This study proposed a random Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method for analyzing the post-failure behavior of landslides,which is based on the Karhunen-Loeve(K-L) expansion,the non-Newtonian fluid model,and the OpenMP parallel ***,the applicability of this method was validated by comparing the generated random field with theoretical result and by simulating the post-failure process of an actual ***,an illustrative landslide example was created and simulated to obtain the spatial variability effect of internal friction angle on the post-failure behavior of landslides under different coefficients of variation(COVs) and correlation lengths(CLs).As a conclusion,the reinforcement with materials of a larger friction angle can reduce the runout distance and impact the force of a *** the increase of COV,the distribution range of influence zones also increases,which indicates that the deviation of influence zones becomes *** addition,the correlation length in Monte Carlo simulations should not be too small,otherwise the variation range of influence zones will be underestimated.

Water balance in cathode catalyst layer(CCL) is crucial for proton exchange membrane fuel cells(PEMFCs). Herein, we report a novel strategy to develop a Janus few layered graphene particles(FLGP) with asymmetric wettability by varying the carbon precursors in the chemical vapor deposition(CVD) *** the Janus FLGP supported Pt with asymmetric wettability as the cathode of a PEMFC, a peak power density of 632 m W cmwas achieved, which was about two-folds of the hydrophobic FLGP and three-folds of hydrophilic FLGP based cathode, respectively. The enhanced performance could be ascribed to the well-constructed three-phase boundary in an anti-flooding cathode, leading to enlarged electrochemical active surface area and facilitated mass transfer. This work may provide new clues for improving water management in PEMFCs.

A new local kinetic energy(KE)budget for the Madden−Julian Oscillation(MJO)is constructed in a multi-scale *** energy budget framework allows us to analyze the local energy conversion processes of the MJO with the high-frequency disturbances and the low-frequency background *** KE budget analysis is applied to a pronounced MJO event during the DYNAMO field campaign to investigate the KE transport path of the *** work done by the pressure gradient force and the conversion of available potential energy at the MJO scale are the two dominant processes that affect the MJO KE *** MJO winds transport MJO KE into the MJO convection region in the lower troposphere while it is transported away from the MJO convection region in the upper *** energy cascade process is relatively weak,but the interaction between high-frequency disturbances and the MJO plays an important role in maintaining the high-frequency disturbances within the MJO *** MJO KE mainly converts to interaction KE between MJO and high-frequency disturbances over the area where the MJO zonal wind is *** interaction KE over the MJO convection region is enhanced through its flux convergence and further transport KE to the high-frequency *** process is conducive to maintaining the MJO *** study highlights the importance of KE interaction between the MJO and the high-frequency disturbances in maintaining the MJO convection.

BACKGROUND Lymphovascular invasion(LVI)and perineural invasion(PNI)are important prognostic factors for gastric cancer(GC)that indicate an increased risk of metastasis and poor *** preoperative prediction of LVI/PNI status could help clinicians identify high-risk patients and guide treatment ***,prior models using conventional computed tomography(CT)images to predict LVI or PNI separately have had limited *** CT provides quantitative enhancement parameters that may better capture tumor *** hypothesized that a predictive model combining clinical and spectral CT parameters would accurately preoperatively predict LVI/PNI status in GC *** To develop and test a machine learning model that fuses spectral CT parameters and clinical indicators to predict LVI/PNI status *** This study used a retrospective dataset involving 257 GC patients(training cohort,n=172;validation cohort,n=85).First,several clinical indicators,including serum tumor markers,CT-TN stages and CT-detected extramural vein invasion(CT-EMVI),were extracted,as were quantitative spectral CT parameters from the delineated tumor ***,a two-step feature selection approach using correlation-based methods and information gain ranking inside a 10-fold cross-validation loop was utilized to select informative clinical and spectral CT parameters.A logistic regression(LR)-based nomogram model was subsequently constructed to predict LVI/PNI status,and its performance was evaluated using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC).RESULTS In both the training and validation cohorts,CT T3-4 stage,CT-N positive status,and CT-EMVI positive status are more prevalent in the LVI/PNI-positive group and these differences are statistically significant(P<0.05).LR analysis of the training group showed preoperative CT-T stage,CT-EMVI,single-energy CT values of 70 keV of venous phase(VP-70 keV),and the ratio of standardized iodine co

After experiencing 8-day combined tidal current,circulation and wave actions,scour depth surrounding cylinder object freely resting on sandy seabed in the East China Sea(ECS) in January is numerically predicted using the DRAMBUIE model designed for scour burial,which has been widely used and verified by in-situ *** the period of numerical integration,the value of time t is generally variable at every time step via the special time-stepped approach developed by this paper to eliminate the time *** tidal current velocity,wave orbital velocity and the depth-averaged circulation in the ECS have been obtained by numerical simulations with Estuarine Coastal and Ocean Model(ECOM),Simulating Waves Nearshore(SWAN) model and Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS) model *** control experiment and several idealized test cases on influential factors in scour depth reveal that the dominant hydrodynamic factor is tidal current in the ECS under normal weather conditions,and the impacts of shelf circulation and wave motion on local scour almost can be ignored with an exception of the Kuroshio area where the high-speed mainstream of Kuroshio *** is also indicated that in sandy sediments,the distribution of scour depth nearly follows the pattern of tidal currents,while the secondary influencing factor on scour depth appears to be grain size of sandy sediment in the *** tests on sediment grain size further testify that much finer sand is more easily scoured,and an increasing trend for scour depth with reduction of grain size is displayed due to imposed resistance of larger sized *** aspects explored by this paper,including the empirical equations in the Defense Research Agency Mine Burial Environment(DRAMBUIE) model,the accuracy of inputs and infill process can severely affect the prediction of scour depth surrounding cylinder objects freely resting on sandy seabed in the ECS.

Global ecosystems and public health have been greatly impacted by the accumulation of heavy metal(loid)s in ***-specific risk apportionment is needed to prevent and manage potential groundwater contamination with heavy metal(loid)*** heavy metal(loid)s contamination status,water quality,ecological risk,and health risk apportionment of the Shule River Basin groundwater are poorly ***,field sampling was performed to explore the water quality and risk of heavy metal(loid)s in the groundwater of the Shule River Basin in northwestern China.A total of 96 samples were collected from the study area to acquire data for water quality and heavy metal(loid)s *** was noticeable accumulation of ferrum in the groundwater of the Shule River *** levels of pollution were considered to be moderately low,as evaluated by the degree of contamination,heavy metal evaluation index,heavy metal pollution index,and Nemerow pollution *** ecological risks were also ***,an assessment of the water quality index revealed that only 58.34%of the groundwater samples had good water *** absolute principal component scores-multiple linear regression model was more suited for this study area than the positive matrix factorization *** were no obvious noncarcinogenic or carcinogenic concerns for all types of receptors according to the values of the total hazard index and total carcinogenic *** human activities and the initial geological environment factor(65.85%)was the major source of noncarcinogenic risk(residential children:87.56%;residential adults:87.52%;recreational children:86.77%;and recreational adults:85.42%),while the industrial activity factor(16.36%)was the major source of carcinogenic risk(residential receptors:87.96%;and recreational receptors:68.73%).These findings provide fundamental and crucial information for reducing the health issues caused by heavy metal(loid)s contamination of groundwater in arid areas.

Steel strip feeding into the mold during continuous casting is known as an innovative *** newly applied technology is designed to further improve the slab *** analyze the complex phase change processes,molten sodium thiosulphate(Na2S2O3-5H2O)was used in the experimental investigation as a transparent analog for metallic ***,a numerical model incorporating fluid flow,heat transfer and phase change during strip feeding into the mold process was *** generalized enthalpy-based method was applied to describe the phase change behavior,and the porous media theory was used to model the blockage of fluid flow by the dendrites in the mushy zone between the strip and melt as well as the solidified shell and *** validated model was then used for the simulation of the real strip feeding into the mold process in an industrial *** whole shape of the strip under the effect of jet flow from the submerged entry nozzle(SEN)was *** show that the strip will reach a pseudo-steady state after experiencing steel sheath formation,steel sheath melting and strip melting *** using the feeding method that is the strip narrow side toward the SEN in the present condition,the strip immersion length can reach 4.5 m below the meniscus and the slab centerline temperature can be decreased by 21 K to a *** the strip feeding speed increased from 0.3 to 0.5 m/s,the minimum temperature of the centerline could be lowered by 4 K or so.

Effects of High Hydrostatic Pressure on the Solubilities and Structures of Alaska Pollock Protein

Alaska pollock is an important protein source which is extensively used in the food industry. Pollock protein isolates(PPI) with significantly enriched protein contents could be prepared using isoelectric solubilization/precipitation(ISP) processing; however, the functional properties of this process is limited by the large amount of water-insoluble proteins. In this study, we investigated the influence of high hydrostatic pressure(HHP) treatment on the solubility and structural changes of PPI. PPI obtained using ISP is treated with hydrostatic pressures of 200, 300, 400, and 500 MPa for up to 15 min, and the HHP-treated samples were observed to exhibit significantly improved solubilities. Further biochemical assays reveal that the continuous HHP treatments reduce the contents of free sulfhydryl groups and promote the formation of macromolecules with better water solubilities, which may induce the solubility improvements of the HHP-treated PPI. Our results indicate that HHP can be utilized to effectively prepare highly water-soluble Alaska pollock protein in food processing.
