy in diffuse reflectance mode for determining the soluble solid content （SSC） and acidity （pH） of intact loquats. Two cultivars of loquats （Dahongpao and Jiajiaozhong） harvested from two orchards （Tangxi and Chun＇an, Zhejiang, China） were used for the measurement of NIR spectra between 800 and 2500 nm. A total of 400 loquats （100 samples of each cultivar from each orchard） were used in this study. Relationships between NIR spectra and SSC and acidity of loquats were evaluated using partial least square （PLS） method. Spectra preprocessing options included the first and second derivatives, multiple scatter correction （MSC）, and the standard normal variate （SNV）. Three separate spectral windows identified as full NIR （800-2500 nm）, short NIR （800-1100 rim）, and long NIR （1100-2500 nm） were studied in factorial combination with the preprocessing options. The models gave relatively good predictions of the SSC of loquats, with root mean square error of prediction （RMSEP） values of 1.21, 1.00, 0.965, and 1.16 °Brix for Tangxi-Dahongpao, Tangxi-Jiajiaozhong, Chun＇an-Dahongpao, and Chun＇an-Jiajiaozhong, respectively. The acidity prediction was not satisfactory, with the RMSEP of 0.382, 0.194, 0.388, and 0.361 for the above four loquats, respectively. The results indicate that NIR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy can be used to predict the SSC and acidity of loquat fruit.

Edge detection of range images using genetic neural networks

Due to the complexity and asymmetrical illumination, the images of object are difficult to be effectively segmented by some routine method. In this paper, a kind of edge detection method based on image features and genetic algorithms neural network for range images was proposed. Fully considering the essential difference between an edge point and a noise point, some characteristic parameters were extracted from range maps as the input nodes of the network in the algorithm. Firstly, a genetic neural network was designed and implemented. The neural network is trained by genetic algorithm, and then genetic neural network algorithm is combined with the virtue of global optimization of genetic algorithm and the virtue of parallel computation of neural network, so that this algorithm is of good global property. The experimental results show that this method can get much faster and more accurate detection results than the classical differential algorithm, and has better anti-noise performance.
