In-situ study of the microstructure evolution during tension of a Mg-Y-Zn-Al alloy processed by rapidly solidified ribbon consolidation technique

Mg-Y-Zn-Al alloys processed by rapidly solidified ribbon consolidation(RSRC)technique exhibit an exceptional mechanical performance indicating promising application *** material has a bimodal microstructure consisting of fine recrystallized and coarse non-recrystallized grains with solute-rich stacking faults forming cluster arranged layers(CALs)and nanoplates(CANaPs),or complete long period stacking ordered(LPSO)*** order to reveal the deformation mechanisms,in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction line profile analysis was employed for a detailed study of the dislocation arrangement created during tension in Mg-0.9%Zn-2.05%Y-0.15%Al(at%)*** uncovering the effect of the initial microstructure on the mechanical performance,additional samples were obtained by annealing of the as-consolidated specimen at 300 and 400℃ for 2 *** heat treatment at 300℃ had no significant effect on the initial microstructure,its evolution during tension and,thus,the overall deformation behavior under tensile *** the other hand,annealing at 400℃ resulted in a significant increase of the recrystallized grains fraction and a decrease of the dislocation density,leading to only minor degradation of the mechanical *** maximum dislocation density at the failure of the samples corresponding to the plastic strain of 10-25% was estimated to be about 16-20×10^(14)m^(-2).The diffraction profile analysis indicated that most dislocations formed during tension were of non-basal and pyramidal types,what was also in agreement with the Schmid factor values revealed independently from orientation *** was also shown that the dislocation-induced Taylor hardening was much lower below the plastic strain of 3% than above this value,which was explained by a model of the interaction between prismatic dislocations and CANaPs/LPSO plates.

Complex open elbow fracture Gustilo-Anderson type IIIB treated with the primary elbow arthroplasty: A case report

Total elbow arthroplasty as a treatment option for open elbow fracture is relatively rare *** reported a 39 years old polytrauma patient with complex open elbow fracture(Gustilo-Anderson type IIIB).The patient presented with large soft tissues defect on dorsal part of the left elbow,ulnar palsy due to the irreparable loss of the ulnar nerve,distal triceps loss due to the complete loss of the olecranon,loss of both humeral condyles with collateral ligaments and complex elbow *** few similar cases have been *** surgery included repetitive radical debridement,irrigation,vacuum assisted closure system therapy,external fixation,coverage of the soft tissue defect with fascia ecutaneous flap from the *** months after the injury,total elbow arthroplasty with autologous bone graft(from the proximal radius)inserted in the ulnar component,was *** 3 years postoperatively,the patient is able to perform an active flexion from 0to 110with full *** passive extension is *** ulnar neuropathy is *** has no signs of infection or loosening of the prosthesis.

For better understanding the communication of microorganism with each other and their environment, analytical techniques providing high resolution were used for the analysis of diffusible molecules produced by *** target signal molecules which are part of quorum sensing,were derivatives of N-acyl homoserine lactones(AHLs)produced by several Gram-negative bacterias and hydroxyl-alkyl-quinolones (HAQ)produced by some Pseudomonas *** were analysed by ultra high pressure chromatography namely UPLC,Fourier transformation ion cyclotron mass spectrometry(ICRT/MS),capillary electrophoresis and gas chromatography.A non-specific sample preparation based on solid phase extraction were developed allowing the screening of possible metabolites among the target *** generally more than one derivative of these signalling molecules are produced in the nature,a screening method combining UPLC or CE and ICRT/MS were built-up without chemical synthesis of the solutes that allows the identification of further putative signalling ***-line,at-line and on-line combination of these analytical techniques gave the possibility for rapid and reliable identification and quantification of the derivatives of AHLs and HAQs from different matrices like cell-free complex-medium and extracts of plant tissues.
