Clay minerals and geochemistry of the bottom sediments in the northwestern East China Sea

Clay minerals of 34 sediments collected from the northwestern continental shelf of the East China Sea have been determined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The clay mineral distribution is mainly controlled by the sediment source and the dominant circulation pattern. The predominant clay mineral in our study area is illite comprising more than 67% of the whole clay fraction. The highest concentration of illite （〉68%） is found in the southeastern offshore parts beyond the reach of terrigenous input from the Jeju Island. It means that these illites are largely transported by the Kuroshio Current from the South China Sea （SCS）. Smectite is highly concentrated in the northwest middle part and in the outer-shelf mud patch. It seems to be due to the high supply of smectite transported from China where fine-grained sediments are discharged from modern and ancient Huanghe （Yellow） River. The relatively high abundant kaolinite is likely derived from the Changjiang （Yangtze） River via the Taiwan Warm Current. In contrast, large amounts of chlorite and high chlorite/kaolinite ratios occur in the northwestern area, reflecting the transportation by the Yellow Sea Coastal Current from the southern Yellow Sea. The discrimination diagrams clearly show that the sediments in the northwestern East China Sea are ultimately sourced from Chinese rivers, especially from the Huanghe River, whereas the sediment in the northeast part might come from the Jeju Island. The muddy sediments of the Changjiang River＇s submerged delta have much lower 87Sr/S6Sr ratios （0.716 2-0.718 0） than those of the Shandong Peninsular mud wedge （0.721 6-0.724 9）, which are supposed to be originated from the Huanghe River, suggesting the distribution pattern of 87Sr/86Sr ratios as a new tracer to discriminate the provenance of shelf sediments in the study area. Prevention and management of adverse events following COVID-19 vaccination using traditional Korean medicine:An online survey of public health doctors

Major media outlets have run many articles on the COVID-19 *** the public suffers cognitive and emotional effects related to COVID-19 from such reports,we analyzed and reviewed the topics of news *** searched newspaper articles with the term‘COVID-19’term in four Korean daily newspapers from January 20,2020,when thefirst patient in Korea was found,to June 15,*** modeling analysis was conducted through text mining using *** themes were found:“Changes in people’s everyday life,”“Socio-economic shock,”“Trends in infection,”“Role of the government and business,”and“Increased psychological anxiety,”which all showed sharp increases in articles from mid-February to early March and then *** the increased psychological anxiety people suffered from the COVID-19 pandemic,this topic showed the fewest articles.“Changes in people’s everyday life”showed the most,focusing attention on stimulating lifestyle articles of general *** the COVID-19 pandemic can lead to mental health problems due to severe changes and isolation in everyday life,a comprehensive response to the news focusing on the impact on the mental health of the population around the world should be made.

One-step method to enhance biotribological properties and biocompatibility of DLC coating by ion beam irradiation

A one-step method was developed to create a highly biocompatible micropatterned surface on a diamond-like carbon(DLC)through irradiation with a nitrogen ion beam and thus enhance the biocompatibility of osseointegrated surfaces and biotribological performance of articular *** biocompatibility and biotribological mechanisms were analyzed in terms of the structure and morphology of *** was demonstrated that a layer enriched in sp^(3) C-N bonds was formed on the surface of the DLC after nitrogen ion beam ***,with an increase in the radiation dose,the content of sp^(3) C-N on the DLC surface increased significantly,and the biocompatibility was positively correlated with *** adhesion of the MC3T3 osteoblasts increased significantly from 32%to 86%under an irradiation dose of 8×10^(15) ions/cm^(2).In contrast,the micropattern had a significant negative effect on the adhesion of the osteoblasts as it physically hindered cell expansion and *** micropattern with a depth of 37 nm exhibited good friction properties,and the coefficient of friction was reduced by 21%at relatively high speeds.

Dynamic skin deformation simulation using musculoskeletal model and soft tissue dynamics

Deformation of skin and muscle is essential for bringing an animated character to life. This deformation is difficult to animate in a realistic fashion using traditional techniques because of the subtlety of the skin deformations that must move appropriately for the character design. In this paper, we present an algorithm that generates natural, dynamic, and detailed skin deformation(movement and jiggle) from joint angle data sequences. The algorithm has two steps: identification of parameters for a quasi-static muscle deformation model, and simulation of skin deformation. In the identification step, we identify the model parameters using a musculoskeletal model and a short sequence of skin deformation data captured via a dense marker set. The simulation step first uses the quasi-static muscle deformation model to obtain the quasi-static muscle shape at each frame of the given motion sequence(slow jump). Dynamic skin deformation is then computed by simulating the passive muscle and soft tissue dynamics modeled as a mass–spring–damper system. Having obtained the model parameters, we can simulate dynamic skin deformations for subjects with similar body types from new motion data. We demonstrate our method by creating skin deformations for muscle co-contraction and external impacts from four different behaviors captured as skeletal motion capture data. Experimental results show that the simulated skin deformations are quantitatively and qualitatively similar to measured actual skin deformations.

BACKGROUND Acromioclavicular joint(ACJ)space narrowing has been considered to be an important diagnostic image parameter of ACJ osteoarthritis(ACJO).However,the morphology of the ACJ space is irregular because of osteophyte formation,subchondral irregularity,capsular distention,sclerosis,and ***,we created the ACJ cross-sectional area(ACJCSA)as a new diagnostic image parameter to assess the irregular morphologic changes of the *** To hypothesize that the ACJCSA is a new diagnostic image parameter for *** ACJ samples were obtained from 35 patients with ACJO and 30 healthy individuals who underwent shoulder magnetic resonance(S-MR)imaging that revealed no evidence of *** coronal,T2-weighted,fat-suppressed SMR images were acquired at the ACJ level from the two *** measured the ACJCSA and the ACJ space width(ACJSW)at the ACJ on the S-MR images using our imaging analysis *** ACJCSA was measured as the cross-sectional area of the *** ACJSW was measured as the narrowest point between the acromion and the *** The average ACJCSA was 39.88±10.60 mm;in the normal group and 18.80±5.13 mm;in the ACJO *** mean ACJSW was 3.51±0.58 mm in the normal group and 2.02±0.48 mm in the ACJO *** individuals had significantly lower ACJCSA and ACJSW than the healthy *** operating characteristic curve analyses demonstrated that the most suitable ACJCSA cutoff score was 26.14 mm^(2),with 91.4%sensitivity and 90.0%*** The optimal ACJSW cutoff score was 2.37 mm,with 88.6%sensitivity and 96.7%*** though both the ACJCSA and ACJSW were significantly associated with ACJO,the ACJCSA was a more sensitive diagnostic image parameter.
