In this study, we ev.luated the anti-cancer property of fiv. bark extracts and the isolates from chloroform and ethyl acetate of Annickia chlorantha by the tetrazolium salt method (MTT method). The anti-cancer activ.ty was performed on human prostate cancer cell lines PC-3 and hormone-dependent breast cancer cell lines MCF-7. Results indicated that the two isolates displayed interesting cytotoxicity towards MCF-7 cell lines with CC50 of 3.84 CC50/mL and 4.87 CC50/mL for chloroform and ethyl acetate respectiv.ly;while the total bark extracts showed CC50 of 24.33 CC50/mL, 36.49 CC50/ mL and 73.52 CC50/mL for chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts respectiv.ly. By the other hand on PC-3, the CC50 of the isolates were higher than the one on MCF-7, more than 10 CC50/mL for both chloroform and ethyl acetate isolates and 49.14 CC50/mL, 77.33 CC50/mL, 89.38 CC50/mL and 92.37 CC50/mL, respectiv.ly for chloroform, ethyl acetate and methanol soluble extracts. From this study, we identified that the two isolates had anti-cancer properties against MCF-7 cell lines.

History: Pediatric management of HIv.infection in children in the Central African Republic began in 2004 with the use of fractionated adult antiretrov.rals and Cotrimoxazole. It has ev.lv.d ov.r the years with the use of pediatric forms, oral suspensions and dispersible tablets. The transition to Dolutegrav.r took place in 2020. The activ. file of our patients will grow from 78 to ov.r 1900 today. Follow-up examinations are carried out to assess adherence to treatment. Objectiv.: To determine the immunov.rological profile and factors associated with treatment failure during follow-up of children on ART at the Bangui pediatric univ.rsity hospital. Patients and Method: This was a cross-sectional, analytical study from May 30 to December 02, 2022. The study sample was drawn from a cohort of HIv.1-infected children followed up at the Bangui pediatric univ.rsity hospital and on ART for three semesters who met the selection criteria. Results: The prev.lence of treatment failure v.ried from one semester to the next. Thus, the prev.lence of therapeutic failure was 20% in the first semester, 10% in the second semester and 7% in the third semester. The prev.lence of v.rological failure was 10.28% in the first half of the year, 6.91% in the second half and 4.98% in the third. Secondly, immunological failure was 0.48% in the first half of the year, 0.32% in the second 0.64% in the third half. Finally, clinical failure was 8.82% in the first half, 4.82% in the second half, 1.92% in the third half. Socio-demographic and clinical factors associated with treatment failure were male gender (p 1000 copies/ml (p Conclusion: The occurrence of treatment failures in children is a major problem, especially in our resource-limited countries, giv.n the challenges facing antiretrov.ral therapy. It is therefore necessary to carry out a study on resistance genotyping in order to propose correct management protocols, as the future of treatment programs depends on it.

Background: Human African trypanosomiasis (HAT) occurs in three historical foci in the Central African Republic. Objectiv.: To describe the morbi-mortality of childhood HAT in rural Central African Republic with the aim of early management. Methods: Descriptiv. and analytic cross-sectional study conducted from January 1, 2017 to March 30, 2018 at Nola prefectural hospital. This study was included all children seen as outpatients and/or hospitalized in the pediatric wards, in whom the diagnosis of HAT was confirmed. Statistical analysis was performed using Epi-info software. Results: Forty children were included from Bilolo (60%), Nola (30%) and Salo (10%). The sex ratio was 0.66 with a median age of 8.65 ± 12.48 years. Fev.r (82.5%), nocturnal insomnia (75%), daytime somnolence (67.5%), headache (65%), polyarthralgia (62.5%), conv.lsions 52.5% (n = 21), tremor (27.5%), trypanidism (7.5%) and delirium (2.5%) were the main functional signs. Examination signs were adenopathy (52.5%), paresthesia (30%), decreased cutaneous-abdominal reflexes (25%) and osteoarticular reflexes (17.5%), hyperesthesia (20%), extrapyramidal hypertonia (15%) and depression (2.5%). The children were in the lymphatic-blood phase in 65% of cases, and meningoencephalitis in 35%. Pentamidine was administered in 65% of cases. Four children died and 6 had neurological sequelae. There was an association between age under 5, Bilolo’s focus, the children’s history and the sev.rity of the disease. Age under 5, gender, household, children’s activ.ty, history and occurrence of sequelae were also associated. Conclusion: HAT remains a permanent threat to Central African children. Any clinical presentation combining long-term infectious signs and unexplained neurological or neuropsychological disorders must be treated with caution.

This study aims to quantify the susceptibility of granular materials used in pav.ments to changes in moisture content and propose a correlation model to incorporate this susceptibility into seasonal *** fines content and the percentage of fractured coarse aggregates were identified as direct indicators of the resilient modulus susceptibility to changes in water *** results showed that the percentage of fractured coarse aggregates particles(FR)has a more significant impact on the resilient modulus(Er)of crushed granular materials used in pav.ment construction than the combined indicator of the fines content and sample v.lumetrics(nf).Crushed granular materials with a higher percentage of fractured coarse aggregates are relativ.ly insensitiv. to changes in the degree of saturation,but become more sensitiv. as the fine fraction porosity *** adjusted model was proposed based on the existing formulation,but considers a complex parameter to describe and adjust the sensitiv.ty of base granular materials to v.riations in moisture content with respect to fabrication charac-teristics,fines content and v.lumetric *** model shows that the v.riation of Er v.lues is below10%for fully crushed granular ***,it reaches approximately±12%for materials with 75%of crushed coarse aggregates andþ40%and-25%for materials with FR=50%.This model could help select good ag-gregates characteristics and adjust grain-size distribution for env.ronments where significant moisture content v.riations can occur in the pav.ment system,such as in the Prov.nce of Quebec(Canada).As it is based on pa-rameters that can be easily determined or estimated,it also represents a v.luable tool for detailed design and analysis that can consider material characteristics.

Background: The ev.lutionary profile of patients operated for peptic ulcer perforation in Bujumbura. Perforated peptic ulcer is a serious complication of peptic ulcer with potential risk of grav. complications. Aim: To study the early morbidity and mortality of surgery for peptic ulcer perforation in Bujumbura City Hall hospitals: Kamenge Univ.rsity Hospital Center (CHUK), Kamenge Military Hospital (HMK) and Prince Louis Rwagasore Clinic (CPLR). Patients and methods: This is a retrospectiv., descriptiv. and analytical study carried out in the three hospitals of Bujumbura ov.r a period of three years from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2022. It inv.lv.d 57 cases (n = 57) of peptic ulcer perforation. Results: The frequency of surgery for peptic ulcer perforation was 2.7% with a mean age of 43.6 years +/- 15.3 years and a male predominance with a sex ratio of 3.7. Eight percent of patients presented with shock, 24.5% were smokers, and 67.9% had taken non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. The mean hospital stay was 15.2 days with a standard dev.ation of 12.1. The morbidity rate was 30.2%, 32% were classified in grade IIIb of the Clav.en-Dindo Surgical Complications Scale. There were 9 deaths (17%). Sev.n patients who underwent surgery and receiv.d late consultations died. Conclusion: Surgery for peptic ulcer perforation remains an interv.ntion associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality in Bujumbura. Surgery for peptic ulcer perforation remains a procedure associated with a high morbidity and mortality rate in Bujumbura. The time before consultation was the only factor associated with early morbidity and mortality of Surgery for peptic ulcer’s perforations.

The red fruits of Pseudospondias microcarpa (A. Rich) Engl. are widely consumed by the populations of northern Congo for their sweet and tangy flav.r as well as for their characteristic smell. The objectiv. of this study was to show the food potential of the fruits of this plant for their v.lorization. Organic solv.nt extracts were prepared and subjected to phytochemical screening to determine the nutrients and phytonutrients of this fruit. Raw juice was extracted by trituration without adding water and subjected to physicochemical and biochemical analyses in order to determine its quality and its antiradical activ.ty. The raw juice obtained is moderately acidic (pH 3.28), v.ry cloudy and colored (turbidity of 1019 NTU). It has a dry matter content of 3.771% ± 0.013% reflecting the 70% dominance of water in the weight of the fruit and the presence of dissolv.d organic matter in its juice. Energy nutrients (sugars, amino acids), carotenoids, coumarins, tannins, flav.noids, terpenes and sterols hav. been highlighted as nutrients with therapeutic potential commonly called phytonutrients of this fruit. The juice presented a dominance in polyphenols (134.8500 ± 0.0023 mg gallic acid/100 g) than in carotenoids (5.100 ± 0.010 mg carotene/100 g), high lev.ls of mineral macroelements (calcium: 3570.00 ± 2.05 mg and potassium: 4576.00 ± 9.49 mg) and trace elements (copper: 11.13 ± 0.10 mg, iron: 3.02 ± 0.03 mg and zinc: 2.57 ± 0.08 mg). These compounds exhibited good antioxidant activ.ty. The presence of these nutrients and phytonutrients in these fruits is interesting for the proper functioning of certain organs and the prev.ntion of certain diseases. This fruit is therefore an energizing and functional food that can compete with conv.ntional fruits whose juices are marketed.

After the synthesis of polyaniline in the presence of ferrocenesulfoniccarboxylic acid, its influence on the electrochemical reaction of methanol was studied. The result indicates that the ferrocenyl in ferrocenesulfoniccarboxylic acid plays an important role in the electrocatalytic oxidation of methanol. CH_ 3OH is adsorbed on PANI-Fc before its electrocatalytic oxidation. When the concentration of methanol is 2 mol/L, it begins to be oxidized. The effect of scan rate on the electrochemical reaction of methanol was also studied and 5 mv.s was fav.urable. It is another method to insert a metal catalyst in polyaniline without its electrodeposition.

Background: Non-traumatic coma is the most common pediatric medical emergency. Its clinical diagnosis is easy. The difficulty lies in finding the etiology. Objectiv.: To determine the prev.lence and clinical profiles of non-traumatic Coma at the Centre Hospitalier Univ.rsitaire Pédiatrique de Bangui (CHUPB). Methodology: This was a descriptiv. and analytical cross-sectional study conducted between January 1 and June 31, 2021, at CHUPB. Children aged 1 month to 15 years, admitted to the emergency room with a Glasgow score less than or equal to 8 without any traumatism were included. The v.riables studied were sociodemographic, clinical and paraclinical. Data were entered and analyzed using SPSS 20.0 statistical software. The statistical test used was Pearson’s chi2, any p-v.lue Results: Of 8551 children hospitalized during the study period, 370 were hospitalized for non-traumatic coma: 4.32%. They were div.ded into 57.5% (n = 213) boys and 42.44% (n = 157) girls, giv.ng a sex ratio of 1.35. Their mean age was 35.95 ± 27.21 months. Children aged 1 to 24 months represented 54.59% (n = 202) of cases. The mean time to the consultation was 2.91 days ± 1.8. Fev.r 86.48% (n = 320) and conv.lsions 80% (n = 296) were the main reasons for consultation. Coma stages II - III and Iv.represented 52.44% (n = 194), 42.97% (n = 159) and 4.59% (n = 17) respectiv.ly. Neuromalaria (29.72%;n = 110), meningitis-meningoencephalitis-encephalitis (30%;n = 111), sepsis (19.72%;n = 73) and acidosis Coma (5.40%;n = 20) were the main etiologies. Conclusion: Non-traumatic coma is common at CHUPB. Infections were the main etiology, particularly cerebral malaria. The reduction of its frequency requires, among others, the strengthening of the national monitoring malaria program. The strengthening of the technical platform for a good etiological diagnosis constitutes the other axis of prev.ntion.

Despite the widespread domestic use of pyrethroid insecticides, v.ry few cases of poisoning are reported in the literature, especially in children. The manifestations are generally benign, and the management is controv.rsial. We report a case of sev.re intoxication in a 2-month-old infant, initially treated as bronchiolitis, which progressed fav.rably under atropine. This case illustrates on the one hand the importance of looking for the notion of a spray in the sudden onset of respiratory distress in the infant, and on the other hand monitoring any intoxication with pyrethroids in a small infant in order to consider a treatment with atropine sulfate in case of the occurrence of a muscarinic syndrome.
