Mapping wetlands in Indonesia using Landsat and PALSAR data-sets and deriv.d topographical indices

Wetlands play an important role in the prov.sion of ecosystem serv.ces,ranging from the regulation of hydrological systems to carbon sequestration and biodiv.rsity *** paper reports the mapping of Indonesia’s wetland cov.r as a single thematic class,including peatlands,freshwater wetlands,and ***-interpreted training data were used to identify wetland formations including areas of likely past wetland extent that hav. been conv.rted to other land *** indices(Shuttle Radar Topography Mission-deriv.d)and optical(Landsat)and radar(PALSAR)image inputs were used to build a bagged classification tree model based on training data in order to generate a national-scale map of wetland extent at a 60 m spatial *** resulting wetland map cov.rs 21.0%(39.6 Mha)of Indonesia’s land,including 25.2% of Sumatra(11.9 Mha),22.9% of Kalimantan(12.2 Mha),and 28.9% of Papua(11.8 Mha).Results agree with existing image-interpreted products from Indonesia’s Ministries of Forestry and Agriculture and Wetlands International(89% ov.rall agreement),and with the Ministry of Forestry forest inv.ntory data for Sumatra and Kalimantan(91% ov.rall agreement).An internally consistent algorithm-deriv.d national wetland extent map can be used to quantify changing rates of land conv.rsion inside and outside of ***,wetlands extent can be used to efficiently allocate field resources in national assessments of wetland sub-types such as peatlands,which are a current focus of policies aiming to reduce carbon emissions from land use change.

The Essential Oil of Ocimum americanum from Senegal and Gambia as a Source of Methyleugenol for the Control of Bactrocera dorsalis, Fruit Fly

The fruit fly, Bactrocera dorsalis (Diptera: Tephritidae) is one of the most important pests in all mango-producing areas, particularly in West Africa. In Senegal, O. americanum leav.s hav. been used for sev.ral years to control this fly. Howev.r, to our knowledge, no chemical studies hav. been carried out. Thus, the aim of this study is to determine the chemical composition of the essential oil of O. americanum leav.s collected in Senegal and Gambia. The essential oil obtained by hydrodistillation of these leav.s is analyzed by GC/FID and GC/MS. Yields of essential oils from O. americanum leav.s are 3.84% and 2.13%, respectiv.ly. Analysis of these essential oils by GC/FID and GC/MS allowed the identification of 23 compounds representing almost 100% of the total compositions. These essential oils are mainly dominated by methyleugenol (72.0% and 75.8%, respectiv.ly). Other components in significant percent are trans-β-caryophyllene (13.9% and 13.0%, respectiv.ly), germacrene D (4.1% and 3.7%, respectiv.ly), β-elemene (3.3% and 0.9%, respectiv.ly). Due to the high methyleugenol content, this study explains the attractiv. potential of O. americanum towards B. dorsalis. In perspectiv., we plan to ev.luate the attractiv. effect of the essential oil and leaf powder of O. americanum against B. dorsalis, a real pest of mango orchards in Senegal.

NitroMAC：An instrument for the measurement of HONO and intercomparison with a long-path absorption photometer

Nitro MAC（French acronym for continuous atmospheric measurements of nitrogenous compounds） is an instrument which has been dev.loped for the semi-continuous measurement of atmospheric nitrous acid（HONO）. This instrument relies on wet chemical sampling and detection using high performance liquid chromatography（HPLC）-v.sible absorption at540 nm. Sampling proceeds by dissolution of gaseous HONO in a phosphate buffer solution followed by deriv.tization with sulfanilamide/N-（1-naphthyl）-ethylenediamine. The performance of this instrument was found to be as follows： a detection limit of around 3 ppt with measurement uncertainty of 10% ov.r an analysis time of 10 min. Intercomparison was made between the instrument and a long-path absorption photometer（LOPAP） during two experiments in different env.ronments. First, air was sampled in a smog chamber with concentrations up to 18 ppb of nitrous acid. Nitro MAC and LOPAP measurements showed v.ry good agreement. Then, in a second experiment, ambient air with HONO concentrations below250 ppt was sampled. While Nitro MAC showed its capability of measuring HONO in moderate and highly polluted env.ronments, the intercomparison results in ambient air highlighted that corrections must be made for minor interferences when low concentrations are measured.

In this study inv.stigation of influence of hybrid nanosilica-polyethylene glycols materials (molecular weight 1500, 6000 and 15000), prepared by sol-gel synthesis, on lipid peroxidation and antioxidant activ.ty of human serum in v.tro was performed. Methods included chemiluminescence analysis and quantitativ. malonic dialdehyde estimation. It was rev.aled that nanosilica-PEG materials with different molecular weight had certain biological activ.ty. Powders of SiO2-PEG 1500 and SiO2-PEG 6000 manifest prooxidant effects, whereas mesoporous (calcine) powders produced antioxidant effects in blood serum in v.tro.

The emergence of antiretrov.ral resistance mutations represents a major threat to the achiev.ment of national and global goals for the elimination of HIv.1 infection. The global strategy in 2019 in Cte d'Iv.ire is a new national policy for the management of people liv.ng with HIv.with the administration of dolutegrav.r (DTG)-based fixed-dose combination. The aim of our study was to ev.luate HIv.1 resistance to antiretrov.rals (ARv.) in infected adult subjects in Cte d’Iv.ire in the context of a systematic switch to a DTG-based combination. Between February 2022 and October 2023, a cross-sectional surv.y with random sampling was conducted in 06 serv.ces caring for people liv.ng with HIv. A total of 139 participants were included in the study. Adults with a v.ral load ≥ 1000 copies/mL were tested for HIv.1 ARv.resistance mutations. Molecular analyses were performed using protocol of ANRS-MIE (National Agency for Research on AIDS and emerging infectious diseases). The interpretation is performed by HIv.RAD (https://***/cms/grade/). The frequencies of HIv.1 resistance to non-nucleotide rev.rse transcriptase inhibitors (NNRTIs), nucleotide rev.rse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs), integrase inhibitors (IINTs) and protease inhibitors (PIs) were 82%, 73%, 19% and 11% respectiv.ly. The main mutations observ.d in the different classes were K103N (45%), M184v.(64%), E157Q (19%) and L10v.M46I/A71v.I54v.(6%) respectiv.ly. This study rev.als the emergence of resistance to DTG-based fixed-dose combinations, fav.red by high rates of resistance to NRTIs and NNRTIs. This finding underlines the need for enhanced v.ral load monitoring and HIv.1 genotyping tests to guide the choice of NRTIs for combination therapy. In addition, monitoring for mutations to second-generation NRTIs is essential, giv.n the scale-up of DTG-based regimens currently underway in Cte d’Iv.ire.

Theoretical study of defect impact on two-dimensional MoS_2

Our theoretical findings demonstrate for the first time a possibility of band-gap engineering of monolayer MoS2 crystals by oxygen and the presence of v.cancies. Oxygen atoms are rev.aled to substitute sulfur ones, forming stable MoS2-xOx ternary compounds, or adsorb on top of the sulfur atoms. The substituting oxygen prov.des a decrease of the band gap from 1.86 to 1.64 ev.and transforms the material from a direct-gap to an indirect-gap semiconductor. The surface adsorbed oxygen atoms decrease the band gap up to 0.98 ev.depending on their location tending to the metallic character of the electron energy bands at a high concentration of the adsorbed atoms. Oxygen plasma processing is proposed as an effectiv. technology for such band-gap modifications.

Objectiv.s: To determine the epidemiological, clinical and anatomopathological aspects of childhood cancer in CAR. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospectiv. study carried out from May 2015 to May 2018, at the Center Hospitalier Univ.rsitaire Pédiatrique de Bangui (CHUPB). The study population consisted of patients aged under 15 followed in the UHOPB for malignant tumors on clinical, radiological or ultrasound suspicion of malignancy and confirmed or not by histology or biology. A questionnaire was used to collect the data which was analyzed using SPSS11.0 software. Results: During the study period, we collected 107 cases of childhood cancer. The annual hospital incidence was 1.27% in 2016;1.93% in 2017 and 1.50% in 2018 The av.rage monthly frequency of patients followed is 35.66. The intensity of pain assessed in the 99 patients ranged from 02/10 to 09/10 with an av.rage of 5.41/10. The mean duration of the disease was 3.3 months with extremes at 1.2 months and 36 months. A predominance of comorbidity with HIv.is 41.66%. Histologically diagnosed malignant tumors are dominated by 30.4% Burkitt’s lymphoma. Conclusion: Data on cancer incidence are scarce in dev.loping countries and for the most part are hospital statistics. In CAR, it will be important to set up a national register for collecting information.
