Local Meteorological and Synoptic Characteristics of Fogs Formed over Incheon International Airport in the West Coast of Korea

Fogs observed over Incheon international airport （IIA） in the west coast of Korea from January 2002 to August 2006 are classified into categories of coastal fog, cold sea fog, and warm sea fog based on the areal extent of the fogs and the difference between the air temperature （T ） and the SST, i.e., cold sea fog if TSST = T -SST 〉 0~0C and warm sea fog if TSST 〈 0~0C. The numbers of coastal, cold, and warm sea fog cases are 64, 26, and 9. Coastal fogs form most frequently in winter, while cold sea fogs occur mostly in summer and warm sea fogs are observed from January to May but not in November and December. On average the air gets colder by 1.6~0C during the three hours leading up to the coastal fog formation, and an additional cooling of 1.1~0C occurs during the fog. The change in the dew point temperature （T_d） is minimal except during the fog （0.6~0C）. Decreases in T for the cold and warm sea fogs are relatively smaller. The average Td is higher than SST during the cold sea fog periods but this T_d is more than 4~0C higher than that for the corresponding non-fog days, suggesting that cold sea fogs be formed by the cooling of already humid air （i.e., T_d〉SST）. Increases of T_d are significant during the warm sea fog periods （1.4~0C）, implying that effcient moisture supply is essential to warm sea fog formation. Four major synoptic patterns are identified in association with the observed fogs. The most frequent is a north Pacific high that accounts for 38% of cases. Surface or upper inversions are present in 77%, 69%, and 81% of the fog periods for coastal, cold, and warm sea fogs, respectively.

Most organic electrode materials(OEMs)for rechargeable batteries employ n-type redox centers,whose redox potentials are intrinsically limited<3.0 V versus Li^(+)/***,p-type materials possessing high redox potentials experience low specific capacities because they are capable of only a single redox reaction within the stable electrochemical window of typical ***,we report 5,11-diethyl-5,11-dihydroindolo[3,2-b]carbazole(DEICZ)as a novel p-type OEM,exhibiting stable plateaus at high discharge potentials of 3.44 and 4.09 V versus Li^(+)/***,the second redox potential of DEICZ is within the stable electrochemical *** mechanism of the double redox reaction is investigated using both theoretical calculations and experimental measurements,including density functional theory calculations,ex situ electron spin resonance,and X-ray photoelectron ***,hybridization with single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWCNT)improves the cycle stability and rate performance of DEICZ owing to theπ-πinteractions between the SWCNT and co-planar molecular structure of DEICZ,preventing the dissolution of active materials into the *** DEICZ/SWCNT composite electrode maintains 70.4%of its initial specific capacity at 1-C rate and also exhibits high-rate capability,even performing well at 100-C ***,we demonstrate its potential for flexible batteries after applying 1000 bending stresses to the composite electrode.

Safety assessment of condensed phosphate intake from fishery and processed marine food products in Korea with respect to gender,age,and region

Condensed phosphates are used as food additives,especially in marine products and meat,to improve food *** import and consumption of fishery and processed marine food products in Republic of Korea have reportedly increased by~5 per cent ***,processed marine food products are often intentionally adulterated with excessive amounts of condensed phosphates to increase their *** intake of condensed phosphates via consuming processed marine food products can lead to various adverse effects on human health due to anionic ***,we conducted a safety assessment of condensed phosphates in 14 types of fishery and processed marine food products in Korea for the first *** analysis of various factors including gender,age,and region was also performed,and the risk level of exposure for each group was *** assessments by age and gender indicated that infants were at the highest *** the regional safety assessment,Chungnam,the most inland region,showed the lowest *** both the general and the high-intake groups(95th percentile)in all classifications,the risk was lower(<20 per cent)than the international standard,and the phosphorus content of the 14 types of processed marine products in Korea was confirmed to be safe for human consumption.

A nanofilter composed of carbon nanotube-silver composites for virus removal and antibacterial activity improvement

We have developed a new nanofilter using a carbon nanotube-silver composite material that is capable of efficiently removing waterborne viruses and *** nanofilter was subjected to plasma surface treatment to enhance its flow rate,which was improved by approximately 62%.Nanoscale pores were obtained by fabricating a carbon nanotube network and using nanoparticle fixation technology for the removal of *** pore size of the nanofilter was approximately 38 nm and the measured flow rate ranged from 21.0 to 97.2 L/（min·m^2）under a pressure of 1–6 kgf/cm^2 when the amount of loaded carbon nanotube-silver composite was 1.0 mg/cm^*** nanofilter was tested against Polio-,Noro-,and Coxsackie viruses using a sensitive real-time polymerase chain reaction assay to detect the presence of viral particles within the *** trace of viruses was found to flow through the nanofilter with carbon nanotube-silver composite loaded above 0.8 mg/cm^***,the surface of the filter has antibacterial properties to prevent bacterial clogging due to the presence of 20-nm silver nanoparticles,which were synthesized on the carbon nanotube surface.

FALSE FAILURE RETURNS： OPTIMAL PRICING AND RETURN POLICIES IN A DUAL-CHANNEL SUPPLY CHAIN

This paper aim is to examine the optimal pricing and return policies for false failure returns in a dual-channel supply chain. Four prevailing return policies in which a manufacturer both operates an E-shop and sells its product through a brick-and-mortar retailer are analyzed, i.e. （I） the manufacturer handlings E-shop＇s returns, while the retailer addresses brick-and-mortar store＇s returns （NR）; （II） the retailer tackles the whole （both E-shop＇s and brick-and-mortar store＇s） returns （ORR）; （III） the manufacturer tackles the whole returns （ORM）; and （IV） the manufacturer and the retailer are jointly responsible for the whole returns （RRM）. Firstly, the optimal pricing and return policies comparing these four scenarios under uniform-pricing strategy are presented. Our conclusions show that the ORR is an optimal return policy. Compared with the NR, consumers will get a lower product pricing under the ORR and a higher product pricing under the ORM. With regard to the RRM, the product pricing is depended on consumer preference, return-rates of the E-shop and the brick-and-mortar store. Then, the optimal pricing and return policies are analyzed under differential-pricing strategy by conducting two-stage sequential games between the manufacturer and the retailer. The findings show that if consumers in the market prefer to purchase via the E-shop, the ORR is an optimal return policy. Otherwise, the NR is the optimal return policy. Compared with the NR, the ORR retailer＇s product pricing will rely on the retailer＇s and the manufacturer＇s return-costs; the RRM retailer＇s product pricing will depend on the return-costs of the retailer and the manufacturer, the return-rates of the E-shop and the brick-and-mortar store and so on. Finally, the influences of the manufacturer and the retailer establishing a Buy-back contract are discussed. In the era of miniaturization,the one-dimensional nanostructures presented numerous possibilities to realize operational nanosensors and devices by tuning their electrical transport *** size reduction,the physical properties of materials become extremely challenging to characterize and understand due to the complex interplay among structures,surface properties,strain effects,distribution of grains,and their internal coupling *** this report,we demonstrate the fabrication of a single metal-carbon composite nanowire inside a diamondanvil-cell and examine the in situ pressure-driven electrical transport *** nanowire manifests a rapid and reversible pressure dependence of the strong nonlinear electrical conductivity with significant zero-bias differential conduction revealing a quantum tunneling dominant carrier transport *** fully rationalize our observations on the basis of a metal-carbon framework in a highly compressed nanowire corroborating a quantum-tunneling boundary,in addition to a classical percolation boundary that exists beyond the percolation *** structural phase progressions were monitored to evidence the pressure-induced shape reconstruction of the metallic grains and modification of their intergrain interactions for successful explanation of the electrical transport *** pronounced sensitivity of electrical conductivity to an external pressure stimulus provides a rationale to design low-dimensional advanced pressure sensing devices.

Synchronous quintuple primary gastrointestinal tract malignancies: Case report

Multiple primary malignancy is defined as two or more malignancies detected in an individual person. In particular, synchronous quintuple primary malignancy is extremely rare. A 52-year-old male with anal pain and intermittent blood-tinged stool was diagnosed with malignancies in the stomach, jejunum, ascending colon, transverse colon and rectum. He underwent a subtotal gastrectomy, segmental resection of the jejunum and total protocolectomy with end ileostomy. The postoperative pathologic findings were moderate differentiated gastric adenocarcinoma (pT1bN0M0, pStageIA), combined adenocarcinoma and neuroendocrine carcinoma of the jejunum (pT3N0M0, pStageIIA), three mucinous adenocarcinoma of the ascending colon (pT3N0M0, pStageIIA), transverse colon (pT1N0M0, pStageI) and rectum (pT3N1aM0, pStageIIIB). The tumors did not lack MLH-1 and MSH-2 expression, as the markers (bat26, D5S346, bat25, D2S123) suggest MSI-H presence. Adjuvant chemoradiotherapy was started according to regimen, FOLFOX 4 for advanced rectal cancer. Six years post-operation, the patient is currently attending regular follow-ups without recurrence or metastasis.

Acceleration of aging behavior and improvement of mechanical properties of extruded AZ80 alloy through(10–12) twinning

The effects of pre-existing {10–12} extension twins on the precipitation behavior of an extruded AZ80 material during aging and on its mechanical properties after peak aging are investigated. The material containing {10–12} twins-which are formed by compression before aging(twinned material)-has a finer grain size and higher dislocation density than the extruded material. Although the peak hardnesses of the twinned and extruded materials are almost the same, the time to reach the peak hardness is considerably shorter in the former material than in the latter(4 h and 24 h, respectively). In the twinned material, the high dislocation density of the {10–12} twins promotes continuous precipitation, which results in the formation of numerous fine Mg17Al12precipitates within the twins in the early stage of *** formation of these continuous precipitates reduces the driving force for discontinuous precipitation, which consequently suppresses the formation and growth of coarse Mg17Al12precipitates at the grain boundaries. Despite its shorter peak-aging time, the 4 h-peak-aged twinned material shows higher tensile strength and elongation than the 24 h-peak-aged extruded material. These higher mechanical properties of the former material are attributed primarily to the presence of more abundant fine continuous precipitates, which are effective in strengthening the material, and less abundant coarse discontinuous precipitates, which can act as crack initiation sites. These results demonstrate that the introduction of {10–12} twins into wrought Mg–Al-based alloys can accelerate the Mg17Al12precipitation kinetics considerably and improve the strength and ductility of the peak-aged alloys simultaneously.

AIM:To report CT and MR imaging findings of ocular adnexal mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma associated with IgG4-related disease(IgG4-MALT lymphoma),a rare but clinically important complication of ocular adnexal IgG4-related ***:We retrospectively reviewed all cases of histologically confirmed ocular adnexal IgG4-related disease at three ter tiary and one secondary referral centers,between February 2003 and December *** cases of histopathologically diagnosed IgG4-MALT lymphoma were *** and MR images were analyzed by consensus of two experienced head and neck ***:Lacrimal glands were the main site of involvement in all seven *** lesions typically showed well-demarcated margins,iso-to hyperattenuation on precontrast CT,T2 hypo-to isointensity,T1 isointensity,and homogenous internal architecture with homogenous enhancement *** were mostly hyperdense and isointense to normal extraocular muscles on postcontrast CT and MR images,***:Unlike in typical ocular adnexal IgG4-related disease,T2 isointensity and hyperattenuation on precontrast CT images were noted in some IgG4-MALT lymphoma *** the findings may be nonspecific,the possibility of accompanying MALT lymphoma may need to be considered,when ocular adnexal lesions in patients clinically suspected of having IgG4-related disease are refractory to glucocorticoids and show T2 isointensity and hyperattenuation on precontrast CT for the optimal management of the ***,this is a case series of a very rare complication of ocular adnexal IgG4-related disease,and thus caution is warranted to generalize the conclusion.

Dually-functionalized Ni-rich layered oxides for high-capacity lithium-ion batteries

Layered lithium nickel-cobalt-manganese oxides(NCM)have been highlighted as advanced cathode materials for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs);however,their low interfacial stability must be overcome to ensure stable cycling performance of the *** this work,we propose a one-step surface modification method that uses a task-specific precursor,N,N,N,N-tetraethylsulfamide(NTESA),to improve interfacial stability of Ni-rich NCM cathode *** unstable surface properties of Ni-rich NCM cathode material are improved by embedding an artificial cathode-electrolyte interphase(CEI)layer on the cathode surface by heat treatment of the Ni-rich NCM cathode material with an NTESA precursor at low *** material analyses indicate that this approach allows the formation of amine-and sulfone-functionalized CEI layers on the surface of Ni-rich NCM cathode material without changing the layered structure of the cathode ***-functionalized Ni-rich NCM cathode materials exhibit improved cycling retention after 100 cycles:for example,a cell cycled with a 3.0 NTESA-modified NCM811 cathode presents the highest retention ratio of 88.3%,whereas a cell cycled with a non-functionalized NCM811 cathode suffers from rapid fading of the cycling performance(68.4%).Our additional SEM,XPS,and EIS analyses indicate that electrolyte decomposition is suppressed during electrochemical cycling,thereby leading to smaller increases in the internal ***-MS analyses of the cycled anodes also indicate that the NTESA-based artificial CEI layer inhibits the dissolution of transition metal components from the Ni-rich NCM cathode materials,thereby contributing to an improved overall electrochemical performance of the cell.
