Many types of plastic products,including polystyrene,have long been used in commercial and industrial *** and nanoplastics,plastic particles derived from these plastic products,are emerging as environmental pollutants that can pose health risks to a wide variety of living organisms,including ***,it is not well understood how microplastics and nanoplastics affect cellular functions and induce stress *** can be exposed to polystyrene-microplastics and polystyrene-nanoplastics through ingestion,inhalation,or skin *** ingested plastics are excreted from the body,but inhaled plastics may accumulate in the lungs and can even reach the brain via the nose-to-brain ***-sized polystyrene-nanoplastics can enter cells by endocytosis,accumulate in the cytoplasm,and cause various cellular stresses,such as inflammation with increased pro-inflammatory cytokine production,oxidative stress with generation of reactive oxygen species,and mitochondrial *** induce autophagy activation and autophagosome formation,but autophagic flux may be impaired due to lysosomal *** permanently exposed to polystyrene-nanoplastics,they can be removed from cells by exocytosis and subsequently restore cellular ***,neurons are very susceptible to this type of stress,thus even acute exposure can lead to neurodegeneration without *** review focuses specifically on recent advances in research on polystyrene-nanoplastic-induced cytotoxicity and ***,in this review,based on mechanistic studies of polystyrene-nanoplastics at the cellular level other than neurons,future directions for overcoming the negative effects of polystyrene-nanoplastics on neurons were suggested.

Unexpected complication during extracorporeal membrane oxygenation support: Ventilator associated systemic air embolism

Systemic air embolism through a bronchovenous fistu-la(BVF) has been described in patients undergoing positive-pressure ventilation. However, no report has mentioned the potential risks of systemic air embolism through a BVF in patients undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO). Positive-pressure ventilation and ECMO support in patients with lung injury can increase the risk of systemic air embolism through a BVF. Increased alveolar pressure, decreased pulmonary venous pressure, and anticoagulation are thought to be the factors that contribute to this complication. Here, we present a case of systemic air embolism in a patient with ECMO and mechanical ventilator support.

ZnO-Embedded Expanded Graphite Composite Anodes with Controlled Charge Storage Mechanism Enabling Operation of Lithium-Ion Batteries at Ultra-Low Temperatures

As lithium(Li)-ion batteries expand their applications,operating over a wide temperature range becomes increasingly ***,the lowtemperature performance of conventional graphite anodes is severely hampered by the poor diffusion kinetics of Li ions(Li^(+)).Here,zinc oxide(ZnO) nanoparticles are incorporated into the expanded graphite to improve Li^(+)diffusion kinetics,resulting in a significant improvement in lowtemperature *** ZnO-embedded expanded graphite anodes are investigated with different amounts of ZnO to establish the structurecharge storage mechanism-performance relationship with a focus on lowtemperature *** analysis reveals that the ZnOembedded expanded graphite anode with nano-sized ZnO maintains a large portion of the diffusion-controlled charge storage mechanism at an ultra-low temperature of-50℃ Due to this significantly enhanced Li^(+)diffusion rate,a full cell with the ZnO-embedded expanded graphite anode and a LiNi_(0.88)Co_(0.09)Al_(0.03)O_(2)cathode delivers high capacities of 176 mAh g^(-1)at20℃ and 86 mAh g^(-1)at-50℃ at a high rate of 1 *** outstanding low-temperature performance of the composite anode by improving the Li^(+)diffusion kinetics provides important scientific insights into the fundamental design principles of anodes for low-temperature Li-ion battery operation.

Uniform assembly of gold nanoparticles on S-doped g-C3N4 nanocomposite for effective conversion of 4-nitrophenol by catalytic reduction

In this work,a simple synthesis of sulfur doped graphitic carbon nitride(S-g-C3N4)act as a support cum stabilizers for gold nanoparticles(Au)and its was characterized by UV–vis and XRD to measure the absorbance and crystallinity,*** functional group and morphology of the samples were identified using FT-IR and ***,the Au@S-g-C3N4 nanocatalyst exhibits good catalytic performance and stability in the reduction of hazardous 4-nitrophenol(NP)compared to S-g-C3N4 using Na ***,the Au@S-g-C3N4 nanocomposite holds a good catalytic efficiency(near 100%)achieved by within 5 *** highest catalytic reduction of NP is due to the synergistic effect of Au nanoparticles decorated on *** fast electron transfer reduction mechanism was elucidated and *** reusability and stability of the developed nanocomposites were also observed in consecutive reduction *** filtering and catalyzing device was used for the direct conversion of NP polluted *** method can open a new avenue for the metal nanoparticles based carbon materials heterogeneous catalyst and its reduction of toxic contaminants.

Dear Editor,Optic perineuritis is a rare inflammatory disorder involving the optic nerve sheath and its adjacent *** condition shows dramatic responses to steroid treatment, although relapse is common. Additional characteristics of optic perineuritis include the sparing of central vision on a visual field test, relatively good initial visual acuity, and optic disc edemaI^l. Most cases are idiopathic, although some rare cases have been associated with specific infections, such as syphilis and viral infections, and autoimmune disorders including We- gener＇s granulomatosis, sarcoidosis, and giant cell arteritis.

Inactivation of Salmonella Newport on blueberries by treatment with chlorine dioxide gas and its effect on blueberry qualities

The purpose of this study was to use chlorine dioxide(ClO_(2))gas to inactivate Salmonella Newport on blueberries and observe quality changes of blueberries as affected by the *** inoculated with *** were treated with ClO_(2) gas for 10 h ClO_(2) gas was generated from either 1 or 2 mL of ClO_(2) solution dropped in a sealed container and the container was hold at 12℃ or 25℃.Within 30 min,Salmonella populations on blueberries treated with ClO_(2) gas,regardless of treatment temperature and amount of ClO_(2) solution,reduced below the detection limit(1.7 log CFU/sample)and the organism was eliminated within 30 min when 1 mL of ClO_(2) solution was used to generate gas at 25℃.After the ClO_(2) gas treatment,blueberries were analyzed with an electronic *** of untreated and ClO_(2)-gas treated blueberries are composed of 12 and 11 color codes,*** of the color codes,7 codes of both blueberries in control and treatment groups are the ***_(2) gas treatment did not cause significant changes in Hunter’s L,a,and b-value of ***(g)of blueberries treated with ClO_(2) gas for 30 min significantly increased;however final values were not significantly different from the values of untreated *** a result of this study,the ClO_(2) gas successfully reduced *** on blueberries without significant changes in their color and hardness.

Electrochemical performance of all-solid lithium ion batteries with a polyaniline film cathode

We have prepared a high-density polyaniline（PANI） paste（50 mg/m L）, with similar physical properties to those of paints or pigments. The synthesis of PANI is confirmed by Fourier transform infrared（FT-IR） spectroscopy. The morphologies of PANI, doped PANI, and doped PANI paste are confirmed by scanning electron microscopy（SEM）. Particles of doped PANI paste are approximately 40–50 nm in diameter, with a uniform and cubic shape. The electrochemical performances of doped PANI paste using both liquid and solid polymer electrolytes have been measured by galvanostatic charge and discharge process. The cell fabricated with doped PANI paste and the solid polymer electrolyte exhibits a discharge capacity of ～87 μAh/cm2（64.0 m Ah/g） at the second cycle and～67 μAh/cm2（50.1 m Ah/g） at the 100 th cycle.

Contact dermatitis （CD） is one of the most common skin diseases in industrialized countries. Chinese medicines （CMs） have been investigated worldwide as complementary and alternative medicines for corticosteroids, which are the first choice for treatment of inflammatory skin diseases owing to their favorable efficacy. This article describes the CMs that have been reported to have anti-dermatitis effects against CD in the last 20 years.
