Background:The current mainstay for control/elimination of onchocerciasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis(STH)relies on ivermectin-and mebendazole/albendazole-based preventive ***,children under fve years of age have been excluded in both research activities and control programs,because they were believed to have insignifcant infection *** is therefore a need for up-to-date knowledge on the prevalence and inten‑sity of STH and onchocerciasis infections in this age *** study aimed at assessing the rates and intensities of onchocerciasis and STH infections in children under fve years of age who are excluded from ivermectin-or mebenda‑zole/albendazole-based preventive ***:A series of cross-sectional surveys was conducted in four Health Districts in the Centre and Littoral Regions of Cameroon between 2018 and *** subjects aged 2 to 4 years,were screened for prevalence(or infection rate)and intensity[number of eggs per gram of stool(epg)or number of microflariae per skin snip(mf/ss)]of STH and onchocerciasis infections respectively using the Kato-Katz and skin snip ***-square and the nonparametric tests(Mann Whitney and Kruskal Wallis)were used to compare infection rates and intensities of infections between Health Districts and genders,***:A total of 421 children were enrolled in this *** overall prevalence of onchocerciasis was 6.6%[95% confdence interval(CI):4.3‒9.9],ranging from 3.6%(in the Ntui Health District)to 12.2%(in the Bafa Health District).The intensity of infection ranged from 0.5 to 46 microflariae per skin snip[median:5;interquartile range(IQR):2.25‒8.5].The overall prevalence of STH was 9.6%(95%CI:6.5‒13.9),with a high infection rate(29.6%)in the Akonolinga Health *** STH species(Ascaris lumbricoides and Trichuris trichiura)were found among infected *** median intensities of STH infections were 1,992 epg(IQR:210‒28,704)and 96 epg(IQR:48‒

The simulation by the Monte Carlo method executed by the software PyPENELOPE proved effective to specify the particle propagation characteristics by calculating the absorption fractions, backscattering and transmission of electrons and secondary photons under the incidence of 0.5 to 20 KeV range of primary electrons. More than 99.9% of the primary electrons were transmitted in the 125 nm thick MgO/TiO2 material at 20 KeV. This occurred because several interactions took place in the transmitted primary irradiation such as characteristic, fluorescence, and bremsstrahlung produced when of the occupation of the KL3, KL2, KM3, and KM2 shell and sub-shell of titanium and magnesium which are the elements with a high atomic number in the material. The transmission particle characteristic of this material is therefore an indicator capable of improving the electrical performance and properties of the sensor.

The objective of this article is to show the influence of mobile phone use while driving on the performance of petroleum product drivers in *** topical questioning centred on the series of accidents and near misses in general and specifically in the petroleum products sector and showed the need to look for other *** do so,we conceptually proposed a model derived from the literature review and adjusted by practical research,which shows that our approach is the hypothetico-deductive ***,the observations from the experience of 90 questionnaires were operationalized using multivariate logistic regression *** results indicate that making or receiving calls while driving significantly influences the occurrence of reckless driving *** and sending short message service(SMS or text messages)while driving negatively influences drivers’performance by increasing delivery *** type of phone used has an effect on the risk of accidents or near ***,drivers who use smartphones are 2.14 times more likely to experience crash-like events compared to those who use conventional mobile *** addition,with a view to reducing near misses and accidents,it is important to organize regular appropriate road safety campaigns,to install on-board cameras in all trucks,to provide rest areas and encourage drivers to stop at these areas to check their phones and catch up on missed *** to introduce training for drivers in defensive driving with a renewable licence after a maximum of 2 years.

Detection of the Production of Klebsiella Pneumoniae Carbapenemase, New Delhi Metallo-Beta-Lactamase and Oxacillinase-48-Type Carbapenemases by Gram-Negative Bacilli in Resource-Limited Setting

Background: The increasing resistance of bacteria to various antibiotics is a worldwide public health issue. Carbapenems that have elicited great hope in treating infections caused by multidrug-resistant germs have seen their efficacy narrowed over time with the emergence of other novel resistance mechanisms, notably the production of Carbapenemases. Methods: A prospective cross-sectional study was conducted from May 2017 to May 2018 in Douala (Cameroon) to detect carbapenemase-producing Gram-negative bacilli. Isolated strains were identified using the Vitek2TM system. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was performed using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method on agar plates with 20 selected commercially available antibiotic discs. The bacterial strains were tested for the production of three Carbapenemases (OXA-48, NDM, KPC), using an immuno-chromatographic technique, with the “RESIST-3 O.K.N. K-SeT” rapid detection kit. Results: During the study period, 1687 strains of Gram-negative bacilli were isolated in selected laboratories with a total of 200 multi-resistant strains identified (11.9%). Among the multi-resistant strains, E. coli was the species most represented in Enterobacteriaceae (27.5%) followed by K. pneumoniae (15.5%) and the non-fermenting Gram-negative bacilli were predominantly P. aeruginosa (20.5%). These strains mainly came from urine and pus, i.e. 41% and 32% respectively. Thirty-two (16%) strains produced one of the Carbapenemases with a higher frequency at the General Hospital (84%). NDM-type carbapenemase was the most frequently identified (8.5%), OXA-48 type 7.5%, and no KPC production was observed. Among the Enterobacteriaceae 22.9% produced Carbapenemases and only 5.1% of the non-fermenting bacilli produced these enzymes. Epidemiological Patterns of Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders among Healthcare Workers in Five Reference Hospitals in the City of Douala, Cameroon

Introduction: Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) are a public health problem and have forced many workers to quit their jobs prematurely. This study investigated the prevalence and risk factors of WRMSDs among Healthcare workers in five reference hospitals in the City of Douala-Cameroon. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2022 among 561 healthcare workers working in five reference hospitals in the city of Douala, Cameroon. Participants were selected using a convenient sampling technique. Data were collected with structured questionnaires;data on the demographics and risk factors were collected using a well-designed questionnaire, while estimation of the prevalence of WRMSDs was done using the Modified Nordic questionnaire. Results: The overall prevalence rate of WRMSDs among healthcare workers in Douala hospitals was 83.4% (468/561). The prevalence per professional groups was as follows: 88.8% (71) for Medical Laboratory Scientists (MLS), 81.9% (289) for nurses, 21 (80.8%) for Physiotherapists (PTs) and 78.8% (41) for Medical Doctors (MDs). There was a significant difference (p = 0.001) in the prevalence of WRMSDs with respect to place of work where healthcare workers from HLD recorded the highest prevalence 89.9%, while Healthcare workers from NBDH were 2.91 times at risk (AOR = 2.91;95% CI: 1.32 - 6.41;p = 0.001) to develop WRMSDs than healthcare workers in the other hospitals. With respect to body region, the highest prevalence of WRMSDs was recorded on the lower back, 58.8% with the lowest at the elbows 11.2%. The age group 30 to 39 years was significantly associated with WRMSDs at level of the shoulder (p = 0.002), upper back (p = 0.019), elbows (p Conclusion: The overall prevalence rate of WRMSDs among healthcare workers in Douala hospitals was high.
