Understanding of the Effect of Climate Change on Tropical Cyclone Intensity:A Review

The effect of climate change on tropical cyclone intensity has been an important scientific issue for a few *** theory and modeling suggest the intensification of tropical cyclones in a warming climate,there are uncertainties in the assessed and projected responses of tropical cyclone intensity to climate *** a few comprehensive reviews have already provided an assessment of the effect of climate change on tropical cyclone activity including tropical cyclone intensity,this review focuses mainly on the understanding of the effect of climate change on basin-wide tropical cyclone intensity,including indices for basin-wide tropical cyclone intensity,historical datasets used for intensity trend detection,environmental control of tropical cyclone intensity,detection and simulation of tropical cyclone intensity change,and some issues on the assessment of the effect of climate change on tropical cyclone *** addition to the uncertainty in the historical datasets,intertwined natural variabilities,the considerable model bias in the projected large-scale environment,and poorly simulated inner-core structures of tropical cyclones,it is suggested that factors controlling the basin-wide intensity can be different from individual tropical cyclones since the assessment of the effect of climate change treats tropical cyclones in a basin as a whole.

Electron beam surface heating-diffusion bonding:An effective joining method for aluminum alloy metal-matrix composite with high SiC volume

As a novel method to reduce the temperature during electron beam welding,and to subsequently inhibit interfacial reaction between SiC and Al matrix,the electron beam surface heating-diffusion bonding is proposed for joining SiC particle reinforced aluminum alloy metal-matrix composite of 45 vol.%SiC/2024 *** defocused electron beam was used to heat the base metal surface,and the simultaneous pressure was applied to the butt surface to achieve *** base metals were successfully joined by *** maximum temperature of the whole joint was effectively decreased to less than 650°*** Gibbs free energy change of interfacial reaction was calculated,meaning a positive value reaching 218 kJ/mol and a consequently prominent inhibitory effect on the formation of brittle Al_(4)C_(3)that was proved by microstructural *** tensile strength for the bonded joint was increased by 35%compared to that for ordinary welded *** the TC4 layer was added,TiC strengthening particles were formed with the deficiency of Al_(4)C_(3),corresponding to the significantly increased tensile strength of 63%of base metal(154 MPa).

Joining of Co coated ferritic stainless steel to ceramic solid oxide cells by a novel Ag-SiO_(2) braze

A novel Ag-SiO_(2) braze for Solid Oxide Cells was successfully developed and applied to join Co coated AISI 441 ferritic stainless steel to YSZ-NiO half *** braze showed an improved wettability on the coated steel and the YSZ compared to pure Ag.A defect-free steel/YSZ joint was obtained using an Ag-1SiO_(2) braze jointed at 1000℃for 30 min in *** microstructure of the joints was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy with energy-dispersive X-ray ***,a Co-Si-O_(2)phase diagram was calculated and used to explain the experimental results and formulate a reaction *** was found,that during the air brazing process,Co_(3)O_(4)and(Co,Fe)_(3)O_(4)are formed by the oxidation of the prefabricated Co *** growth of Cr_(2)O_(3)was effectively impeded by the formed Co-based *** a second step,Co_(2)O_(3)reacts with the SiOpresent in *** CoSiOformed by the reaction ensures a firm bonding between the steel and Ag-SiObraze.

Optimized shearing strategy for heavy plate based on contour recognition

The shearing line is the key to improve the quality and efficiency of heavy plates.A model of contour recognition and intelligent shearing strategy for the heavy plate was ***,multi-array binocular vision linear cameras were used to complete the image ***,the total length of the steel plate after cooling was predicted by back propagation neural network algorithm according to the contour ***,using the scanning line and a new camber description method,the shearing strategy including head/tail irregular shape length and rough dividing strategy was *** practical application shows that the model and strategy can effectively solve the problems existing in the shearing process and can effectively improve the yield of steel *** maximum error of detection width,length,camber,and the length of the irregular deformation area at the head/tail of the plate are all less than 5 *** correlation coefficient of the length prediction model based on the back propagation neural network is very *** reverse ratio result of edge cutting failure using the proposed rough dividing strategy is 1/401=0.2%,which is 2%higher than that by human.

A novel molecular probe system(NapTpa-dnbs)was prepared based on the chromophore napthalimide fused triphenylamine ***-dnbs was tuned to absorb a large fraction of UV and near-infrared *** turn-on fluorescent response of NapTpa-dnbs to thiophenol caused an increased fluorescent emission by a factor of 11.5 at 597 nm in a PBS buffer *** photoinduced electron transform(PET)process of the probe became less feasible with the addition of thiophenol than that of the free ***-dnbs demonstrated high selective and sensitive detection toward thiophenol with respect to other competitive amine *** detection limit was determined to be 2.03×10^?7 mol/L *** sensing process is rapid(3 min).NapTpa-dnbs can accurately detect the thiophenol with a qualified recovery in real water ***-dnbs on test strips can detect the thiophenol vapour in the atmosphere.

Occurrence and conceptual sedimentary model of Cambrian gypsum-bearing evaporites in the Sichuan Basin, SW China

During the Cambrian, gypsum-bearing evaporites formed in the Sichuan Basin, SW China. These rocks are important for oil and gas sealing, but details of their distribution and origin are not well established. This study examines the regional distribution and origin of the gypsum-bearing evaporites using a comprehensive analysis of drilling data from 34 wells, 5 measured cross-sections in the basin and surrounding area, and 96 maps of area-survey data. Results show that in the stratigraphic succession, the gypsum-bearing evaporites occur mainly in the Lower Cambrian Longwangmiao Formation, the Middle Cambrian Douposi Formation, and the Middle-Upper Cambrian Xixiangchi Group. Geographically, the rocks are found mainly in the southeastern part of the basin, and the distribution of deposits shows an overall SW-NE trend. The sedimentary environments for evaporite formation were evaporative lagoon and inter-platform basin in a platform setting. Gypsum was generated by the underwater concentration of sea water in a strongly evaporative environment. Both an evaporative restricted platform and a mixeddeposition restricted platform model appear to be applicable to the development of gypsum in the Sichuan Basin. The gypsum-bearing evaporites with the best sealing capacity are located mostly in the southeastern part of the basin. These constraints can be applied directly to regional exploration, and have implications for the regional paleogeography and paleoclimate.

Analyzing crude oils from the Junggar Basin(NW China) using comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry(GC×GC-TOFMS)

As a new technology of analyzing crude oils, comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography cou- pled with time-of-flight mass spectrometry （GCxGC- TOFMS） has received much research attention. Here we present a case study in the Junggar Basin of NW China. Results show that the hydrocarbons, including saturates and aromatics, were all well-separated without large co- elution, which cannot be realized by conventional one-dimensional GC-MS. The GC×GC technique is especially effective for analyzing aromatics and low-to-middle- molecular-weight hydrocarbons, such as diamondoids. The geochemical characteristics of crude oils in the study area were investigated through geochemical parameters extracted by GC×GC-TOFMS, improving upon the understanding obtained by GC-MS. Thus, the work here represents a new successful application of GC×GC- TOFMS, showing its broad usefulness in petroleum geochemistry.

INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL-BASED NONSOLVENTS ON THE FORMATION AND MORPHOLOGY OF PVDF MEMBRANES IN PHASE INVERSION PROCESS

Through the preparation of PVDF membranes using various nonsolvent coagulation baths following the phase inversion process, the influence of alcohol-based nonsolvents on the formation and structure of PVDF membranes were investigated. The light scattering and light transmission measurements were used to characterize the equilibrium phase diagram and the gelation speed, respectively. The locations of the crystallization-induced gelation boundaries for various systems and precipitation processes were explained from the corresponding thermodynamic and kinetic parameters. It was found that the better affinity between alcohol-based nonsolvents and DMAc solvent caused the gelation boundaries further away from the PVDF-DMAc axis with the coagulation bath varying from water, methanol, ethanol to iso-propanol. Due to the lower exchange rate of DMAc and alcohols, the delayed demixing took place for the membrane-forming using alcohols as baths, and the delayed time became longer when the coagulation bath was changed from methanol, ethanol to iso-propanol. The characterization results of membranes indicate that the influence of nonsolvents on the phase diagram and the precipitation process are in agreement with those on the membrane morphology. The better thermodynamic stability and a low exchange diffusion rate of PVDF/DMAc/alcohols favor the liquid-solid phase separation in gelation process, and therefore yield the membranes with a porous upper surface, a particular bottom surface and symmetrical structure.

Residual stress distribution as a function of depth in graphite/copper brazing joints via X-ray diffraction

The residual stress distributions as a function of depth in three different graphite/copper brazing joints:with no interlayer,with a copper interlayer and with a niobium interlayer are measured via X-ray diffraction by transmission *** residual stress in all the joints is found to be generally compressive and increasing from the surface to the *** and niobium interlayers are both effective in alleviating the residual stress in the joint and the stress value in the joint with a niobium interlayer appearing to be the *** strength of the joint is demonstrated to be closely related to the residual stress and the fracture position of the joint corresponds well with the highest residual stress.
