Effect of flame conditions on abrasive wear performance of HVOF sprayed nanostructured WC-12Co coatings

Nanostructured WC-12Co coatings were deposited by high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) spraying with an agglomerated powder. The effect of flame conditions on the microstructure of the nanostructured coatings was investigated. The wear properties of the coatings were characterized using a dry rubber-wheel wear test. The results show that the nanostructured WC-Co coatings consist of WC, W2C, W and an amorphous binder phase. The microstructure of the coating is significantly influenced by the ratio of oxygen flow to fuel flow. Under the lower ratio of oxygen/fuel flow, the nanostructured coating presents a relative dense microstructure and severe decarburization of WC phase occurs during spraying. With increasing ratio of oxygen/fuel flow, the bonding of WC particles in the coating becomes loose resulting from the original structure of feedstock and the decarburization of WC becomes less owing to limited heating to the powder. Both the decarburization of WC particles in spraying and the bonding among WC particles in the coatings affect the wear performance. The examination of the worn surfaces of the nanostructured coatings reveals that the dominant wear mechanisms would be spalling from the interface of WCCo splats when spray particles undergo a limited melting. While the melting state of the spray particles is improved,the dominant wear mechanisms become the plastic deformation and plowing of the matrix and spalling of WC particles from the matrix.

GRAFTING OF HYDROPHILIC MONOMERS ONTO POLYURETHANE MEMBRANES BY SOLUTION OR PRE-ABSORBING METHODS FOR ACCELERATION OF CELL COMPATIBILITY

Two grafting methods, i.e. solution grafting and pre-adsorbing, are introduced to covalently immobilizehydrophilic polymers on segmented polyurethane (SPU) to modify its hydrophilicity and to improve its cell *** grafting results in higher degree of grafting and rougher surface morphology. Cell culture evaluation demonstratesthat the modified membranes thus obtained are disadvantageous to the endothelial cell (ECs) growth probably because thehydrophilic groups on the surface are over-crowded. However, pre-absorbing grafting generates lower degree of grafting,which is detected and confirmed by ATR-FTIR spectra and water conted angle. Scanning electron microscopic (SEM)measurement shows that the latter method produces a plane and smooth morphology, which is similar to the SPU controlsample controlled. When grafting with lower monomer concentration, ECs could grow on SPU-g-PHEA [poly(2-hydroxyethyl acrylate)], SPU-g-PAAm (polyacrylamide), SPU-g-PDMA [poly(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl methacrylate)] orquatemized SPU-g-PDMA surface with elongated cell shapes. Hence, the cell compatibility of SPU is improved and a usefulmethod to construct a cell compatible layer on the polymer surface has been developed.

Objective:The aim of this study was to explore the effects of Babao dan(BBD),a traditional Chinese medicine,on gastric cancer(GC)progression in *** and Methods:A subcutaneous xenograft mouse model of GC was established using MGC80-3 *** terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP:2'-deoxyuridine 5'-triphosphate-biotin nick-end labeling method was adopted to detect cell apoptosis in *** expression levels of proteins associated with proliferation,apoptosis,and angiogenesis were measured by immunohistochemical staining or western blotting(WB).The activation and protein levels of p-c-jun N-terminal kinase(JNK),p-p38,p-extracellular-regulated kinase 1/2,p-nuclear factor-κB(NF-κB),and p-STAT3 were examined by Bio-plex and ***:BBD significantly inhibited tumor growth in GC mouse models with no adverse effect on body weight or organ *** was also found that BBD significantly suppressed the proliferation of GC tumor cells,induced the apoptosis of tumor cells,and inhibited angiogenesis through inactivating with mitogen-activated protein kinase,NF-κB,and STAT3 ***:BBD exerts suppressive effects on GC tumor growth by regulating multiple pathways in vivo,which may provide a novel treatment option for GC therapy.

Study of primordial deuterium abundance in Big Bang nucleosynthesis

Big Bang nucleosynthesis(BBN)theory predicts the primordial abundances of the light elements^(2) H(referred to as deuterium,or D for short),^(3)He,^(4)He,and^(7) Li produced in the early *** these,deuterium,the first nuclide produced by BBN,is a key primordial material for subsequent *** date,the uncertainty in predicted deuterium abundance(D/H)remains larger than the observational *** this study,the Monte Carlo simulation code PRIMAT was used to investigate the sensitivity of 11 important BBN reactions to deuterium *** found that the reaction rate uncertainties of the four reactions d(d,n)^(3)He,d(d,p)t,d(p,γ)^(3)He,and p(n,γ)d had the largest influence on the calculated D/H ***,the calculated D/H uncertainty cannot reach observational precision even with the recent LUNA precise d(p,γ)^(3) He *** the nuclear physics aspect,there is still room to largely reduce the reaction-rate uncertainties;hence,further measurements of the important reactions involved in BBN are still necessary.A photodisintegration experiment will be conducted at the Shanghai Laser Electron Gamma Source Facility to precisely study the deuterium production reaction of p(n,γ)d.

In multi-fed grid-connected systems,there are complex dynamic interactions between different pieces of *** in situations of weak-grid faults,the dynamic coupling between equipment becomes more *** may cause the system to experience small-signal instability during the fault *** this paper,multi-paralleled doubly fed induction generator(DFIG)-based wind farms(WFs)are taken as an example to study the dynamic coupling within a multi-fed system during fault steady-state of symmetrical low voltage ride-through(LVRT)in a weak *** analysis reveals that the dynamic coupling between WFs will introduce a damping shift to each *** inevitably affects the system’s dynamic stability and brings the risk of small-signal instability during fault steady-state in LVRT *** the distance to fault location and fault severity will exacerbate the dynamic coupling between *** of the dynamic coupling,adjusting the control state of one WF will affect the stability of the remaining WFs in the ***,a cooperative control strategy for multi-paralleled DFIG WFs is proposed to improve dynamic stability during *** analysis and the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy are verified by modal analysis and simu-lation.

Clinical heterogeneity and five phenotypes identified in pediatric Behçet’s syndrome: a cohort study from Shanghai Behçet’s syndrome database

Objectives Behçet’s syndrome(BS)is a rare disease of unknown etiology,with limited reports especially in pediatric *** clinical characteristics and phenotypes of pediatric BS as a highly heterogeneous variable vessel vasculitis were investigated in this *** A cross-sectional study was conducted to compare clinical variables and descriptive characteristics of BS by age of onset and *** analysis was then performed to identify the phenotypes of pediatric *** A total of 2082 BS patients were included in this study,1834 adults and 248 *** with adult-onset BS,pediatric BS had a higher incidence of folliculitis[relative risks(RR)and 95%confidence interval(CI)1.3(1.0–1.5)],uveitis of the left eye[RR and 95%CI 2.3(1.0–5.0)],intestinal ulcer complications[RR and 95%CI 2.1(1.1–4.2)],pericarditis[RR and 95%CI 2.5(1.0–6.2)],and psychiatric disorders[RR and 95%CI 2.8(1.0–7.9)],while the incidence of thrombocytopenia was lower[RR 0.2(0.1–1.0)].Among pediatric BS,females had more genital ulcers,while males were more likely to have skin lesions,panuveitis,vascular involvement,venous lesions,cardiac involvement,and aortic *** analysis classified pediatric BS into five clusters(C1–C5):C1(n=61,24.6%)showed gastrointestinal(GI)involvement;C2(n=44,17.7%)was the central nervous system(CNS)type where 23 cases overlapped joint involvement;in C3(n=35,14.1%),all patients presented with arthritis or arthralgia;all patients in C4(n=29,11.7%)manifested ocular involvement,with a few patients overlapping with GI involvement or joint damage;C5(n=79,31.9%)was the mucocutaneous type,presenting both oral ulcers,genital ulcers,and skin *** The clinical features of pediatric and adult BS differ *** and female pediatric BS also have a distinct *** phenotypes including GI,CNS,joint,ocular,and mucocutaneous types were identified for pediatric BS.

Exhaust hood performance and its improvement technologies in industrial buildings:A literatu rereview

The pollutant control performance of exhaust hoods plays a crucial role in the indoor air quality and energy consumption of ventilation systems in industrial *** better understand the impact of local ventilation on the industrial indoor environment,this paper presents a literature review of exhaust hood performance and its improvement *** create an index for evaluating the performance of exhaust hoods,the capture velocity,capture efficiency,flow ratio of pollutant emissions and exhaust airflow and energy consumption are first introduced.A number of factors affecting exhaust hood performance are assessed such as hood type,hood opening size,exhaust rate,installation distance,pollution source emission and environmental *** to structural improvement methods,the use of active airflow is a more effective way to improve the exhaust hood *** most commonly used methods for determining the exhaust rate are the controlled speed method and the flow ratio *** use of an exhaust hood with an appropriate exhaust rate and jet parameters(for an active air-assisted hood)can effectively improve the pollutant control performance and reduce the energy consumption that would be wasted on the redundant exhaust *** more information focused on exhaust hood performance,this work suggests more effective strategies for improving indoor air quality and reducing energy consumption in industrial buildings.
