Nerve guidance conduits (NGCs) are tubular structures that are used to bridge the gap of a severed nerve, thereby acting as a guide and protective micro-environment for the regenerating axons and as a barrier against the in-growth of scar-forming tissue. In the last few decades, the concept of NGCs has evolved from a research tool to investigate nerve regeneration into a translational product that is now being used clinically as an alternative for autologous nerve graft repair, due to their availability and ease of fabrication.

Controlling Membrane Phase Separation of Polymersomes for Programmed Drug Release

Programmed release of small molecular drugs from polymersomes is of great importance in drug delivery.A significant challenge is to adjust the membrane permeability in a well-controlled ***,we propose a strategy for controlling membrane phase separation by photo-cross-linking of the membrane-forming blocks with different molecular *** synthesized three amphiphilic block copolymers with different membrane-forming blocks,which are poly(ethylene oxide)_(43)-b-poly((ε-caprolactone)_(45)-stat-((α-(cinnamoyloxymethyl)-1,2,3-triazol)caprolactone)_(25))(PEO_(43)-b-P(CL_(45)-stat-CTCL_(25))),PEO_(43)-b-P(CL_(108)-stat-CTCL_(16)),and PEO_(43)-b-PCTCL_(4)-b-PCL_(79).These polymers were self-assembled into polymersomes using either a solvent-switch or powder rehydration method,and the obtained polymersomes were characterized by dynamic light scattering and transmission electron *** the phase separation patterns within the polymersome membranes were investigated by mesoscopic dynamics(MesoDyn)*** further confirm the change of the membrane permeability that resulted from the phase separation within the membrane,doxorubicin,as a small molecular drug,was loaded and released from the *** to the incompatibility between membrane-forming moieties(PCTCL and PCL),phase separation occurs and the release rate can be tuned by controlling the membrane phase pattern or by ***,besides the compacting effect by formation of chemical bonds in the membrane,the cross-linking process can act as a driving force to facilitate the rearrangement and re-orientation of the phase pattern,which also influences the drug release behavior by modulating the cross-membrane distribution of the amorphous PCTCL *** this way,the strategy of focusing on the membrane phase separation for the preparation of the polymersomes with finely tunable drug release rate can be envisioned and designed accordingly,which is of great signifi

Chemical industry is always seeking opportunities to efficiently and economically convert raw materials to commodity chemicals and higher value-added chemicalbased *** life cycles of chemical products involve the procedures of conceptual product designs,experimental investigations,sustainable manufactures through appropriate chemical processes and waste *** these periods,one of the most important keys is the molecular property prediction models associating molecular structures with product *** this paper,a framework combining quantum mechanics and quantitative structure-property relationship is established for fast molecular property predictions,such as activity coefficient,and so *** workflow of framework consists of three *** the first step,a database is created for collections of basic molecular information;in the second step,quantum mechanics-based calculations are performed to predict quantum mechanics-based/derived molecular properties(pseudo experimental data),which are stored in a database and further provided for the developments of quantitative structure-property relationship methods for fast predictions of properties in the third *** whole framework has been carried out within a molecular property prediction *** case studies highlighting different aspects of the toolbox involving the predictions of heats of reaction and solid-liquid phase equilibriums are presented.

due to the deterioration of serious energy dilemma,energy-conservation and emission–reduction have been the strategic target in the past decades,thus people have identified the vital importance of higher energy efficiency and the influence of lower carbon *** work exchange network is a significant part of energy recovery system,its optima design will have dramatically significant effect on energy consumption reduction in chemical process *** an extension of the developed transshipment model in isothermal process,a novel step-wise methodology for synthesis of direct work exchange network(WEN)in adiabatic process involving heat integration is first proposed in this paper,where a nonlinear programming(NLP)model is formulated by regarding the minimum utility consumption as objective function and optimizing the initial WEN in accordance with the presented matching rules to get the optimized WEN configuration at ***,we focus on the work exchange network synthesis with heat integration to attain the minimal total annual cost(TAC)with the introduction of heat-exchange equipment that is achieved by the following strategies in sequence:introducing heat-exchange equipment directly,adjusting the work quantity of the adjacent utility compressors or expanders,and approximating upper/lower pressure limits consequently to obtain considerable cost savings of expanders or compressors and work ***,a case taken from the literature is studied to illustrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method.

In this paper, an efficient methodology for synthesizing the indirect work exchange networks(WEN) considering isothermal process and adiabatic process respectively based on transshipment model is first proposed. In contrast with superstructure method, the transshipment model is easier to obtain the minimum utility consumption taken as the objective function and more convenient for us to attain the optimal network configuration for further minimizing the number of units. Different from division of temperature intervals in heat exchange networks,different pressure intervals are gained according to the maximum compression/expansion ratio in consideration of operating principles of indirect work exchangers and the characteristics of no pressure constraints for stream matches. The presented approach for WEN synthesis is a linear programming model applied to the isothermal process, but for indirect work exchange networks with adiabatic process, a nonlinear programming model needs establishing. Additionally, temperatures should be regarded as decision variables limited to the range between inlet and outlet temperatures in each sub-network. The constructed transshipment model can be solved first to get the minimum utility consumption and further to determine the minimum number of units by merging the adjacent pressure intervals on the basis of the proposed merging methods, which is proved to be effective through exergy analysis at the level of units structures. Finally, two cases are calculated to confirm it is dramatically feasible and effective that the optimal WEN configuration can be gained by the proposed method.

Coach Simplified Structure Modeling and Optimization Study Based on the PBM Method

For the coach industry, rapid modeling and efficient optimization methods are desirable for structure modeling and optimization based on simplified structures, especially for use early in the concept phase and with capabilities of accurately expressing the mechanical properties of structure and with flexible section forms. However, the present dimension-based methods cannot easily meet these requirements. To achieve these goals, the property-based modeling （PBM） beam modeling method is studied based on the PBM theory and in conjunction with the characteristics of coach structure of taking beam as the main component. For a beam component of concrete length, its mechanical characteristics are primarily affected by the section properties. Four section parameters are adopted to describe the mechanical properties of a beam, including the section area, the principal moments of inertia about the two principal axles, and the torsion constant of the section. Based on the equivalent stiffness strategy, expressions for the above section parameters are derived, and the PBM beam element is implemented in HyperMesh software. A case is realized using this method, in which the structure of a passenger coach is simplified. The model precision is validated by comparing the basic performance of the total structure with that of the original structure, including the bending and torsion stiffness and the first-order bending and torsional modal frequencies. Sensitivity analysis is conducted to choose design variables. The optimal Latin hypercube experiment design is adopted to sample the test points, and polynomial response surfaces are used to fit these points. To improve the bending and torsion stiffness and the first-order torsional frequency and taking the allowable maximum stresses of the braking and left turning conditions as constraints, the multi-objective optimization of the structure is conducted using the NSGA-II genetic algorithm on the ISIGHT platform. To study the dynamic behavior of a process,time-resolved data are collected at different time instants during each of a series of experiments,which are usually designed with the design of experiments or the design of dynamic experiments *** utilizing such time-resolved data to model the dynamic behavior,dynamic response surface methodology(DRSM),a datadriven modeling method,has been *** approaches can be adopted in the estimation of the model parameters:stepwise regression,used in several of previous publications,and Lasso regression,which is newly incorporated in this paper for the estimation of DRSM ***,we show that both approaches yield similarly accurate models,while the computational time of Lasso is on average two magnitude *** case studies are performed to show the advantages of the proposed *** the first case study,where the concentrations of different species are modeled directly,DRSM method provides more accurate models compared to the models in the *** second case study,where the reaction extents are modeled instead of the species concentrations,illustrates the versatility of the DRSM ***,DRSM with Lasso regression can provide faster and more accurate datadriven models for a variety of organic synthesis datasets.
