He.e.otopic ossification （HO） re.e.s to the.abnormal formation of bone.in soft tissue. Although some.of the.unde.lying proce.se. of HO have.be.n de.cribe., the.e.are.curre.tly no clinical te.ts using validate. biomarke.s for pre.icting HO formation. As such, the.diagnosis is made.radiographically afte. HO has forme.. To ide.tify pote.tial and nove. biomarke.s for HO, we.use. isobaric tags for re.ative.and absolute.quantitation （iTRAQ） and high-throughput antibody arrays to produce.a se.i-quantitative.prote.mics surve. of se.um and tissue.from subje.ts with （HO ＋） and without （HO-） he.e.otopic ossification. The.re.ulting data we.e.the. analyze. using a syste.s biology approach. We.found that se.um sample. from subje.ts e.pe.ie.cing traumatic injurie. with re.ulting HO have.a diffe.e.t prote.mic e.pre.sion controls. Subse.ue.t quantitative.e.ISA ide.tifie. profile.compare. to those.from the.matche. five.blood se.um prote.ns that we.e.diffe.e.tially re.ulate. be.we.n the.HO-- and HO- groups. Compare. to HO- sample., the.amount of insulin-like.growth factor I （IGF1） was up-re.ulate. in HO＋ sample., whe.e.s a lowe. amount of oste.pontin （OPN）, mye.ope.oxidase.（MPO）, runt-re.ate. transcription factor 2 （RUNX2）,and growth diffe.e.tiation factor 2 or bone.morphoge.e.ic prote.n 9 （BMP-9） was found in HO ＋ sample. （We.ch two sample.t-te.t; P 〈 0.05）. The.e.prote.ns, in combination with pote.tial se.um biomarke.s pre.iously re.orte., are.ke. candidate. for a se.um diagnostic pane. that may e.able.e.rly de.e.tion of HO prior to radiographic and clinical manife.tations.

We.studie. the.be.avioral inte.actionsof two coe.isting small mammals, the.Namaqua rock mouse.Micae.amys namaque.sis (Rode.tia) and the.Rock se.gi e.e.hantulusmyurus (Macrosce.idae., which have.high die.ary and microhabitat ove.lap. Using wild-caught individuals, intra- andinte.spe.ific dyadic e.counte.s we.e.stage. in tanks on a ne.tral rocky outcrop. Inte.spe.ific dyads displaye. significantly more.ctive.avoidance.be.avior. The.e.was no support for the.pre.iction that the.large., more.spe.ialist spe.ie., e. myurus, is be.aviorallydominant ove. M. namaque.sis. Intraspe.ific e.counte.s of e. myurus showe. significantly more.passive.avoidance.andamicable.be.avior, whe.e.s the.be.avior of M. namaque.sis did not diffe. be.we.n intra- and inte.-spe.ific e.counte.s, both ofwhich we.e.characte.ize. by low le.e.s of aggre.sion and amicability.
