Hydrogenation of the buffer-layer graphene on 6H-SiC （0001）： A possible route for the engineering of graphene- based devices

The hydrogenation at various temperatures of the （6√3 ×6√3）R30° reconstruction of SIC（0001）, the so-called buffer layer graphene （BLG）, is investigated. For the BLG, a significant concentration of remaining dangling bonds related to unsaturated Si atoms of the outermost SiC bilayer is evidenced in the inverse photoemission spectra. These dangling bonds give rise to a peak around 1 eV above the Fermi level, associated with the upper single-electron states of a Mott-Hubbard insulator, which vanishes upon hydrogenation. Hydrogen atoms adsorbed at ambient temperature remain covalently bound to BLG （H-BLG） up to temperatures of -500℃. They induce additional C-Si bonds at the BLG/SiC interface that saturate the remaining Si dangling bonds, as evidenced in both IPES and Auger electron spectra. The H-BLG further shows a large energy gap and an excess n-type doping in comparison to the pristine BLG. Upon hydrogen exposure at higher temperature （〉 700 ℃）, hydrogen atoms intercalate at the BLG/SiC interface, inducing the formation of a single layer of quasi-free- standing graphene （QFSG） lying on top of a hydrogenated （√3×√3）R30° reconstruction as supported by IPES. We suggest that the high-stability and the distinct electronic structure of both BLG-derived structures, H-BLG and QFSG, may open a route for the engineering of graphene-based devices.

We revisit the hyperon weak radiative decays in the framework of the non-relativistic constituent quark model. This study confirms the nonlocal feature of the hyperon weak radiative transition operators, which are dominated by the pole terms, and an overall self-consistent description of the available experimental data for the Cabibbofavored hyperon weak radiative decays is presented. It provides a natural mechanism for evading the Hara theorem,where sizeable parity-violating contributions can come from the intermediate orbital excitations. Cancellations between pole terms also explain the significant SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking manifested by the experimental data. We also discuss several interesting selection rules arising from either the electromagnetic or the weak interaction vertices. These features suggest nontrivial relations among various hyperon decays.

This review summarizes the recent advances on the application of ^(57)Fe Mössbauer spectrometry to study the magnetic and phase characteristics of Nd–Fe–B-based permanent magnets. First of all, the hyperfine structures of the Ce_(2)Fe_(14)B,(Ce,Nd)_(2)Fe_(14)B and MM_(2)Fe_(14)B phases are well-defined by using the model based on the Wigner-Seitz analysis of the crystal structure. The results show that the isomer shift δ and the quadrupole splitting öEQ of those 2:14:1 phases show minor changes with the Nd content, while the hyperfine field Bhfincreases monotonically with increasing Nd content and its value is influenced by the element segregation and phase separation in the 2:14:1 phase. Then, the hyperfine structures of the low fraction secondary phases are determined by the ^(57)Fe Mössbauer spectrometry due to its high sensitivity. On this basis,the content, magnetic behavior, and magnetization of the REFe_(2) phase, the amorphous grain boundary(GB) phase, and the amorphous worm-like phase, as well as their effects on the magnetic properties, are systematically studied.

AIM To investigate the prevalence and causes of cholestasis in patients with inflammatory bowel diseases in the Swiss Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Cohort. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was performed of all the patients in the Swiss Inflammatory bowel disease Cohort. Total bile acid was measured for all patients and cholestasis was defined as a concentration > 8 μmol/L. The characteristics of patients with or without cholestasis were compared. Bile acid profiles were then determined for 80 patients with high total bile acid and 80 matched patients with low total bile acid. Bile acid profiles were compared for smokers vs nonsmokers, ileal vs colonic disease, and inflammatory vs non inflammatory *** Ninety-six patients had more than 8 μmol/L total bile acid, giving a prevalence of 7.15%. Patients with an obvious cause of cholestasis, such as primary sclerosing cholangitis, were then excluded, leaving 1190 participants with total bile acid 8 μmol/L. In multivariate analysis, calcium supplementation was significantly associated with cholestasis(odds ratio, 2.36, 95%CI: 1.00-5.21, P = 0.040) whereas current smoking significantly reduced the risk of cholestasis(odds ratio, 0.42, 95%CI: 0.17-0.91, P = 0.041). Levels of all conjugated bile acids were higher in the cholestasis group than in the control group. When we compared patients with ileal vs colonic disease, the former had higher levels of primary, secondary, and tertiary bile acids whereas patients with colonic disease had higher levels of conjugated bile *** Prevalence of cholestasis is high. Smoking appears to reduce cholestasis. Conjugated bile acids are higher in cholestasis and in colonic disease whereas unconjugated in ileal disease.

The chemical communication system in Drosophila melanogaster Meigen,1830 plays a major role in courtship and consists of the male-specific cis-Vaccenyl acetate and sex-specific contact pheromones,cuticular hydrocarbons(CHC),which build up during ontogeny(first 4 days).They replace longer CHCs,common to both sexes and present only after the imaginal eclosion.A detailed quantitative description of the evolution of cuticular unsaturated hydrocarbons with age is presented here for males and females of different *** strains,which have been bred in well controlled *** appear in both sexes at around 12 h,before female *** present paper argues that this is likely linked to the switching on of a new set of ***,which is more abundant in females than in males during this critical period,might control this *** behavioral studies show that whereas female of all ages trigger early mature male courtship steps like wing vibration,only females older than 1 day trigger late courtship steps like attempted *** supports the hypothesis that late male courtship steps might be triggered by the CHCs,which build up after this age,especially female-specific(Z,Z)-7,11-and(Z,Z)-5,9-dienes.

The model studied in this paper is a stochastic extension of the so-called neuron model introduced by Hodgkin and Huxley. In the sense of rough paths, the model is perturbed by a multiplicative noise driven by a fractional Brownian motion, with a vector field satisfying the viability condition of Coutin and Marie for R× [0, 1]3. An application to the modeling of the membrane potential of nerve fibers damaged by a neuropathy is provided.

Clinical features of Huntington disease in 243 Chinese patients

OBJECTIVE： To thoroughly explore the clinical characteristics of Huntington disease in China. METHODS： A computer-based online search of China National Knowledge Infrastructure was performed to review case reports concerning Huntington disease published between 1980 and 2008; the clinical characteristics were analyzed. RESULTS： A total of 80 studies involving 243 patients （142 males and 101 females） were collected, 82.0% of which were from provinces of North China. In addition, 97.1% of the cases had a family history of Huntington disease, and paternal inheritance （64.6%） was greater than maternal inheritance （35.4%）. Moreover, onset age was significantly less than from maternal inheritance. The mean onset age of Huntington disease was （35.2 ± 11.5） years, mean age of death was （45.6 ± 13.5） years, and the mean course of disease from onset to death was （11.6 ± 5.6） years. Onset characterized by involuntary movement accounted for 47.7%, including 66.4% in the entire body, 16.4% in the upper limbs, and 14.7% in the head and face. Psychiatric symptoms accounted for 18.1%, and disturbed intelligence accounted for 2.1%. With disease progression, 99.5% of patients exhibited involuntary movement, 69.8% displayed cognitive impairment, and 39.2% suffered from psychiatric symptoms. In addition, 38.7% of patients were complicated by dysarthria, dysphagia, and cough after drinking. A total of 70.8% of patients exhibited an abnormal electroencephalogram, 18.8% had mild abnormalities in the cerebrospinal fluid, and 70.1% displayed brain atrophy and lateral ventriculomegaly on CT or MRI. A total of 88.9% of patients scored ≤ 23 in the Mini-Mental State Examination （MMSE）. Of the reported patients, only 22 underwent/T15 gene testing with positive results. CONCLUSION： Huntington disease is more frequently detected in males than females, and the majority has a family history.
