We quantify and c.rrec. systematic.errors in PPMXL proper motions using extragalac.ic.sourc.s from the first two LAMOST data releases and the Vbron-c.tty ＆ Vebron c.talog of Quasars. Although the majority of the sourc.s are from the Veron c.talog, LAMOST makes important c.ntributions in regions that are not well-sampled by previous c.talogs, partic.larly at low Galac.ic.latitudes and in the south Galac.ic.c.p. We show that quasars in PPMXL have measurable and signific.nt proper motions, whic. reflec. the systematic.zero-point offsets present in the c.talog. We c.nfirm the global proper motion shifts seen by Wu et al., and additionally find smaller-sc.le fluc.uations of the QSO-derived c.rrec.ions to an absolute frame. We average the proper motions of 158 106 extragalac.ic.objec.s in bins of 3° ×3° and present a table of proper motion c.rrec.ions.

Interspec.fic.hybrids often inc.ease the levels of heterozygosity and hybrid vigor, but some interspec.fic.hybrid seeds are aborted shortly after fertilization. The mec.anism behind this postzygotic.seed abortion is poorly understood. Here, we report genome-wide analysis of allelic.expression c.anges in developing siliques and seeds in three F1 interspec.fic.c.osses between Arabidopsis thaliana （c.l, Ler, or c.4） and Arabidopsis arenosa. The majority of maternally expressed genes （MEGs） were shared among all three F1 interspec.fic.c.osses, whereas ~90% of 272 paternally expressed genes （PEGs） were found only in one or two F1 c.osses, suggesting a role for disrupted paternal gene expression in seed abortion that varies in different c.osses. c.nsistent with this notion, 12 PEGs in the infertile interspec.fic.hybrids matc.ed MEGs in fertile intraspec.fic.hybrids. This disruption of PEGs in the interspec.fic.hybrids was c.nsistent with the upregulation of the genes in the paternal-exc.ss interploidy c.oss （2X6） between a diploid mother and a hexaploid father, leading to the seed abortion. Moreover, a subset of PEGs in the interspec.fic.c.osses were also upregulated in the intraspec.fic.hybrid metlXWT or meaXWT, in whic. the mutant of MET1 （DNA METHYL TRANSFERASE1） or MEDEA, a Polyc.mb Repressive c.mplex2 gene, was used as the maternal parent. These data suggest that maternal epigenetic.fac.ors and paternal gene expression play important roles in the postzygotic.seed abortion in interspec.fic.hybrids or neo-allopolyploids.

The purpose of this projec. was to examine the effec.s of a 20-week training study, whic. inc.uded varied aerobic.exerc.se intensity and identic.l resistanc. and flexibility training, on c.rc.mferenc., body mass, hormonal, health/fitness and psyc.ophysic.l measures. Methods: Thirty-two of 40 rec.uited overweight middle-aged women were randomized into two training groups: low-intensity (LOW: -40% VO2peak and high-intensity (HIGH: -80% VO2peak), for a 20-week training program. Partic.pants were weighed, measured, underwent VO2peak graded exerc.se tests, and had blood drawn pre-training and at 10- and 20-weeks. Results: Both groups experienc.d signific.nt body mass loss at 10- and 20-weeks (LOW: p c.rc.mferenc. loss (10-weeks—LOW: waist, hip, and thigh regions (p c.nt dec.ease (p c.nc.ntrations diminished signific.ntly in both groups (LOW p c.rrelated to the body mass/ anthropometric.c.anges. Disc.ssion: Both low- and high-intensity produc.d signific.nt loss in body mass and c.rc.mferenc. measurements suggesting that it is not the intensity of exerc.se, but rather overall energy expenditure that should be c.nsidered. The advantage of high-intensity aerobic.exerc.se is that it requires less time to produc. the desired energy expenditure. The c.anges in ghrelin and leptin may have c.ntributed to the energy intake during laboratory trials.

Here, we propose a novel method for objec. detec.ion that c.n be generalized for a k-dimensional objec. obtained from an analogous higher-dimensional tec.nology sourc.. Our method is based on the smoothing dec.mposition, Data = Smooth + Rough, where the “rough” (i.e. residual) objec. from a k-dimensional c.oss-shaped smoother provides information for objec. detec.ion. We demonstrate properties of this proc.dure with c.emic.l sensor applic.tions from various biologic.l fields, inc.uding genetic.and proteomic.data analysis.

Mark-rec.pture models are extensively used in quantitative population ec.logy, providing estimates of population vital rates, suc. as survival, that are diffic.lt to obtain using other methods. Vital rates are c.mmonly modeled as func.ions of explanatory c.variates, adding c.nsiderable flexibility to mark-rec.pture models, but also inc.easing the subjec.ivity and c.mplexity of the modeling proc.ss. c.nsequently, model selec.ion and the evaluation of c.variate struc.ure remain c.itic.l aspec.s of mark-rec.pture modeling. The diffic.lties involved in model selec.ion are c.mpounded in c.rmac.-Jolly-Seber models bec.use they are c.mposed of separate sub-models for survival and rec.pture probabilities, whic. are c.nc.ptualized independently even though their parameters are not statistic.lly independent. The c.nstruc.ion of models as c.mbinations of sub-models, together with multiple potential c.variates, c.n lead to a large model set. Although desirable, estimation of the parameters of all models may not be feasible. Strategies to searc. a model spac. and base inferenc. on a subset of all models exist and enjoy widespread use. However, even though the methods used to searc. a model spac. c.n be expec.ed to influenc. parameter estimation, the assessment of c.variate importanc., and therefore the ec.logic.l interpretation of the modeling results, the performanc. of these strategies has rec.ived limited investigation. We present a new strategy for searc.ing the spac. of a c.ndidate set of c.rmac.-Jolly-Seber models and explore its performanc. relative to existing strategies using c.mputer simulation. The new strategy provides an improved assessment of the importanc. of c.variates and c.variate c.mbinations used to model survival and rec.pture probabilities, while requiring only a modest inc.ease in the number of models on whic. inferenc. is based in c.mparison to existing tec.niques.

Purpose: Lung toxic.ty is a primary side effec. in stereotac.ic.radiotherapy (SBRT) for early-stage non-small c.ll lung c.nc.r (NSc.c.. We aimed to use a set of radiobiologic.l models to evaluate and c.mpare modern IMRT delivery tec.niques with three-dimensional c.nformal tec.niques for SBRT treatment of NSc.c.in terms of lung toxic.ty, and aimed to c.mpare the results from different radiobiologc.l models. Methods: Ten early-stage NSc.c.patients treated with SBRT were retrospec.ively selec.ed. Five treatment plans were generated to deliver 50 Gy in five frac.ions to the planning target volume for eac. c.se: a helic.l tomotherapy (HT) plan, two three-dimensional c.fnromal radiotherapy (3D-c.T) plans using 6-MV and 10-MV photon beams respec.ively, and two volumetric.modulated arc.therapy (VMAT) plans using one and two arc.fields respec.ively. The lung RDV was c.lc.lated with three parallel func.ional sub-unit (FSU) models and two normal tissue c.mplic.tion probability (NTc.) models. Results: Both the HT and VMAT plans showed signific.ntly higher c.ntralateral mean lung dose and lower ipsilateral mean lung dose c.mpared to the 3D-c.T plans. There was no statistic.lly signific.nt differenc. in terms of lung toxic.ties between the IMRT and 3D-c.T tec.niques using either the FSU models or the NTc. models. Based on both the FSU and the NTc. models, there was strong c.rrelation between lung toxic.ty and the mean lung dose in SBRT treatment plans. c.nc.usions: Based on both the NTc. and parallel FSU models, both IMRT and traditional 3D-c.T delivery tec.niques c.uld ac.ieve c.mparable lung sparing inn SBRT treatment of early-stage lung c.nc.r. However, the validity of the radiobiologic.l model results should be c.ec.ed by c.inic.l data.

Diurnal leaf and c.nopy gas exc.anges of well-watered field grown c.tton were measured. Our objec.ive was to sc.le leaf-level values of transpiration and net assimilation to the whole c.nopy level using estimates of c.nopy leaf area. Single leaf gas exc.ange measurements were made with two portable photosynthesis systems and c.nopy measurements with four open c.nopy Evapo-Transpiration and Assimilation (c.TA) c.amber systems. c.nopy leaf area was measured at the end of the experiment and estimated during gas exc.ange by fitting values to a growth c.rve. Leaf level measurements were arithmetic.lly sc.led to estimate c.nopy level gas exc.ange based on c.nopy leaf area and then c.mpared to the measured values. Sc.led values of single leaf transpiration were very similar to c.nopy transpiration measurements, although both whole c.nopy transpiration and assimilation were overestimated around mid-day. We c.nc.ude that c.nopy c.tton transpiration of well-watered field grown plants c.uld be estimated within 5% throughout the day by sc.ling leaf level measurements to the whole c.nopy using measured c.nopy leaf area. Estimating c.nopy assimilation from leaf level measurements remains problematic.

Few systematic.studies of the relationship between “c.op stress”, as defined by suc. surrogates, and physiologic.l estimates of water use effic.enc. (WUE) exist over both daily and seasonal time sc.les relevant to agronomic.irrigation c.ntrol. The systematic.applic.tion of stable c.rbon isotope disc.imination (δ13c. might allow post hoc.evaluation of irrigation sc.eduling sc.emes and might also be a useful germplasm sc.eening tool if the sourc.(s) of variability c.n be unc.vered and/or c.ntrolled. Results from preliminary efforts c.mparing leaf and c.tton seed δ13c.to season-long water defic.ts showed that seeds are more useful indic.tors of season-long water stress and water use effic.enc. during c.op development.
