The focus of this study was to investigate the macroinvertebrate community in surface mine wetlands. Nine wetlands were sampled for macroinvertebrates from July 1993 through May *** sites represented a range of physical,chemical, and biological parameters. Macroinvertebrates were found in all sites;a total of 14 orders, 40 families,and 70 genera were identified in the samples. Insects were the most common invertebrates,and most functional feeding groups were represented. Predators dominated with 63% of the taxa, followed by the collector/gathers with 20%,shredders 14%, and scrapers 3%. Sites differed in the number of taxa inhabiting *** ranged from 10 genera to *** lowest richness was found in two seasonal wetlands that were dry for the majority of the year. A permanently flooded site with no water quality problems and a dense growth of aquatic plants had the highest richness.

Recognition of pathogens by Toll-like receptors （TLR） activate multiple signaling cascades and expression of genes tailored to mount a primary immune response, inflammation, cell survival and apoptosis. Although TLR-induced activation of pathways, such as nuclear factor kappab （NF-κb） and mitogen-activated protein kinases （MAPK）, has been well studied, molecular entities controlling quantitative regulation of these pathways during an immune response remain poorly defined. We identified Sam68 as a novel regulator of TLR-induced NF-κb and MAPK activation. We found that TLR2 and TLR3 are totally dependent, whereas TLR4 is only partially dependent on Sam68 to induce the activation of NF-Kb c-Rel. Absence of Sam68 greatly decreased TLR2- and TLR3-induced NF-κb p65 activation, whereas TLR4- induced p65 activation in a Sam68-independent manner. In contrast, Sam68 appeared to be a negative regulator of MAPK pathways because absence of Sam68 enhanced TLR2-induced activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinases （ERK） and c-Jun N-terminal kinases （JNK）. Interestingly, TLR2- and TLR3-induced gene expression showed a differential requirement of Sam68. Absence of Sam68 impaired TLR2-induced gene expression, suggesting that Sam68 has a critical role in myeloid differentiation primary response gene 88-dependent TLR2 signaling. TLR3-induced gene expression that utilize Toll/Interleukin-1 receptor-domain-containing adapter-inducing beta interferon pathway, depend only partially on Sam68. Our findings suggest that Sam68 may function as an immune rheostat that balances the activation of NF-κb p65 and c-Rel, as well as MAPK, revealing a potential novel target to manipulate TLR signaling.

Recent morphological studies in schizophrenia suggest atrophic changes in the neuropil of the prefrontal cortex. Most recently, we showed a schizophrenia-associated decrease in MAP2 in schizophrenia, which we believed is not due to neuroleptic exposure. MAP2 is a very important protein in the assembly of micro-tubule in neurons;therefore, it plays a major role in neuronal processes like dendrites, spines and synapses. Additionally, recent studies from our lab showed decreases in dendrites in area 32 and area 9. In this study we examined the dendrites and spines in area 9 and 17 to determine if neuroleptic drugs play a role. Huntington’s patients take neuroleptics similar to schizophrenics;therefore, by comparing the two groups to controls we can determine if neuroleptics play a role in the deficits reported in schizophrenia. Our results showed a significant decrease in both basal dendrites and spines for both layers III and V in area 9 in schizophrenia compared to controls. The Huntington’s brains, on the other hand, showed no significant difference compared to controls. In area 17, there was also no significant difference when comparing the three groups. The data suggest that neuroleptic drugs may not be responsible for the changes observed in schizophrenia.

Trichomerium is a genus of foliar epiphytes with the appearance of sooty moulds,mostly occurring on the surface of living leaves and apparently gaining their nutrients from insect *** have ascostromata with setae and develop on a loosely interwoven mycelial mass of dark brown hyphae,while asci have a bitunicate appearance with hyaline *** this study,we made 16 collections of Trichomerium from *** were isolated,and the LSU and ITS rDNA gene regions *** analysis indicated that the Trichomerium species form a monophyletic clade within Chaetothyriales and warrant the introduction of a new family *** support for the Chaetothyriales is 100%and clearly separates Trichomeriaceae from Capnodiales which are morphologically very similar.A detailed account of Trichomerium is provided and we describe and illustrate three new species based on morphological and molecular *** propose that *** is adopted as the generic type of Trichomerium because it has been impossible to obtain the holotype specimen of *** and also no molecular data exists in worldwide databases for this species or genus.

Thermal energy management in metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)is an important,yet often neglected,challenge for many adsorption-based applications such as gas storage and *** its importance,there is insufficient understanding of the structure-property relationships governing thermal transport in *** provide a data-driven perspective into these relationships,here we perform large-scale computational screening of thermal conductivity k in MOFs,leveraging classical molecular dynamics simulations and 10,194 hypothetical MOFs created using the TobaCCo 3.0 *** found that high thermal conductivity in MOFs is favored by high densities(>1.0 g cm^(−3)),small pores(bit ultra-low thermal conductivity(10 W m^(−1) K^(−1)),the structures of which we describe in additional detail.

Anemia of diverse etiology is a common complication of chronic liver diseases. The causes of anemia include acute or chronic gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and hypersplenism secondary to portal hypertension. Severe hepatocellular disease predisposes to hemorrhage because of impaired blood coagulation caused by deficiency of blood coagulation factors synthesized by hepatocytes, and/or thrombocytopenia. Aplastic anemia, which is characterized by pancytopenia and hypocellular bone marrow, may follow the development of hepatitis. Its presentation includes progressive anemia and hemorrhagic manifestations. Hematological complications of combination therapy for chronic viral hepatitis include clinically signif icant anemia, secondary to treatment with ribavirin and/or interferon. Ribavirininduced hemolysis can be reversed by reducing the dose of the drug or discontinuing it altogether. Interferons may contribute to anemia by inducing bone marrow suppression. Alcohol ingestion is implicated in the pathogenesis of chronic liver disease and may contribute to associated anemia. In patients with chronic liver disease, anemia may be exacerbated by defi ciency of folic acid and/or vitamin b12 that can occur secondary to inadequate dietary intake or malabsorption.
