Background:The European Congenital Heart Surgeons Association(ECHSA)Congenital Heart Surgery Database(CHSD)was founded in 1999 and is open for worldwide *** current dataset includes a large amount of surgical data from both Europe and *** purpose of this analysis is to compare patterns of practice and outcomes among pediatric congenital heart defect surgeries in Europe and China using the ***:We examined all European(125 centers,58,261 operations)and Chinese(13 centers,23,920 operations)data in the ECHSA-CHSD from *** mortality,postoperative length of stay,median patient age and weight were calculated for the ten benchmark operations for China and Europe,***:Benchmark procedure distribution frequencies differed between Europe and *** China,ventricular septal defect repair comprised approximately 70%of procedures,while Norwood operations comprised less than one percent of all *** cardiac procedures were rare in China *** procedures in STAT mortality category 1,Chinese centers had lower operative mortality rates,while procedures in categories 3 and 5 mortality is lower in European *** mortality over the time period decreased from 3.89%to 1.64%for the whole cohort,with a sharper decline in *** drop coincides with an increase of submitted procedures over this ***:Chinese centers had higher programmatic volume of congenital heart surgeries,while European centers have a more complex case *** for patients with functionally univentricular heart was performed less commonly in *** comparison of patterns of practice and outcomes demonstrate opportunities for continuing bidirectional transcontinental collaboration and quality improvement.

Pharmacist and Physician Collaborative Practice Model Improves Vancomycin Dosing in an Intensive Care Unit

Objective: A pharmacist and physician collaborative practice intervention to improve the initial dosing of vancomycin was implemented with the goal of decreasing the number of subtherapeutic first troughs and increasing the number of therapeutic troughs. Methods: Using the best available evidence, a nomogram was created to determine the initial vancomycin dose. The nomogram utilized actual bodyweight and glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) estimated with the MDRD4 equation. The dose was based on the 2009 ASHP/IDSA/SIDP guidelines, which recommended 15 - 20 mg/kg every 8 - 12 hours. Providers ordered “vancomycin IV dosed per pharmacy”. Results: The pre- (n = 75) and post-intervention (n = 108) cohorts had similar age, gender distribution, weight, and eGFR. The median total daily vancomycin dose was similar in pre- and post-intervention groups (2000 mg), although the median first trough was higher following the intervention (13.0 vs. 14.8 mcg/ml, p = 0.03). Following the intervention, the proportion of first troughs under 10 mcg/ml decreased (32% to 13%, p = 0.003), while the proportion of troughs in the 10 - 20 mcg/ml therapeutic range increased (50.7% vs. 69.4%, p = 0.01). There was no difference in the proportion of troughs over 20 mcg/ml (17.3% vs. 17.6%, p = 0.96). Conclusions: A multi-disciplinary intervention utilizing a nomogram-based pharmacy collaborative practice model significantly improves the proportion of therapeutic initial vancomycin troughs and decreases the number of subtherapeutic troughs by half.

2D Conjugate Maps of DNA Sequences

Random sequences play an important role in wider security applications, such as mobile communication and network security. Due to DNA sequences owning natural randomness, in order to show DNA’s characteristics intuitively, this paper proposes a method to present DNA sequences as conjugate maps. The method includes two core models: measuring models to transfer DNA data into measurements, and visual models to test random sequences as distribution maps to show DNA’s characteristics. The spatial relations between sample DNA and CA random sequences are illustrated and compared in the end. The results show that the distribution of DNA sequences and CA random sequences has significant differences and similarities. It can provide a reference for in-depth visualization study of DNA sequences on their measurement maps.

Background:Psycho social factors predict recurrent inj ury and return to preinjury level of performance following orthopedic injury but are poorly understood following *** management protocols prioritize physical measures of ***,the objective of this study was to describe the psychosocial factors associated with return to sport(RTS) and how they are measured in athletes who sustained a ***:MEDLINE,Embase,APA PsycINFO,CINAHL,and SPORTDiscus were searched through February 2,*** studies included original peer-reviewed publications describing psychosocial factors associated with RTS following a diagnosed *** primary outcome was scales or measures employed and/or key thematic ***:Of the 3615 studies identified,10 quantitative cohort studies(Oxford Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Level-3) representing 2032 athletes(85% male;high-school and collegiate collision/contact athletes) and 4 qualitative studies representing 66 athletes(74% male;70% American football;aged 9-28 years) were *** identified 3 overarching themes and 10 outcome measures related to psychosocial factors associated with RTS following concussion:(a) fear(e.g,of recurrent concussion,of RTS,of losing playing status);(b) emotional factors(e.g,depression,anxiety,perceived stress,mental health,disturbance mood);and(c) contextual factors(e.g,social support,pressure,sense of identity).Conclusion:Although current medical clearance decisions prioritize physical measures of recovery,evidence suggests diverse psychosocial factors influence RTS following *** remains unclear which psychosocial factors contribute to a successful RTS,including the influence of sex/gender and *** studies should evaluate the association of psychological readiness with physical measures of recovery at medical clearance,preinjury level of performance,and risk of recurrent concussion to support RTS clinical decision-making.

Background:Tauopathies comprise a family of neurodegenerative disorders including Alzheimer’s disease for which there is an urgent and unmet need for disease-modifying *** are characterized by pathological tau hyperphosphorylation,which has been shown to correlate tightly with disease progression and memory loss in patients suffering from Alzheimer’s *** recently demonstrated an essential requirement for 3-O-sulfated heparan sulfate in pathological tau hyperphosphorylation in zebrafish,a prominent model organism for human drug ***,we investigated whether in vivo treatment with surfen or its derivatives oxalyl surfen and hemisurfen,small molecules with heparan sulfate antagonist properties,could mitigate tau hyperphosphorylation and neuronal deficits in a zebrafish model of ***:In vivo treatment of Tg[HuC::hTau^(P301L);DsRed]embryos for 2 days with surfen or oxalyl surfen significantly reduced the accumulation of the pThr181 tau phospho-epitope measured by ELISA by 30%and 51%,*** blot analysis also showed a significant decrease of pThr181 and pSer396/pSer404 in embryos treated with surfen or oxalyl *** analysis further confirmed that treatment with surfen or oxalyl surfen significantly decreased the AT8 tau epitope in spinal *** addition,in vivo treatment of Tg[HuC::hTau^(P301L);DsRed]embryos with surfen or oxalyl surfen significantly rescued spinal motoneuron axon-branching defects and,as a likely consequence,the impaired stereotypical touch-evoked escape ***,treatment with hemisurfen,a surfen derivative devoid of heparan sulfate antagonist activity,does not affect tau hyperphosphorylation,nor neuronal or behavioural deficits in Tg[HuC::hTau^(P301L);DsRed]***:Our findings demonstrate for the first time that surfen,a well-tolerated molecule in clinical settings,and its derivative,oxalyl surfen,could mitigate or delay neuronal defects

Efforts to map atomic-scale chemistry at low doses with minimal noise using electron microscopes are fundamentally limited by inelastic ***,fused multi-modal electron microscopy offers high signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)recovery of material chemistry at nano-and atomic-resolution by coupling correlated information encoded within both elastic scattering(high-angle annular dark-field(HAADF))and inelastic spectroscopic signals(electron energy loss(EELS)or energy-dispersive x-ray(EDX)).By linking these simultaneously acquired signals,or modalities,the chemical distribution within nanomaterials can be imaged at significantly lower doses with existing detector *** many cases,the dose requirements can be reduced by over one order of *** high SNR recovery of chemistry is tested against simulated and experimental atomic resolution data of heterogeneous nanomaterials.
