Hemodynamics and oxygen transport dynamics during hepatic resection at different central venous pressures in a pig model

BACKGROUND: Although low central venous pressure (CVP) has been used to minimize blood loss during hepatectomy the impact of variations of CVP on the rate of blood loss and on the perfusion of end-organs has not been evaluated This animal study aimed to evaluate the hemodynamics and oxygen transport changes during hepatic resection at different CVP levels. METHODS: Forty-eight anesthetized Bama miniature pigs were divided into 8 groups with CVP during hepatic resection controlled at 0 to <1, 1 to <2, 2 to <3, 3 to <4, 4 to <5, 5 to <6, 6 to <7, and 7 to <8 cmH 2 O. Intergroup comparisons were made for hemodynamic parameters, oxygen transport dynamics, and the rate of blood loss. RESULTS: The rate of blood loss and the hepatic venous pressure during hepatic resection were almost linearly related to the CVP. A significant drop in the mean arterial pressure cardiac output, and cardiac index occurred between CVP ≥2 and <2 cmH 2 O. Oxygen delivery (DO 2 ), oxygen consumption (VO 2 ) and oxygen extraction ratio (ERO 2 ) remained relatively constant between CVPs of 2 to <8 cmH 2 O. There was a significant drop in DO 2 when the CVP was <2 cmH 2 O. There was also a significant drop in VO 2 and ExO 2 when the CVP was <1 cmH 2 ***: The optimal CVP for hepatic resection is 2to 3 cmH2O.

Microwave-hydrothermal treatment of persis- tent and bioaccumulative perfluorooctanoic acid （PFOA） in water with persulfate （S2O2-） has been found effective. However, applications of this process to effectively remediate PFOA pollution require a better understanding on free-radical scavenging reactions that also take place. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects ofpH （pH= 2.5, 6.6, 8.8, and 10.5）, chloride concentra- tions （0.01-0.15 mol.L-1）, and temperature （60℃, 90℃, and 130℃） on persulfate oxidation of PFOA under microwave irradiation. Maximum PFOA degradation occurred at pH 2.5, while little or no degradation at pH 10.5. Lowering system pH resulted in an increase in PFOA degradation rate. Both high pH and chloride concentrations would result in more scavenging of sulfate free radicals and slow down PFOA degradation. When chloride concentrations were less than 0.04 mol.L^-1 at 90℃ and 0.06mol.L^-1 at 60℃, presence of chloride ions had insignificant impacts on PFOA degradation. However, beyond these concentration levels, PFOA degradation rates reduced significantly with an increase in chloride concentrations, especially under the higher temperature.

Renewed studies of chronic infection have shifted the focus from single pathogens to multi-microbial communities as culture-independent techniques reveal complex consortia of microbes associated with chronic *** a general acceptance that some chronic diseases are caused by mixed microbial communities,areas of research exploring community interactions as they relate to the alteration of virulence are still in the early *** of the NIH Human Microbiome Project have been actively characterizing the microbial communities of the skin,nasal,oral,gastrointestinal,and urogenital cavities of healthy ***,several independent studies have begun to characterize the oral,nasal,sinus,upper and lower respiratory microbiomes in healthy and diseased human *** interactions among the members of these polymicrobial communities have not been thoroughly explored and it is clear there is a need to identify the functional interactions that drive population-level virulence if new therapeutic approaches to chronic disease are to be *** example,multiple studies have examined the role of quorum sensing(QS)in microbial virulence,and QS antagonists are being developed and tested as novel *** potential targets include the Gram-negative type III signaling system(T3SS),type IV pili,and two component regulatory systems(TCRS).Initial results from these studies indicate limited efficacy in vivo,further suggesting that the interactions in a heterogeneous community are complex and poorly *** progress is to be made in the development of more effective treatments for chronic diseases,a better understanding of the composition and functional interactions that occur within multi-microbial communities must be developed.

The advancements in Mobile Ad-hoc Network(MANET)are suitable to wide applications,which involve military applications,civilian domains,and disaster recovery *** is assumed that the nodes present in the routing protocols of MANETs are cooperative and *** assumption makes MANET more prone to manipulation and interception,which generates several possibilities of different suspicious attacks,such as Denial of Service(DoS)***,security is considered as an important parameter as the network is fond of suspicious *** paper addresses the security issues by proposing an optimization algorithm,named Jaya Cuckoo Search(JCS)algorithm,which is the combination of Jaya algorithm and Cuckoo Search(CS)algorithm for initiating secure route among the MANET nodes so that the path attained is feasible and *** proposed JCS algorithm uses a fitness function,which considers a multiobjective function using parameters,such as distance,link lifetime,delay,energy,trust,along with the reputation factor to select a secured *** JCS algorithm shows maximum performance with energy,throughput,and PDR values as 27.826 J,0.554,and 0.628,respectively.
