Can patients with mild non-neoplastic lesions diagnosed at baseline screening be safely exempt from surveillance: evidence from multicenter community-based cohorts

Surveillance recommendations for gastric cancer（GC） in current guidelines focused on advanced precancerous lesions and were based on precise diagnosis of severity/extent of baseline lesions. We aimed to develop a less endoscopy-related equipment-dependent risk-stratification tool, and assessed whether mild-precursor-lesion patients can be safely exempt from surveillance. In the multicenter communitybased cohort, 75,051 participants receiving baseline endoscopy were enrolled during 2015–2017 and followed-up until 2021. Cumulative incidence rates（CIRs） of GC for precancerous-conditions were calculated by Kaplan-Meier method and compared by Log-rank tests. Mixedeffects Cox regression models were used to detect potential factors for progression towards GC. A risk score was calculated as counts of selected factors. An independent cohort, including 26,586 participants was used for external validation. During a median follow-up of 6.25 years, CIRs of GC were 0.302%, 0.436%, and 4.756% for normal group, non-neoplastic（atrophic gastritis/intestinal metaplasia） and neoplastic lesions（low-grade/high-grade dysplasia）, respectively(Ptrend<0.001). Four predictors, including male, ≥60 years, smoking, and limited vegetable consumption, were selected for risk-stratification. High-risk patients（≥3 risk factors） with non-neoplastic lesions showed higher GC risks（adjusted HR=7.73, 95%CI: 4.29–13.92）, and their four-year CIR reached the one-year CIR of neoplastic lesions. Further categorizing non-neoplastic lesions by histological grade, both patients with moderate-to-severe lesions（aHR=3.07, 95%CI: 1.67–5.64） and high-risk patients with mild lesions（aHR=7.29, 95%CI: 3.58–14.86） showed higher risks. Consistent trends were observed in validation cohort. High-risk mild-precursor-lesion patients should receive surveillance within 3–5 years after baseline screening. Our study provides evidence on supplementing current guideline recommendations.

Efficient dynamic pruning on largest scores first (LSF) retrieval

Inverted index traversal techniques have been studied in addressing the query processing performance challenges of web search engines, but still leave much room for improvement. In this paper, we focus on the inverted index traversal on document-sorted indexes and the optimization technique called dynamic pruning, which can efficiently reduce the hardware computational resources required. We propose another novel exhaustive index traversal scheme called largest scores first(LSF) retrieval, in which the candidates are first selected in the posting list of important query terms with the largest upper bound scores and then fully scored with the contribution of the remaining query terms. The scheme can effectively reduce the memory consumption of existing term-at-atime(TAAT) and the candidate selection cost of existing document-at-a-time(DAAT) retrieval at the expense of revisiting the posting lists of the remaining query terms. Preliminary analysis and implementation show comparable performance between LSF and the two well-known baselines. To further reduce the number of postings that need to be revisited, we present efficient rank safe dynamic pruning techniques based on LSF, including two important optimizations called list omitting(LSF_LO) and partial scoring(LSF_PS) that make full use of query term importance. Finally, experimental results with the TREC GOV2 collection show that our new index traversal approaches reduce the query latency by almost 27% over the WAND baseline and produce slightly better results compared with the Max Score baseline, while returning the same results as exhaustive evaluation.

Optimizing partitioning strategies for faster inverted index compression

The inverted index is a key component for search engines to manage billions of documents and quickly respond to users' queries. Whereas substantial effort has been devoted to reducing space occupancy and decoding speed, the encoding speed when constructing the index has been overlooked. Partitioning the index aligning to its clustered distribution can effectively minimize the compressed size while accelerating its construction procedure. In this study, we introduce compression speed as one criterion to evaluate compression techniques, and thoroughly analyze the performance of different partitioning strategies. Optimizations are also proposed to enhance state-of-the-art methods with faster compression speed and more flexibility to partition an index. Experiments show that our methods offer a much better compression speed, while retaining an excellent space occupancy and decompression speed, networks.

Correlation Renormalized and Induced Spin-Orbit Coupling

Interplay of spin-orbit coupling(SOC) and electron correlation generates a bunch of emergent quantum phases and transitions, especially topological insulators and topological transitions. We find that electron correlation will induce extra large SOC in multi-orbital systems under atomic SOC and change ground state topological properties. Using the Hartree–Fock mean field theory, phase diagrams of px/py orbital ionic Hubbard model on honeycomb lattice are well studied. In general, correction of strength of SOC δλ ∝(U′-J). Due to breaking down of rotation symmetry, form of SOC on multi-orbital materials is also changed under correlation. If a non-interacting system is close to fermionic instability, spontaneous generalized SOC can also be found. Using renormalization group, SOC is leading instability close to quadratic band-crossing point. Mean fields at quadratic band-crossing point are also studied.

Numerical and experimental investigation into the evolution of the shock wave when a muzzle jet impacts a constrained moving body

Chemomechanical Properties of Electrospun Polyvinyl Acetate(PVAc)Fiber Mat and its Application in Water-Triggered Self-folding

Environmental-stimulus-triggered self-folding mechanisms have found promising applications in many engineering ***,a water-activated self-folding procedure has been designed by using the electrospun polyvinyl acetate(PVAc)fiber mat which contains high tensile residual stresses in the vitrified fibers during the spinning *** water permeation initiates plasticization of PVAc fiber mat and leads to a material *** water diffusion starts at the top surface of a PVAc sheet,a shrinkage variation along the diffusion pathway forms a bending hinge on the sheet,which has been demonstrated in 3D origami *** capture the water-triggered plasticization mechanism and chemomechanical coupling deformation compatibility,a consistent finite deformation viscoplastic model is developed for the PVAc fiber mat under coupled chemomechanical loading *** residual stress and‘fixed’strain are modeled through the unrecoverable plastic strain in the PVAc fiber *** water permeates into the PVAc fiber mat,the induced increase in mixing entropy lowers the glass transition temperature of the material,and results in a gradual relaxation of the fixed viscoplastic strain.A non-Fickian diffusion model suitable for glassy material is adopted to capture the water permeation in the PVAc fiber *** calibrated and validated by a series of experiments,the proposed model is implemented in ABAQUS software to simulate the water-activated self-folding of PVAc *** numerical example for a typical origami design suggests a promising engineering application prospect.

We report a highly band-selective,bifunctional meta-surface that serves as an ultra-wide perfect absorber for near-infrared(NIR)band and a visible-band sensor,based on a rational design strategy involving stacking and/or grating of metals,inorganic insulators,and stimuli-responsive ***-based hydrogel was utilized as a layer of stimuli-responsive insulator,which is allowed to reversibly swell and collapse in one dimension in response to stimuli such as ambient temperature and chemical environment to empower the sensing capability in the visible band,with the perfect absorption in NIR region *** average absorption reached an impressive 99.4%from 780 to 2500 nm,which is attributed to the synergy of localized surface plasmon(LSP),propagating surface plasmon(PSP),and cavity *** reported bi-functional meta-surface is particularly attractive for band-selective solar energy harvesting,naked-eye sensing,and adaptive imaging.

Insight into the behavior at the hygroscopicity and interface of the hydrophobic imidazolium-based ionic liquids

How to completely remove the water from ionic liquids(ILs)is difficult for researchers because of the hygroscopicity of *** order to study the hygroscopicity of ILs,two kinds of ILs,1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate([Bmim][PF6])and 1-Butyl-3-methylimidazolium Bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)([Bmim][NTf_(2)])were investigated by molecular dynamics ***[Bmim][PF6]and[Bmim][NTf_(2)]are hydrophobic,both of the ILs could absorb water molecules from the *** this work,the process of absorbing water from the vapor phase was studied,and the water molecules could disperse into the *** was observed with increasing the water *** the absorbed water increases obviously,the amount of free water and small cluster in the ILs does not change significantly and always stays at a certain *** amount of free water and small cluster in[Bmim][PF6]is more than that in[Bmim][NTf_(2)],which is consistent with their *** addition,the liquid-vacuum and liquid–liquid interfaces of the ILs were simulated and analyzed in *** number density distribution and angle distribution indicated that[Bmim]+cations arrangement regularly at the IL-vacuum *** butyl chain point to the vacuum,while the imidazlium ring is close to the IL phase region and perpendicular to the *** at the IL-water interface,the cations and anions are disordered.
