To predict the dendrite morphology and microstructure evolution in the solidification of molten metal,numerically,lattice Boltzmann method(LBM)-cellular automata(CA)model has been developed by integrating the LBM to solve the mass transport by diffusion and convection during solidification and the CA to determine the phase transformation with respect to the solid fraction based on the local equilibrium *** is successfully validated with analytic solutions such as Lipton-Glicksman-Kurz(LGK)model in static melt,and Oseen-Ivantsov solution under the fluid flow conditions in terms of tip radius and velocity of the dendrite *** proposed LBM-CA model does not only describe different types of dendrite formations with respect to various solidification conditions such as temperature gradient and growth rate,but also predict the primary dendrite arm spacing(PDAS)and the secondary dendrite arm spacing(SDAS),quantitatively,in directional solidification(DS)experiment with Ni-based superalloy.

A transparent and antistatic coating material consisting of polymer core-metal shell particle was prepared. As a polymer core, poly(butylacrylate-co-styrene)s ([P(BA-co-sty)s]) with various compositions of butylacrylate and styrene were synthesized by emulsion polymerization. And the effect of comonomer composition on the thermal property of polymer core particle was investigated. By electroless plating method, the nickel particles were formed and deposited on the surface of P(BA-co-Sty) particles to form P(BA-co-Sty) core-nickel shell composite particles. SEM observation confirms that the nickel particles with size of 15 nm are distributed on the surface of the polymer core particles. The surface resistance of P(BA-co-Sty) core-nickel shell composite is 0.8×108Ω/cm2, enough to act as antistatic coating material.

In this study, coral?like yolk–shell?structured NiO/C composite microspheres(denoted as CYS?NiO/C) were prepared using spray pyrolysis. The unique yolk–shell structure was characterized, and the formation mechanism of the structure was proposed. Both the phase separation of the polyvinylpyrrolidone and polystyrene(PS) colloidal solution and the decompo?sition of the size?controlled PS nanobeads in the droplet played crucial roles in the formation of the unique coral?like yolk–shell structure. The CYS?NiO/C microspheres delivered a reversible discharge capacity of 991 mAh g^(-1) after 500 cycles at the current density of 1.0 A g^(-1). The dis?charge capacity of the CYS?NiO/C microspheres after the 1000 th cycle at the current density of 2.0 A g^(-1) was 635 mAh g^(-1), and the capacity retention measured from the second cycle was 91%. The final discharge capacities of the CYS?NiO/C microspheres at the current densities of 0.5, 1.5, 3.0, 5.0, 7.0, and 10.0 A g^(-1) were 753, 648, 560, 490, 440, and 389 mAh g^(-1), respectively. The synergetic e ect of the coral?like yolk–shell structure with well?defined interconnected mesopores and highly conductive carbon resulted in the excellent Li+?ion storage properties of the CYS?NiO/C microspheres.

Statistical Prediction of Heavy Rain in South Korea

This study is aimed at the development of a statistical model for forecasting heavy rain in South Korea. For the 3-hour weather forecast system, the 10 km×10 km area-mean amount of rainfall at 6 stations （Seoul, Daejeon, Gangreung, （Jwangju, Busan, and Jeju） in South Korea are used. And the corresponding 45 synoptic factors generated by the numerical model are used as potential predictors. Four statistical forecast models （linear regression model, logistic regression model, neural network model and decision tree model） for the occurrence of heavy rain are based on the model output statistics （MOS） method. They are separately estimated by the same training data. The thresholds are considered to forecast the occurrence of heavy rain because the distribution of estimated values that are generated by each model is too skewed. The results of four models are compared via Heidke skill scores. As a result, the logistic regression model is recommended.

We investigated the prognostic significance of percentage of tumour involvement （PTI） according to the clinicopathological features of prostate cancer among patients who underwent radical prostatectomy （RP）. A retrospective study of 534 patients who underwent RP between September 2003 and March 2008 without any neoadjuvant or adjuvant therapy was performed. The associations of PTI with various clinicopathological features and biochemical recurrence-free survival were examined via uni- and multivariate analyses. The predictive accuracy of the multivariate model was assessed with a receiver operating characteristics-derived area under the curve. PTI was demonstrated to be significantly associated with preoperative prostate-specific antigen （PSA） level （P=0.001）, pathological Gleason score （P〈0.001）, extraprostatic tumour extension （P〈0.001）, seminal vesicle invasion （P〈0.001） and positive surgical margin （P〈0.001） in univariate analyses. When patients were stratified into disease risk groups, PTI was an independent predictor of biochemical recurrence-free survival in multivariate analysis only among the low-risk group （P=0.033） but not the intermediate- （P=0.287） or the high-risk groups （P=0.828）. The addition of the PTI did not significantly increase the accuracy of the multivariate model devised for the prediction of biochemical recurrence-free survival among both total patients （P=-0.459） and the low-risk group （P=0.268）, respectively. In conclusion, although PTI appeared to be a more significant prognostic factor among patients with low-risk disease than among those with higher risk diseases, overall, the PTI may not provide additional prognostic information beyond what can already be obtained via established prognostic factors.

Chronic infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) leads to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma and/or chronic liver failure. Despite extensive research, the immunopathogenesis is not completely understood. Viral persistence and clinical outcomes following HBV infection depend on viral factors and host factors; including genetic factors that determine a host’s immune mechanisms. The primary goal of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) treatment is to eradicate HBV or to at least maintain suppression of HBV replication. Despite recent advances in anti-viral agents for chronic HBV infection, complete eradication of the virus has been difficult to achieve. Agents for the treatment of CHB are divided mainly into two groups: immunomodulating agents and antiviral nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs). Although NAs are safe, effective and easily administered orally, their long-term use poses the risk of drug resistance. Currently, international evidence-based guidelines have been developed to support physicians in managing CHB patients. However, treatment of patients with drug resistance is still challenging, as only a few classes of anti-HBV drugs are available and cross-resistance between drugs can occur. In addition, as the currently available genotypic test for detection of drug resistance still has limitations in identifying the different substitutions present in the same viral genome, the development of a new virologic test to overcome this limitation is necessary. Among the predictive factors associated with response to pegylated interferon (PEG-IFN) therapy, hepatitis B surface antigen quantification is considered to be a surrogate marker for monitoring response to PEG-IFN. Current practice guidelines stress the importance of profound and durable HBV viral suppression in the treatment of CHB patients. Electronic communication service providers are obliged to retain communication data for a certain amount of time by their local laws. The retained communication data or the communication logs are used in various applications such as crime detection, viral marketing, analytical study, and so on. Many of these applications rely on effective techniques for analyzing communication logs. In this paper, we focus on measuring the proximity between two communication entities, which is a fundamental and important step toward further analysis of communication logs, and propose a new proximity measure called ESP （Efficient and Spam-Robust Proximity measure）. Our proposed measure considers only the （graph- theoretically） shortest paths between two entities and gives small values to those between spam-like entities and others. Thus, it is not only computationally efficient but also spam-robust. By conducting several experiments on real and synthetic datasets, we show that our proposed proximity measure is more accurate, computationally efficient and spam-robust than the existing measures in most cases.
