Dear editor,Radiotherapy is a cornerstone in the management of anal or rectal cancer. Because elderly patients are often excluded from clinical trials, little is known about radiotherapy’s therapeutic index (efficacy/toxicity ratio) in the geriatric population [1]. Still, the ageing of population imposes the challenge to treat older cancer patients and probably to adjust their treatment [2]. A few studies reported data on radiation-induced toxicities in nonagenarian patients, but data on efficacy are still scarce. For rectal cancer, preoperative radiotherapy programs were suggested to be feasible in elderly patients [3–5], with a preference for short protocols without chemotherapy [4]. For anal cancer, the safety of radiochemotherapy was only reported in limited sets of elderly patients [6]. The objective of the present study was to report efficacy and toxicity data on the radiotherapy treatment of nonagenarian patients with anal or rectal *** analyzed the data of 34 nonagenarian patients with anal or rectal cancers: 27 (79.4%) with a rectal adenocarcinoma and 7 (20.6%) with an anal canal squamous cell carcinoma.

Objective:To evaluate the anti-infectious and antioxidant activities of hydroethanolic extract of Canarium schweinfurthii on broiler chickens infected by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium,known to be threatening public ***:Animals were divided into six groups of eight animals per group:the normal control group,negative control group,positive control group and three test groups receiving the plant extract at 5,19 and 75 mg/kg bw,*** evolution of the disease as well as the effectiveness of the treatment were monitored by stool culture from the second day post infection until the end of the *** addition,the effects of treatment on growth performances and feed conversion efficiency of broilers were *** the assessment of antioxidant status,enzymatic and non-enzymatic biomarkers such as catalase,glutathione peroxidase,malondialdehyde and nitric oxide were evaluated in the serum and tissues of ***:The infected chickens treated with oxytetracycline recovered on day 7 after treatment,while animals treated with 19 and 75 mg/kg of Canarium schweinfurthii extract recovered on day 9 and those with 5 mg/kg of the extract on day *** infection caused a decrease on catalase and glutathione peroxidase activities;the administration of various doses of Canarium schweinfurthii extract increased these enzymatic *** receiving the extract at 5 mg/kg showed a significant increase in catalase activity in serum,heart and lungs while all concentrations of the extract significantly increased glutathione peroxidase activity in the serum,liver and *** non-enzymatic biomarkers,Salmonella infection caused a significant increase of nitric oxide and malondialdehyde concentration in the liver and *** with 75 mg/kg of the extract significantly reduced nitric oxide concentration in the heart and lungs while each dose of the extract reduced and normalized the malondialdehyde level in the serum.A

Intrigued by videos of erupting geysers, we wished to find out how these wonders of nature work. The questions we asked were: how does a geyser operate? What causes its periodicity? What are its different eruptive phases? To answer these questions, we built a model of a geyser of variable height, while respecting the main characteristics of natural geysers. Using the model, we collected pressure and temperature data with sensors and a data acquisition card. In particular, we discovered how the duration of an eruptive cycle varies, why there is overpressure at the beginning of an eruption, and why some eruptions begin normally but then shift to a continuous boiling regime without replenishment. We also provide models for depressurization and for replenishment.

The present study investigates the changes in TEC(total electron content)and ionospheric scintillation index(S4)inferred from the GNSS data recorded at the SCINDA station of Abidjan(Latitude=5.34°N,Longitude=3.90°W)during and after a solar *** the course of 2014,a year of high solar activity,three(3)cases of extreme(X1.66)and moderate(M6.23 and M2.13)solar flares recorded in the months of September and December effects on the ionosphere have been studied using the X ray fluxes,the magnetic parameters(Vx,Bz,Dst),the ionospheric scintillation index S4 and TEC and its ROT(time rate of change).The ROT exhibits a prominent peak between ten(10)and twelve(12)minutes after the occurrence of the maximum peak of the time rate of change of the X-ray flux emitted during the *** ROT maximum value occurs simultaneously with an enhancement of the S4 *** perturbations of the solar flare on the TEC in the SCINDA station of Abidjan occur within 42 to 54 hours after an M-class solar flare and within 46 to 58 hours following an X-Class solar *** magnetic storms resulted from these flares show an increment of 20%on VTEC observed when compared to the average VTEC()computed from the most five(5)quietest days of the selected months.
