Background The majority of coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)symptom presentations in adults and children appear to run their course within a couple of ***,a subgroup of adults has started to emerge with effects lasting several months or more after initial infection,which raises questions about the long-term physical,mental and social health effects of COVID-19 in the pediatric *** purpose of this review was to determine these impacts well into the second year of the *** A search was conducted using PubMed,Web of Science,Science Direct,and Cochrane between 11/1/2019 and 9/1/*** inclusion criteria were as follows:(1)COVID-19 illness and symptoms in children;(2)severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 in children;(3)English language;and(4)human studies *** The few studies that have documented long-term physical symptoms in children show that fatigue,difficulty in concentrating(brain fog),sleep disturbances,and sensory problems are the most reported *** studies examining the impact of COVID-19 in pediatric populations have focused on initial clinical presentation,and symptoms,which are similar to those in adult *** addition,COVID-19 has had a moderate impact on children and adolescents’social environment,which may exacerbate current and future physiological,psychological,behavioral,and academic *** There are limited studies reporting long physical symptoms of COVID-19 in the pediatric ***,pediatric COVID-19 cases are underreported due to low rates of testing and symptomatic infection,which calls for more longitudinal *** who have experienced COVID-19 illness should be monitored for long physiological,psychological,behavioral,and academic outcomes.

Multimodal communication in animals is common,and is particularly well studied in signals that include both visual and auditory *** signals that combine acoustic and olfactory components are less well *** communication plays a crucial role in agonistic interactions in many mammals,but relatively little is known about this type of communication in nocturnal ***,we used male Great Himalayan leaf-nosed bats Hipposideros armiger to investigate multimodal signal function in acoustic and olfactory aggressive *** monitored the physiological responses(heart rate[HR])when *** was presented with 1 of 3 stimuli:territorial calls,forehead gland odors,and bimodal signals(calls+odors).Results showed that *** rapidly increased their HR when exposed to any of the 3 ***,the duration of elevated HR and magnitude of change in HR increased significantly more when acoustic stimuli were presented alone compared with the presentation of olfactory stimuli *** contrast,the duration of elevated HR and magnitude of change in HR were significantly higher with bimodal stimuli than with olfactory stimuli alone,but no significant differences were found between the HR response to acoustic and bimodal *** previous work showed that acoustic and chemical signals provided different types of information;here we describe experiments investigating the responses to those *** results suggest that olfactory and acoustic signals are non-redundant signal components,and that the acoustic component is the dominant modality in male ***,at least as it related to *** study provides the first evidence that acoustic signals dominate over olfactory signals during agonistic interactions in a nocturnal mammal.

Despite therapeutic advancements,the prognosis of locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer(LANSCLC),which has invaded multiple lobes or the other lung and intrapulmonary lymph nodes,remains *** emergence of immunotherapy with immune checkpoint blockade(ICB)is transforming cancer ***,only a fraction of lung cancer patients benefit from *** clinical evidence suggests that the proinflammatory tumor microenvironment(TME)and programmed death-ligand 1(PD-L1)expression correlate positively with response to the PD-1/PD-L1 *** report here a liposomal nanoparticle loaded with cyclic dinucleotide and aerosolized(AeroNP-CDN)for inhalation delivery to deep-seated lung tumors and target CDN to activate stimulators of interferon(IFN)genes in macrophages and dendritic cells(DCs).Using a mouse model that recapitulates the clinical LANSCLC,we show that AeroNP-CDN efficiently mitigates the immunosuppressive TME by reprogramming tumor-associated macrophage from the M2 to M1 phenotype,activating DCs for effective tumor antigen presentation and increasing tumor-infiltrating CD8+T cells for adaptive anticancer ***,activation of interferons by AeroNP-CDN also led to increased PD-L1 expression in lung tumors,which,however,set a stage for response to anti-PD-L1 ***,anti-PD-L1 antibody-mediated blockade of IFNs-induced immune inhibitory PD-1/PD-L1 signaling further prolonged the survival of the LANSCLC-bearing ***,AeroNP-CDN alone or combination immunotherapy was safe without local or systemic *** conclusion,this study demonstrates a potential nano-immunotherapy strategy for LANSCLC,and mechanistic insights into the evolution of adaptive immune resistance provide a rational combination immunotherapy to overcome it.

BACKGROUND The extensor indicis proprius(EIP)tendon is a frequently used donor for a variety of tendon transfers,most commonly for reconstruction of the extensor pollicis longus(EPL).EIP is known to have frequent anatomic variants including split tendons and variations in tendon *** To characterize the anatomy of the EIP at the level of the extensor retinaculum,where tendon harvest is often performed,and share our preferred technique for EIP to EPL *** Twenty-nine fresh-frozen cadaveric forearms without history of forearm or hand injury or surgery were *** circumference and relationship of the EIP and extensor digitorum communis to the index(EDCI)at the metacarpophalangeal(MCP)joint and the distal extensor retinaculum were *** from the distal extensor retinaculum to the EIP myotendinous junction was *** EIP was ulnar to the EDCI in 96.5%of specimens(28/29)at the distal edge of the extensor *** the remaining specimen,EIP was volar to *** circumference at the distal extensor retinaculum averaged(9.3 mm±1.7 mm)for EDCI and 11.1 mm(±2.7 mm)for EIP(P=0.0010).The tendon circumference at the index MCP joint averaged 11.0 mm(±1.7 mm)for EDCI and 10.6 mm(±2.1 mm)for EIP(P=0.33).EIP had a greater circumference in 76%(22/29)of specimens at the distal extensor retinaculum whereas EIP had a greater circumference in only 31%(9/29)of specimens at the MCP *** The EIP tendon is frequently ulnar to and greater in circumference than the EDCI at the distal extensor retinaculum,which can be taken into consideration for tendon transfers involving EIP.

LiMn_(0.5)Fe_(0.5)PO_(4) has attracted great interest due to its good electrochemical performance and higher operating *** has led to a greater than 30 percent higher energy density than for commercial Li Fe PO4 olivine *** the phase transition behaviors and kinetics of this material will help researchers to design and develop next generation cathodes for Li-ion *** this study,we investigated non-equilibrium phase transition behaviors in a LiMn_(0.5)Fe_(0.5)PO_(4) cathode material during charge–discharge processes by varying current rates(C-rates)using synchrotron in-situ X-ray *** methods included wide angle X-ray scattering(in-situ WAXS)and X-ray absorption spectroscopy(in-situ XAS).The WAXS spectra indicate that the phase transition of LiMn_(0.5)Fe_(0.5)PO_(4) material at slow C-rates is induced by a two-phase *** contrast,at a high C-rate(5 C),the formation of an intermediate phase upon discharge is clearly ***,the oxidation numbers of the redox reactions of Fe^(2+)/Fe^(3+)and Mn^(2+)/Mn^(3+)were evaluated using in-situ *** combination of synchrotron in-situ X-ray techniques gives clear insights into the non-equilibrium phase transition behavior of a LiMn_(0.5)Fe_(0.5)PO_(4) cathode *** new understanding will be useful for further developments of this highly promising cathode material for practical commercialization.
