The.val66me. polymorphism of the.bdnf ge.e. which is associate. with compromise. brain-de.ive. ne.rotrophic factor (BDNF) signaling, impaire. synaptic plasticity, and impaire. le.rning, may incre.se.one.s susce.tibility to stre.s- and anxie.y-re.ate. disorde.s. Inde.d, pre.ious work has re.orte. gre.te. anxie.y-re.ate. be.aviors and impairme.ts of fe.r conditioning and e.tinction in individuals who carry the.me. alle.e.that re.ults from this polymorphism. Ne.e.the.e.s, findings in this are. of re.e.rch have.be.n e.uivocal. Thus, we.e.amine. the.influe.ce.of the.val66me. polymorphism on fe.r conditioning, e.tinction, and e.tinction me.ory te.ting. One.hundre. and twe.ty he.lthy participants comple.e. diffe.e.tial fe.r conditioning in a fe.r-pote.tiate. startle.paradigm, followe. by e.tinction and e.tinction me.ory te.ting 24 and 48 hr late., re.pe.tive.y. Participants we.e.ge.otype. for the.val66me. polymorphism and divide. into me. alle.e.carrie.s and non-carrie.s. Re.ults re.e.le. that, although both me.-carrie.s and non-carrie.s de.e.ope. conditione. fe.r, me.-carrie.s e.hibite. significantly we.ke. fe.r acquisition than non-carrie.s. This diffe.e.ce.pe.siste. throughout e.tinction and e.tinction me.ory te.ting and, during the.e.last two days of te.ting, was primarily e.ide.t in fe.ale.. The.e.re.ults are.consiste.t with pre.ious work de.onstrating that this polymorphism is associate. with impaire. amygdala-de.e.de.t fe.r le.rning and e.te.d such findings by de.onstrating that fe.ale. may be.more.se.sitive.to such e.fe.ts.

AIM To ide.tify risk factors associate. with he.atoce.lular carcinoma(HCC), de.cribe.tumor characte.istics and tre.tme.ts purse. for a cohort of individuals with nonalcoholic ste.tohe.atitis(NASH) cirrhosis. Me.HODS We.conducte. a re.rospe.tive.case.control study of a we.l-characte.ize. cohort of patie.ts among five.live. transplant ce.te.s with NASH cirrhosis with(case.) and without HCC(controls).Re.ULTS Nine.y-four case. and 150 controls we.e.include.. Case. we.e.significantly more.like.y to be.male.than controls(67% vs 45%, P e. age.61.9 ye.rs vs 58 ye.rs, P = 0.002). In addition, case. we.e.more.like.y to have.had complications of e.d stage.live. dise.se.83% vs 71%, P = 0.032). On multivariate.analysis, the.stronge.t association with the.pre.e.ce.of HCC we.e.male.ge.de.(OR 4.3, 95%CI: 1.83-10.3, P = 0.001) and age.OR = 1.082, 95%CI: 1.03-1.13, P = 0.001). Hispanic e.hnicity was associate. with a de.re.se. pre.ale.ce.of HCC(OR = 0.3, 95%CI: 0.09-0.994, P = 0.048). HCC was pre.ominantly in the.form of a single.le.ion with re.ional lymph node.s) and distant me.astasis in only 2.6% and 6.3%, re.pe.tive.y. Fifty-nine.point thre. pe.ce.t of individuals with HCC unde.we.t locore.ional the.apy and 61.5% unde.we.t live. transplantation for HCC. CONCLUSION Male.ge.de., incre.se. age.and non-Hispanic e.hnicity are.associate. with HCC in NASH cirrhosis. NASH cirrhosis associate. HCC in this cohort was characte.ize. by e.rly stage.dise.se.at diagnosis and tre.tme.t with locore.ional the.apy and transplant.
