Bremsstrahlung—the spontaneous emission of broadband radiation from free electrons that are deflected by atomic nuclei—contributes to the majority of X-rays emitted from X-ray tubes and used in applications ranging from medical imaging to semiconductor chip ***,we show that the bremsstrahlung intensity can be enhanced significantly—by more than three orders of magnitude—through shaping the electron wavefunction to periodically overlap with atoms in crystalline ***,we show how to shape the bremsstrahlung X-ray emission pattern into arbitrary angular emission profiles for purposes such as unidirectionality and ***,we find that these enhancements and shaped emission profiles cannot be attributed solely to the spatial overlap between the electron probability distribution and the atomic centers,as predicted by the paraxial and nonrecoil theory for free electron light *** work highlights an unprecedented regime of free electron light emission where electron waveshaping provides multi-dimensional control over practical radiation processes like *** results pave the way towards greater versatility in table-top X-ray sources and improved fundamental understanding of quantum electron-light interactions.

Air-side economizers are increasingly used to take advantage of“free-cooling”in data centers with the intent of reducing the carbon footprint of ***,they can introduce outdoor pollutants to indoor environment of data centers and cause corrosion damage to the information technology *** evaluate the reliability of information technology equipment under various thermal and air-pollution conditions,a mechanistic model based on multi-ion transport and chemical reactions was *** model was used to predict cu corrosion caused by cl_(2)-containing pollutant *** also accounted for the effects of temperature(25℃and 28℃),relative humidity(50%,75%,and 95%),and *** also identified higher air temperature as a corrosion barrier and higher relative humidity as a corrosion accelerator,which agreed well with the experimental *** average root mean square error of the prediction was 13.7Å.The model can be used to evaluate the thermal guideline for data centers design and operation when cl_(2)is present based on pre-established acceptable risk of corrosion in data centers’environment.

In this study the changes of tropical cyclone(Tc)size from 2001 to 2021 are analyzed based on linear and quadratic curve fittings of the National Hurricane center(NHc)/Joint Typhoon warning center(JTwc)best track data,based on the radius of maximum wind(RMw)and the average radius of 34-kt wind(AR34),in three oceanic basins of the North Atlantic(NATL),the western North Pacific(wPAc)and the Eastern North Pacific(EPAc).The computations are done separately for two categories of tropical cyclones:tropical storms(TS)and hurricanes(HT).Size changes of landfalling and non-landfalling Tcs are also *** show that there is a great inter-basin variability among the changes in Tc *** conclusions include:1)overall,the inner cores of TSs have become larger in all three basins,with the increasing tendencies being significant in the NATL and wAPc,while those of HTs mostly get smaller or remain similar;2)meanwhile,comparatively large inter-basin differences are observed for the Tc outer core sizes,and the sizes of landfalling Tcs;3)particularly,a significant decrease in landfalling HT outer core size is observed over the EPAc;4)in contrast,significant increases in landfalling TS inner core size are found over the NATL and *** presented analysis results could benefit future research about Tc forecasts,storm surge studies,and the cyclone climate and its changes.

In hot climates,the large amount of cooling load in electric vehicle(EV)results in a lot of battery energy consumption,leading the decrease of driving *** the widespread application of windows in EV,the electrochromic glass(Ec)shows great prospect in lowering the cooling ***,researches on the application of Ec in EV lack the consideration of both passive cooling measures and passenger comfort,which limits the further application of *** this paper,we proposed an idea combining the novel techniques of both electrochromism and radiative *** fluid dynamics(cFD)is modeled to simulate the application of electrochromic and radiative cooling coupled smart windows in hot parking conditions,exploring the improvement effect of the window on the thermal environment,comfort and energy saving of the *** results indicate that,under the intense sunlight with an outdoor temperature of 33℃,activating the air conditioning to maintain an average interior temperature of 26℃,the coupled windows reduced the cooling capacity of the air conditioning by 762 w compared to regular windows,which can further increase the range of ***,compared to simple electrochromic fully colored glass,the integration of radiative cooling technology can lower the window surface temperature by up to 10.7℃.Moreover,compared to regular windows,the coupled windows lowered the standard effective temperature(SET*)for passengers by approximately 7℃,significantly improving *** research findings are expected to provide guidance for optimizing window design and enhancing the performance of EV.

Objective:To correlate the utility of the Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery(FLS)manual skills program with the Objective Structured Assessment of Technical Skills(OSATS)global rating scale in evaluating operative ***:The Asian Urological Surgery Training and Educational Group(AUSTEG)Laparoscopic Upper Tract Surgery course implemented and validated the FLS program for its usage in laparoscopic surgical ***’basic laparoscopic skills were assessed using three different training models(peg transfer,precision cutting,and intra-corporeal suturing).They also performed live porcine laparoscopic surgery at the same *** surgery skills were assessed by blinded faculty using the OSATS rating ***:From March 2016 to March 2019,a total of 81 certified urologists participated in the course,with a median of 5 years of post-residency *** differences in task time did not reach statistical significance,those with more surgical experience were visibly faster at completing the peg transfer and intra-corporeal suturing FLS ***,they took longer to complete the precision cutting task than participants with less *** OSATS scores correlated weakly with all three FLS tasks(peg transfer time:r=0.331,r^(2)=0.110;precision cutting time:r=0.240,r^(2)=0.058;suturing with intracorporeal knot time:r=0.451,r^(2)=0.203).conclusion:FLS task parameters did not correlate strongly with OSATS globing rating scale *** FLS task models demonstrated strong validity,it is important to assimilate the inconsistencies when benchmarking technical proficiency against real-life operative competence,as evaluated by FLS and OSATS,respectively.

Each physical process in a numerical weather prediction(NwP)system may have many different parameterization *** studies have shown that the performance of different physical parameterization schemes varies with the weather situation to be ***,it is necessary to select a suitable combination of physical parameterization schemes according to the variation of weather ***,it is rather difficult to identify an optimal combination among millions of possible parameterization scheme *** study applied a simple genetic algorithm(SGA)to optimizing the combination of parameterization schemes in NwP models for typhoon *** feasibility of SGA was verified with the simulation of Typhoon Mujigae(2015)by using the weather Research and Forecasting(wRF)model and Typhoon Higos(2020)by using the coupled Ocean–Atmosphere–wave–Sediment Transport(cOAwST)modeling *** results show that SGA can efficiently obtain the optimal combination of *** Typhoon Mujigae(2015),the optimal combination can be found from the 1,304,576 possible combinations by running only 488 *** results can be obtained for Typhoon Higos(2020).compared to the default combination proposed by the cOAwST model system,the optimal combination scheme significantly improves the simulation of typhoon track and *** study provides a feasible way to search for the optimal combinations of physical parameterization schemes in wRF and cOAwST for more accurate typhoon *** can help provide references for future development of NwP models,and for analyzing the coordination and adaptability of different physical process parameterization schemes under specific weather backgrounds.

we propose a new signaling scheme for on-chip optical-electrical-optical artificial neural networks that utilizes orthogonal delay-division multiplexing and pilot-tone-based self-homodyne *** scheme offers a more efficient scaling of the optical power budget with increasing network *** simulations,based on220 nm silicon-on-insulator silicon photonics technology,suggest that the network can support 31×31 neurons,with 961 links and freely programmable weights,using a single 500 m w optical comb and a signal-to-noise ratio of 21.3 d B per ***,it features a low sensitivity to temperature fluctuations,ensuring that it can be operated outside of a laboratory *** demonstrate the network’s effectiveness in nonlinear equalization tasks by training it to equalize a time-interleaved analog-to-digital converter(ADc)architecture,achieving an effective number of bits over 4 over the entire 75 GHz ADc *** anticipate that this network architecture will enable broadband and low latency nonlinear signal processing in practical settings such as ultra-broadband data converters and real-time control systems.

The effects of direct aging treatment(at 300°c for 5 hours)on selective laser melted(SLMed)Al-4.5Mn-1.5Mg-0.9Sc-0.2Zr alloy were investigated in this work,with the microstructure,fatigue behaviors,and fracture characteristics examined to determine the primary cause of fatigue crack *** results revealed that the microstructure of the investigated alloy comprised fine equiaxed and columnar *** aging treatment,a significant number of nano-scaled Al3(Sc,Zr)precipitates were dispersed within the grains,leading to a substantial increase in *** yield strength improved from 431 MPa to 568 MPa,representing an increase of more than 32%,while the fatigue strength improved from 180 MPa to 220 MPa after aging ***,the fracture toughness decreased significantly from 25.1 MPa·√m to 12.3 MPa·√*** results of the fatigue fracture characteristics indicate that the Mn-rich phase and the formation of defects such as pores and poor powder fusion are the sources of fatigue *** direct aging treatment can significantly increase the yield strength,decrease the rate of fatigue crack propagation,and thus improve the fatigue performance,it deteriorates the fracture toughness,and thus shortens the fatigue life of the alloy as well.
