Objective: To carry out a 3D vector reconstruction of the muscles of the ventral region of the neck from anatomical sections of the “Korean Visible Human” for educational purposes. Materials and Methods: The anatomical subject was a 33-year-old Korean man who died of leukemia. He was 164 cm tall and weighed 55 kgs. The anatomical sections were made in 2010 after an MRI and a CT scan. A special saw (cryomacrotome) made it possible to make cuts 0.2 mm thick on the frozen body, i.e. 5960 cuts. Sections numbered 1500 to 2000 (or 500 cuts covering the neck) were used for our study. A segmentation by manual contouring of each anatomical element of the anterior neck region was done using Winsurf version 3.5 software on a laptop PC running Windows 7 equipped with an 8 gigabyte RAM.

Rare-earth ion doped crystals for hybrid quantum technologies are an area of growing interest in the solid-state physics community. We have earlier theoretically proposed a hybrid scheme of a mechanical resonator which is fabricated out of a rare-earth doped mono-crystalline structure. The rare-earth ion dopants have absorption energies which are sensitive to crystal strain, and it is thus possible to couple the ions to the bending motion of the crystal cantilever. This type of resonator can be useful for either investigating the laws of quantum physics with material objects or for applications such as sensitive force-sensors. Here, we present the design and fabrication method based on focused-ion-beam etching techniques which we have successfully employed in order to create such microscale resonators, as well as the design of the environment which will allow studying the quantum behavior of the resonators.

The cells of origin of neurogenic heterotopic ossifications(NHOs), which develop frequently in the periarticular muscles following spinal cord injuries(SCIs) and traumatic brain injuries, remain unclear because skeletal muscle harbors two progenitor cell populations: satellite cells(SCs), which are myogenic, and fibroadipogenic progenitors(FAPs), which are mesenchymal. Lineage-tracing experiments using the Cre recombinase/Lox P system were performed in two mouse strains with the fluorescent protein Zs Green specifically expressed in either SCs or FAPs in skeletal muscles under the control of the Pax7 or Prrx1 gene promoter, respectively. These experiments demonstrate that following muscle injury, SCI causes the upregulation of PDGFRα expression on FAPs but not SCs and the failure of SCs to regenerate myofibers in the injured muscle, with reduced apoptosis and continued proliferation of muscle resident FAPs enabling their osteogenic differentiation into NHOs. No cells expressing Zs Green under the Prrx1 promoter were detected in the blood after injury, suggesting that the cells of origin of NHOs are locally derived from the injured muscle. We validated these findings using human NHO biopsies. PDGFRα+mesenchymal cells isolated from the muscle surrounding NHO biopsies could develop ectopic human bones when transplanted into immunocompromised mice, whereas CD56+myogenic cells had a much lower potential. Therefore, NHO is a pathology of the injured muscle in which SCI reprograms FAPs to undergo uncontrolled proliferation and differentiation into osteoblasts.

Introduction: Breast cancer is currently the most common malignant tumour in women worldwide. Objective: To evaluate conservative treatment of breast cancer and oncoplasty at the teaching hospital Mother and Child of jeanne Ebori Foundation (CHUMEFJE). Patients and methods: This is an observational, descriptive study, which took place from August 2019 to December 2021 at CHUMEFJE. Data were collected using patients’ medical records, and operative and pathological anatomy reports. Results: Conservative treatment and oncoplasty were performed in 12 (34.2%) patients. Of these patients, 8 (66.7%) benefited from an external technique and 2 (16.7%) from a pamectomy. Post-operative complications were dominated by lymphocele in 5 (41.6%) patients. Ten (83.3%) patients were satisfied with the post-operative aesthetic result. At the time of updating the records, 1 (8.3%) patient had died and 11 (91.7%) were alive. Conclusion: Conservative treatment and oncoplasty are giving satisfactory results at the CHUMEFJE in Libreville.

AIM:To look at a comprehensive picture of etiology- dependent gene abnormalities in hepatocellular carcinoma in Western Europe. METHODS:With a liver-oriented microarray,transcript levels were compared in nodules and cirrhosis from a training set of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (alcoholism,12;hepatitis C,10)and 5 *** or tight selection of informative transcripts with an abnormal abundance was statistically valid and the tightly selected transcripts were next quantified by qRTPCR in the nodules from our training set(12+10) and a test set(6+7). RESULTS:A selection of 475 transcripts pointed to significant gene over-representation on chromosome 8 (alcoholism)or-2(hepatitis C)and ontology indicated a predominant inflammatory response(alcoholism)or changes in cell cycle regulation,transcription factors and interferon responsiveness(hepatitis C).A stringent selection of 23 transcripts whose differences betweenetiologies were significant in nodules but not in cirrhotic tissue indicated that the above dysregulations take place in tumor but not in the surrounding *** 23 transcripts separated our test set according to etiologies. The inflammation-associated transcripts pointed to limited alterations of free iron metabolism in alcoholic vs hepatitis C tumors. CONCLUSION:Etiology-specific abnormalities(chromo- some preference;differences in transcriptomes and related functions)have been identified in hepatocellular carcinoma driven by alcoholism or hepatitis *** may open novel avenues for differential therapies in this disease.

Recent proteogenomic approaches have led to the discovery that regions of the transcriptome previously annotated as non-coding regions[i.e.,untranslated regions(UTRs),open reading frames overlapping annotated coding sequences in a different reading frame,and non-coding RNAs]frequently encode proteins,termed alternative proteins(altProts).This suggests that previously identified protein–protein interaction(PPI)networks are partially incomplete because altProts are not present in conventional protein ***,we used the proteogenomic resource OpenProt and a combined spectrum-and peptide-centric analysis for the re-analysis of a highthroughput human network proteomics dataset,thereby revealing the presence of 261 altProts in the *** found 19 genes encoding both an annotated(reference)and an alternative protein interacting with each *** the 117 altProts encoded by pseudogenes,38 are direct interactors of reference proteins encoded by their respective parental ***,we experimentally validate several interactions involving *** data improve the blueprints of the human PPI network and suggest functional roles for hundreds of altProts.

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the sickle cell trait carriage is estimated at 25%. Routine neonatal screening is not a common practice, leading to a very late diagnosis. In this study, the screening of pregnant women was assessed as well as their attitudes. This is an analytical cross-sectional study conducted in 245 pregnant women, sampled by convenience in four hospitals in Kisangani city (Democratic Republic of Congo) and screened using the sickle SCAN® test, from February 1 to July 31, 2019. The sensitivity and specificity of the latter were determined using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry as the gold standard. The attitudes of 240 pregnant women without previous screening history were assessed upon the announcement of the results. The sensitivity of screening for hemoglobin (Hb) AA and Hb AS was 96.69% and 98.39%, respectively;while the specificities were 99.43% and 96.32%, respectively. The Kappa coefficient (κ) was excellent. Concerning attitudes, Hb SS pregnant women and 55.17% of AS pregnant women worried when the results relating to their hemoglobin status were announced. The sickle SCAN® test was found reliable for sickle cell disease screening in Kisangani. The announcement of the results, mainly positive, raises worry among pregnant woman. Therefore, we recommend the involvement of a clinician psychologist for pre-screening counselling and for results announcement, as well as early newborns and unmarried teenage girls screening.

The placenta abruptio is an extremely serious pathology which involves the maternal-fetal prognosis. We report the case of a 19-year-old patient who consulted for abdominopelvic pain associated with heavy vaginal bleeding on 19SA in a context of arterial hypertension. The symptomatology suddenly worsened with the onset of hemorrhagic shock, which prompted an emergency hysterotomy. The diagnosis of placenta abruptio grade III b of SHER was evoked. Uterine atony was objectified intraoperatively and uterine compression by the B-Lynch technique was performed. The evolution of the patient was favorable after a stay of 5 days in intensive care.
