The technology of three-dimensional(3D)printing emerged in the late 1970s and has since undergone considerable development to find numerous applications in mechanical engineering,industrial design,and biomedicine.In biomedical science,several studies have initially found that 3D printing technology can play an important role in the treatment of diseases in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery.For example,3D printing technology has been applied to create detailed anatomical models of disease organs for preoperative personalized surgical strategies,surgical simulation,intraoperative navigation,medical training,and patient education.Moreover,cancer models have been created using 3D printing technology for the research and selection of chemotherapy drugs.With the aim to clarify the development and application of 3D printing technology in hepatopancreatobiliary surgery,we introduce seven common types of 3D printing technology and review the status of research and application of 3D printing technology in the field of hepatopancreatobiliary surgery.

Learning to optimize(L2O)stands at the intersection of traditional optimization and machine learning,utilizing the capabilities of machine learning to enhance conventional optimization techniques.As real-world optimization problems frequently share common structures,L2O provides a tool to exploit these structures for better or faster solutions.This tutorial dives deep into L2O techniques,introducing how to accelerate optimization algorithms,promptly estimate the solutions,or even reshape the optimization problem itself,making it more adaptive to real-world applications.By considering the prerequisites for successful applications of L2O and the structure of the optimization problems at hand,this tutorial provides a comprehensive guide for practitioners and researchers alike.

Emerging interactively stretchable electronics with optical and electrical dual-signal feedbacks based on structural color materials

The booming development of wearable devices has aroused increasing interests in flexible and stretchable devices.With mechanosensory functionality,these devices are highly desirable on account of their wide range of applications in electronic skin,personal healthcare,human–machine interfaces and beyond.However,they are mostly limited by single electrical signal feedback,restricting their diverse applications in visualized mechanical sensing.Inspired by the mechanochromism of structural color materials,interactively stretchable electronics with optical and electrical dual-signal feedbacks are recently emerged as novel sensory platforms,by combining both of their sensing mechanisms and characteristics.Herein,recent studies on interactively stretchable electronics based on structural color materials are reviewed.Following a brief introduction of their basic components(i.e.,stretchable electronics and mechanochromic structural color materials),two types of interactively stretchable electronics with respect to the nanostructures of mechanochromic materials are outlined,focusing primarily on their design considerations and fabrication strategies.Finally,the main challenges and future perspectives of these emerging devices are discussed.

Data-driven evacuation and rescue traffic optimization with rescue contraflow control

In response to local sudden disasters,e.g.,high-rise office or residential building fire disasters,road occupation can cause conflicts,and traffic directions may be opposite between evacuation vehicles and rescue vehicles;moreover,lane contraflow can be adopted to meet these surge traffic demands.However,lane contraflow that provides more roads for rescue vehicles reduces the traffic supply in the evacuation direction.It is unclear how to control the number of contraflow roads used by rescue vehicles to coordinate evacuation and rescue traffic operations.Here,we adjust the critical rescue traffic volume of reversing the normal road traffic direction to control rescue contraflow.Additionally,we propose a multiobjective mixed integer linear programming formulation for evacuation and rescue traffic optimization.Additionally,considering that the upper limit of the critical rescue traffic volume is unknown and that the proposed formulation includes multiple objectives and multi-priority vehicle classes,a three-stage solving algorithm is developed.Next,a large-scale evacuation and rescue traffic optimization result dataset is obtained for the Nguyen–Dupuis road network,and the impact of different rescue contraflow control plans on evacuation and rescue traffic is studied based on data-driven sta-tistical analysis.The results show that by adjusting the optimal rescue traffic route,the critical rescue traffic volume for reversing the normal road traffic direction can reduce the interference of rescue traffic to evacuation traffic operation performance without reducing rescue traffic operation performance,and can be used to coor-dinate evacuation and rescue traffic operation under rescue contraflow.

Clinical applications of stem cell-derived exosomes

Although stem cell-based therapy has demonstrated considerable potential to manage certain diseases more successfully than conventional surgery,it nevertheless comes with inescapable drawbacks that might limit its clinical translation.Compared to stem cells,stem cell-derived exosomes possess numerous advantages,such as non-immunogenicity,non-infusion toxicity,easy access,effortless preservation,and freedom from tumorigenic potential and ethical issues.Exosomes can inherit similar therapeutic effects from their parental cells such as embryonic stem cells and adult stem cells through vertical delivery of their pluripotency or multipotency.After a thorough search and meticulous dissection of relevant literature from the last five years,we present this comprehensive,up-to-date,specialty-specific and disease-oriented review to highlight the surgical application and potential of stem cell-derived exosomes.Exosomes derived from stem cells(e.g.,embryonic,induced pluripotent,hematopoietic,mesenchymal,neural,and endothelial stem cells)are capable of treating numerous diseases encountered in orthopedic surgery,neurosurgery,plastic surgery,general surgery,cardiothoracic surgery,urology,head and neck surgery,ophthalmology,and obstetrics and gynecology.The diverse therapeutic effects of stem cells-derived exosomes are a hierarchical translation through tissue-specific responses,and cell-specific molecular signaling pathways.In this review,we highlight stem cell-derived exosomes as a viable and potent alternative to stem cell-based therapy in managing various surgical conditions.We recommend that future research combines wisdoms from surgeons,nanomedicine practitioners,and stem cell researchers in this relevant and intriguing research area.

A Novel On-Site-Real-Time Method for Identifying Characteristic Parameters Using Ultrasonic Echo Groups and Neural Network

On-site and real-time non-destructive measurement of elastic constants for materials of a component in a in-service structure is a challenge due to structural complexities,such as ambiguous boundary,variable thickness,nonuniform material properties.This work develops for the first time a method that uses ultrasound echo groups and artificial neural network(ANN)for reliable on-site real-time identification of material parameters.The use of echo groups allows the use of lower frequencies,and hence more accommodative to structural complexity.To train the ANNs,a numerical model is established that is capable of computing the waveform of ultrasonic echo groups for any given set of material properties of a given structure.The waveform of an ultrasonic echo groups at an interest location on the surface the structure with material parameters varying in a predefined range are then computed using the numerical model.This results in a set of dataset for training the ANN model.Once the ANN is trained,the material parameters can be identified simultaneously using the actual measured echo waveform as input to the ANN.Intensive tests have been conducted both numerically and experimentally to evaluate the effectiveness and accuracy of the currently proposed method.The results show that the maximum identification error of numerical example is less than 2%,and the maximum identification error of experimental test is less than 7%.Compared with currently prevailing methods and equipment,the proposefy the density and thickness,in addition to the elastic constants.Moreover,the reliability and accuracy of inverse prediction is significantly improved.Thus,it has broad applications and enables real-time field measurements,which has not been fulfilled by any other available methods or equipment.

Cross-resistance and genetics of field-evolved resistance to chlorfenapyr in Plutella xylostella

Chlorfenapyr is a broad-spectrum halogenated pyrrole insecticide with a unique mode of action.Due to the misuse and overuse of this chemical,resistance has been reported in several arthropods,including Plutella xylostella,which is one of the most destructive insect pests afflicting crucifers worldwide.A better understanding of the cross-resistance and genetics of field-evolved chlorfenapyr resistance could effectively guide resistance management practices.Here,the chlorfenapyr resistance of a fieldderived population of P xylostella was introgressed into the susceptible IPP-S strain using a selection-assisted multigenerational backcrossing approach.The constructed nearisogenic strain,TH-BCsF2,shared 98.4%genetic background with the recurrent parent IPP-S strain.The TH-BCsF2 strain showed 275-fold resistance to chlorfenapyr,but no significant cross-resistance to spinosad,abamectin,chlorpyrifos,β-cypermethrin,indoxacarb,chlorantraniliprole,or broflanilide(no more than 4.2-fold).Genetic analysis revealed that resistance was autosomal,incompletely dominant,and conferred by 1 major gene or a few tightly linked loci.The synergism of metabolic inhibitors(PBO,DEM,and DEF)to chlorfenapyr was very weak(<1.7-fold),and the metabolic enzyme activities in the TH-BCsF2 strain were not significantly elevated compared with the IPP-S strain.The results enhances our understanding of the genetic traits of chlorfenapyr resistance,and provides essential information for improving resistance management strategies.

An interesting synergistic effect of heteronuclear dual-atom catalysts for hydrogen production:Offsetting or promoting

To elucidate the synergistic effect of dual-atom catalysts(DACs)at the microscopic level,we propose and construct a prototype heteronuclear system,CuNi/TiO_(2),in which the two elements of a pair have significantly different d electron-donating abilities,as a piece in the puzzle.Using density functional theory calculations,we investigate charge-dependent configurations of Cu-Ni dimers anchored on TiO_(2)by the mixing of individual constituent atoms.The d electron-donating ability determines deposition sequence and position of transition metal atoms on oxides,establishing dimer pattern and metal-support interactions.The interaction between Cu and Ni,beyond the coordination environment,predominately contributes to the synergistic effect.A complex adsorption-reduction behavior of H species on CuNi/TiO_(2)is observed.The reaction mechanism and catalytic activity of CuNi/TiO_(2)for hydrogen production are explored.At room temperature and high H coverages,CuNi/TiO_(2)shows better performance and efficiency than Ni1/TiO_(2).Our findings provide a new understanding of the synergistic effect on structure-activity relationships of supported dimers,which would be beneficial in the future design of various DACs or even atomically dispersed metal catalysts.

Effect of End Shape on Flow and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Two Parallel Plates

Flow around a pair of flat plates is a basic hydrodynamics problem.In this paper,the flow and heat transfer characteristics of two parallel plates with different edge shapes are numerically calculated.Under different inclined angles,the influence of chamfered and rounded structures with different sizes at the end-edge on unsteady flow and heat transfer characteristics of two parallel plates are analyzed.It is found that the instability and unsteadiness of flow decrease with the increase of end-edge size,and the non-uniformity of wake velocity of both rounded and chamfered plates decreases gradually.The non-uniformity of wake temperature increases firstly and then decreases at a small inclined angle,and the amplitude becomes the largest when S_(rou)(S_(cha))=3,while it basically keeps monotonically increasing at a large inclined angle.Moreover,the global heat transfer performance of the flat plate is obviously affected by the end-edge modification,especially the chamfered structure.With the increase of chamfered size,the global Nusselt number basically shows the decreasing trend.This study provides a theoretical basis for the application of plate-shape structure in engineering fields.

Investigating Periodic Dependencies to Improve Short-Term Load Forecasting

With a further increase in energy flexibility for customers,short-term load forecasting is essential to provide benchmarks for economic dispatch and real-time alerts in power grids.The electrical load series exhibit periodic patterns and share high associations with metrological data.However,current studies have merely focused on point-wise models and failed to sufficiently investigate the periodic patterns of load series,which hinders the further improvement of short-term load forecasting accuracy.Therefore,this paper improved Autoformer to extract the periodic patterns of load series and learn a representative feature from deep decomposition and reconstruction.In addition,a novel multi-factor attention mechanism was proposed to handle multi-source metrological and numerical weather prediction data and thus correct the forecasted electrical load.The paper also compared the proposed model with various competitive models.As the experimental results reveal,the proposed model outperforms the benchmark models and maintains stability on various types of load consumers.
