AIm To investigate the long-term effect of dietary education on a low fermentable oligosaccharide, disaccharide and polyol(FODmAP) diet on irritable bowel syndrome(IBS) symptoms and quality of life(Qo L).mETHODS Participants with IBS(Rome III) were randomized to two groups. Group I commenced a low FODmAP diet at baseline. At three months, group II, so far a comparator group, crossed over to a low FODmAP diet while group I started re-challenging foods. All patients completed the IBS SSS(IBS symptom severity scoring system, 0-500 points increasing with severity), IBS Qo L questionnaire(0-100 increasing with Qo L), a FODmAP specific food frequency questionnaire and provided a stool sample at baseline, three and six months for microbiome *** Fifty participants were enrolled into group I(n = 23) or group II(n = 27). Participants in both groups were similar in baseline values but with more men in group I. There was a significantly lower IBS SSS(275.6 ± 63.6 to 128.8 ± 82.5 vs 246.8 ± 71.1 to 203.6 ± 70.1)(P mo. The reduced IBS SSS was sustained at 6 mo in group I(160 ± 102) and replicated in group II(124 ± 76). Fiber intake decreased on the low FODmAP diet(33 ± 17 g/d to 21 ± 8 g/d)(P mAP containing foods increased again to 27 ± 9 g/d. There was no change seen in the intestinal microbiome when participants adopted a low FODmAP *** This study demonstrated that a reduction in FODmAPs improves symptoms in IBS and this improvement can be maintained while reintroducing FODmAPs.

In large Solar Energetic Particle （SEP） events, ions can be accelerated at coronal mass ejection （CmE）-driven shocks to very high energies. The spectra of heavy ions in many large SEP events show features such as roll-overs or spectral breaks. In some events when the spectra are plotted in terms of energy/nucleon, they can be shifted relative to each other to make the spectral breaks align. The amount of shift is charge to mass ratio （Q/A） dependent and varies from event to event. This can be understood if the spectra of heavy ions are organized by the diffusion coefficients （cohen et al. 2005）. In the work of Li et al. （2009）, the Q/A dependence of the scaling is related to shock geometry when the CmE-driven shock is close to the Sun. For events where multiple in-situ spacecraft observations exist, one may expect that different spacecraft are connected to different portions of the CmE-driven shock that have different shock geometries, therefore yielding different Q/A dependence. In this work, we examine one SEP event which occurred on 2013 November 4. We study the Q/A dependence of the energy scaling for heavy ion spectra using helium, oxygen and iron ions. Observations from STEREO-A, STEREO-B and ACE are examined. We find that the scalings are different for different spacecraft. We suggest that this is because ACE, STEREO- A and STEREO-B are connected to different parts of the shock that have different shock geometries. Our analysis indicates that studying the Q/A scaling of in-situ particle spectra can serve as a powerful tool to remotely examine the shock geometry for large SEP events.

Developing point convolution for irregular point clouds to extract deep features remains challenging. Current methods evaluate the response by computing point set distances which account only for the spatial alignment between two point sets, but not quite for their underlying shapes. Without a shapeaware response, it is hard to characterize the 3 D geometry of a point cloud efficiently with a compact set of kernels. In this paper, we advocate the use of modified Hausdorff distance as a shape-aware distance measure for calculating point convolutional responses. The technique we present, coined Hausdorff point convolution(HPC), is shape-aware. We show that HPC constitutes a powerful point feature learning with a rather compact set of only four types of geometric priors as kernels. We further develop an HPC-based deep neural network(HPC-DNN). Task-specific learning can be achieved by tuning the network weights for combining the shortest distances between the input and the kernel point sets. We also realize hierarchical feature learning by designing a multi-kernel HPC for multi-scale feature encoding. Extensive experiments demonstrate that HPC-DNN outperforms strong point convolution baselines(e.g., KPConv), achieving 2.8%m Io U performance boost on S3 DIS and 1.5% on Semantic KITTI for semantic segmentation task.

Butein,a rare chalcone found in the toxic plant Toxicodendron vernicifluum,has been shown to regulate glucose homeostasis via inhibition of the nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit beta(IKKβ)/nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)pathway in the ***,we investigated whether the nonpoisonous plant Dahlia pinnata could be a source of butein as a potential treatment for type 2 diabetes(T2D).In mice fed a high-fat diet(HFD)to induce glucose intolerance,an oral *** petal extract improved glucose tolerance at doses of 3.3 mg/kg body weight and 10 mg/kg body ***,this effect was not mediated by butein alone but by butein combined with the closely related flavonoids,sulfuretin and/or ***,the extract improved systemic insulin *** of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase to block insulin signaling in the brain abrogated the glucoregulatory effect of the orally administered *** extract reinstated central insulin signaling and normalized astrogliosis in the hypothalamus of HFD-fed *** NF-κB reporter zebrafish to determine IKKβ/NF-κB activity,a potent anti-inflammatory action of the extract was found.A randomized controlled crossover clinical trial on participants with predia-betes or T2D confirmed the safety and efficacy of the extract in *** conclusion,we identified an extract from the flower petals of *** as a novel treatment option for T2D,potentially targeting the central regulation of glucose homeostasis as a root cause of the disease.

Computer-aided sperm analysis： a useful tool to evaluate patient＇s response to varicocelectomy

Preoperative and postoperative sperm parameter values from infertile men with varicocele were analyzed by computer-aided sperm analysis （CASA） to assess if sperm characteristics improved after varicocelectomy. Semen samples of men with proven fertility （n = 38） and men with varicocele-related infertility （n = 61） were also analyzed. Conventional semen analysis was performed according to WHO （2010） criteria and a CASA system was employed to assess kinetic parameters and sperm concentration. Seminal parameters values in the fertile group were very far above from those of the patients, either before or after surgery. No significant improvement in the percentage normal sperm morphology （P = 0. 10）, sperm concentration （P = 0.52）, total sperm count （P = 0.76）, subjective motility （%）（P = 0.97） nor kinematics （P = 0.30） was observed after varicocelectomy when all groups were compared. Neither was significant improvement found in percentage normal sperm morphology （P = 0.91）, sperm concentration （P =0. 10）, total sperm count （P = 0.89） or percentage motility （P = 0.77） after varicocelectomy in paired comparisons of preoperative and postoperative data. Analysis of paired samples revealed that the total sperm count （P = 0.01） and most sperm kinetic parameters： curvilinear velocity （P = 0.002）, straight-line velocity （P = 0.0004）, average path velocity （P = 0.0005）, linearity （P = 0.02）, and wobble （P = 0.006） improved after surgery. CASA offers the potential for accurate quantitative assessment of each patient＇s response to varicocelectomy.

Litter size and birth weights are limited by uterine capacity, defined as the ability of the uterus to maintain the appropriate development of some number of conceptuses. Uterine capacity is the result of the combined effects of uterine, placental and embryo/fetal function. The number of living conceptuses that the uterus is capable of supporting is greater during early gestation compared to later gestation. Plots of log fetal weight versus log placental weight also indicate that fetal weights are less sensitive to reduced placental weight （and therefore reduced intrauterine space） in early gestation compared to late gestation. However, even in late gestation, mechanisms still exist that maintain fetal growth when the size of the placenta is reduced. One such mechanism is likely to be improved development of the folded placental-epithelial/maternal-epithelial bilayer. Fold depth, and therefore the maternal fetal interactive surface, increases as gestation advances and is greater in placenta from smal fetuses. On the fetal side of the placenta, the epithelial bilayer is embedded in stromal tissue. Glycosaminoglycans are major components of stroma, including hyaluronan and heparan sulfate. Hyaluronidases and heparanases are present within placental tissues, and likely play roles in modification of stromal components to facilitate fold development. Glycosaminoglycans are polymers of forms of glucose （glucosamine, glucuronic acid, iduronic acid） suggesting that glycosaminoglycan synthesis may compete with the glucose needs of the developing fetus. Pig conceptuses are fructogenic, such that a substantial portion of glucose transferred from mother to fetus is converted to fructose. Fructose is an intermediate product in the synthesis of glucosamine from glucose, and glucosamine is linked to regulation of trophoblast cell proliferation through regulation of mTOR.
