Comparative detection of syndecan-2 methylation in preoperative and postoperative stool DNA in patients with colorectal cancer

BACKGROUND Early detection of colorectal cancer(CRC)is essential to reduce cancer-related morbidity and *** DNA(sDNA)testing is an emerging method for early CRC ***-2(SDC2)methylation is a potential biomarker for the sDNA *** DNA methylation is an early epigenetic event during tumorigenesis and can occur in the normal colonic mucosa during aging,which can compromise the sDNA test *** In this prospective study,we enrolled 151 patients with CRC who underwent curative surgical resection between September 2016 and May *** stool samples were collected from 123 patients and postoperative samples were collected from 122 patients.A total of 104 samples were collected from both preoperative and postoperative *** promoter methylation of SDC2 in sDNA was assessed using linear target enrichment quantitative methylation-specific real-time polymerase chain *** parameters were analyzed using the results of SDC2 *** Detection rates of SDC2 methylation in the preoperative and postoperative stool samples were 88.6%and 19.7%,*** tumor size(3 cm,P=0.019)and advanced T stage(T3–T4,P=0.033)were positively associated with the detection rate of SDC2 methylation before *** sex was associated with false positives after surgery(P=0.030).Cycle threshold(CT)values were significantly decreased postoperatively compared with preoperative values(P<0.001).The postoperative negative conversion rate for preoperatively methylated SDC2 was 79.3%(73/92).CONCLUSION Our results suggested that the SDC2 methylation test for sDNA has acceptable sensitivity and ***,small size and early T stage tumors are associated with a low detection rate of SDC2 *** the cycle threshold values significantly decreased after surgery,SDC2 methylation test for sDNA might have a diagnostic value for CRC.

Analysis of the Sloshing Flows of a LNG Cargo Tank

The sloshing flows in a LNG cargo tank model （1/50 scale） of a ship are measured by an embedded pano- ramicPIV system. The measurement system consists of a Nd-Yag laser（120mJ, 15Hz）, two cameras（lk x lk） and a host computer. Four experimental cases were tested for the tank model, in which swaying motions are made by a 6 DOF-motion platform. The amplitudes of swaying are 9.76mm and 29.29mm, and the swaying frequencies are 0.633Hz and 0.828Hz. The measurement regions are the vertical plane 50ram away from the front wall of the tank where a pump tower is installed. It was verified that the flow patterns of the sloshing are similar to each other when the swaying amplitudes are similar.

Velocity Profiles between Two Baffles in a Horizontal Circular Tube

The shell and tube heat exchanger is an essential part of a power plant for recovering heat transfer between the feed water of a boiler and the wasted *** baffles are also an important element inside the heat *** materials influence the flow pattern in the *** influence of baffles in the velocity profiles was observed using a three-dimensional particle image velocimetry around baffles in a horizontal circular *** velocity of the particles was measured before the baffle and between them in the test *** show that the flows near the front baffle flow were parallel to the vertical wall,and then concentrate on the upper opening of the front *** flows circulate in the front and rear *** flow profiles are related to the Reynolds number(Re) or the flow *** velocity profiles at lower Re number showed a complicated mixing,concentrating on the lower opening of the rear baffle as front *** flow was employed in this study,which was produced using tangential velocities at the *** the entrance of the front baffle,the velocity vector profiles with swirl were much different from that without ***,velocities between two baffles are not much different from those without swirl.

In this paper,a system supporting behavioral therapy for autistic children is *** system consists of sensors network,base station and a brooch indicating person's ernotional *** system can be used to measure values of physiological parameters that are associated with changes in the emotional *** the future,it can be useful to inform the autistic child and the therapist about the emotional state of the interlocutor objectively,on the basis of performed *** selected physiological parameters were chosen during the experiment which was designed and conducted by *** this experiment,a group of volunteers under con-trolld conditions was exposed to a stressful situation caused by the picture or *** each of the volunteers,a set of physiological parameters,was recorded,including:skin conductance,heart rate,peripheral temperature,respiration rate and *** bio statistical analysis allowved us to discern the proper plhysiological paraneters that are most associated to changes due to emotional state of a patient,such as:skin conductance,temperatures and res-piration *** allowed us to design electronic sensors network for supporting behavioral therapy for children with autism.

Quantitative comparison of similarity measure and entropy for fuzzy sets

Comparison and data analysis with the similarity measures and entropy for fuzzy sets were carried out. The distance proportional value between the fuzzy set and the corresponding crisp set was considered by the fuzzy entropy. The relation between the similarity measure and the entropy for fuzzy set was also analyzed. The fuzzy entropy was reformulated as the dissimilarity measure. Furthermore, crisp set having the minimum uncertainty with respect to the corresponding fuzzy set was also proposed. Finally, derivation of a similarity measure from entropy with the help of total information property was derived. A simple example shows the relation between similarity measure and fuzzy entropy, in which the summation of similarity measure and fuzzy entropy represents a constant value.

Performace of a Kind of Organic Emulsion Coated Phosphogypsum Particles

The phosphogypsum particles coated with organic emulsion were prepared by coating three kinds of organic emulsion of silicone-acrylic,styrene-acrylic and *** structure and mineralogical characteristics,acid and alkali resistance,water resistance and dissociation degree of coated phosphogypsum were studied by means of SEM-EDAX,optical microscope,gravimetric analysis and chemical *** results showed that the initial emulsion can be used directly for coating and granulation of *** spray re-coating was carried out by using diluted emulsion with the water-to-emulsion mass ratio of 1∶*** organic emulsion coated phosphogypsum crystal can be clearly observed,and the mixing zone at internal boundary between the organic emulsion and phosphogypsum crystal was distinguishable under the optical *** photos showed that the surface of coated phosphogypsum particles was *** the basic elements of C,O,S and Ca can be detected by *** emulsion can be solidified into film-network between the phosphogypsum crystals inside of the coated particles,and it can play a protective role in improving the acid resistance,alkali resistance and water resistance of phosphogypsum,and reduce the degree of dissociation of phosphogypsum in water.

The change of anterior segment parameters after cataract surgery in normal-tension glaucoma

AIM： To investigate the change of anterior chamber angle morphology and intraocular pressure （lOP） reduction after cataract surgery in patients with normal-tension glaucoma （NTG） using swept-source optical coherence tomography （SS-OCT）. METHODS： This prospective, comparative, observational study recruited patients into two groups. Group 1 was the control group including normal subjects except those with cataracts （cataract group, n=67 eyes of 67 patients）, and group 2 was NTG group including patients who were diagnosed with NTG and cataracts （n=43 eyes of 43 patients）, which were treated with phacoemulsification and intraocular lens implantation. Before surgery, and at postoperative 1 and 6too, anterior chamber angles were evaluated by SS-OCT under dark conditions using three- dimensional angle analysis scan protocol. Angle opening distance （AOD）, angle recess area （ARA）, and trabecular- iris surface area （TISA） at four quadrants （temporal, nasal, superior, and inferior） were calculated automatically by SS-OGT, after the observer marked scleral spurs. RESULTS： A total of 106 patients （54 males and 52 females） were enrolled in the study. Angle parameters, AOD, ARA, and TISA were increased after surgery in both groups. However, changes of angle parameters were only significant in group 2. In group 2, preoperative lOP was 13.2＋2.9 mm Hg, and postoperative lOP at 1 and 6mo were 10.5＋3.0 and 10.7＋2.8 mm Hg, respectively. In group 1, preoperative lOP was 12.42.8 mm Hg, and postoperative lOP at 1 and 6mo were 11.6＋2.5 and 12.0＋2.8 mm Hg, respectively. After cataract surgery, angle parameters changed significantly while IOP significantly reduced and was maintained in group 2 （P〈0.001）. The changes in angle parameters （＆AOD500, ATISAS00 at temporal; ＆AOD500, S, RA500 at nasal） were linearly correlated with postoperative IOP changes. CONCLUSION： Cataract surgery may have improved antedor chamber angle parameters and decreased lOP in NTG patients.

Prevalence of asymptomatic malaria parasitaemia

Objective:To evaluate factors associated with prevalence of malaria parasitaemia at first antenatal care ***:The study was conducted at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital from 1st June,2007 to 31st July,2007.A structured questionnaire was administered to a total of 545 pregnant women that were recruited in this study after obtaining informed consent and two slides of thin and thick films were prepared for each ***:Five hundred and twenty(95.4%) out of the 545 participants suffered from malaria parasitaemia,the rest 4.6%of those who had no parasitaemia had experienced symptomatic malaria before and were treated in private hospitals prior to their recruitment into the *** participants(100%) who did not have antimalarials had parasitaemia compared with 91.1%among those that had *** proportion of moderate to severe parasitaemia was also significantly higher among the ***,the difference in parasitaemia between primigravidae and multigravidae was statistically significant(P=0.000) too. Among the methods used for vector control,only insecticide treated nets(ITNS) was associated with significant reduction in the level of parasitaemia(RR=0.83).Conclusion:Malaria parasitaemia at first booking is significandy higher in primigravidae and women who have no anti-malaria treatment. The use of safe and effective antimalarial treatment along with ITNs will significandy reduce the level of parasitaemia in pregnant women.

Study of fuzzy entropy and similarity measure on intuitionistic fuzzy sets (IFSs) was proposed and analyzed. Unlike fuzzy set, IFSs contain uncertainty named hesitance, which is contained in fuzzy membership function itself. Hence, designing fuzzy entropy is not easy because of many entropy definitions. By considering different fuzzy entropy definitions, fuzzy entropy on IFSs is designed and discussed. Similarity measure was also presented and its usefulness was verified to evaluate degree of similarity.
