By using a suitable set of the surface energy coefficient, nuclear radius, and universal function, the original proximity potential 1977 is modified. The overestimate of the data by 4% reported in the literature is significantly reduced. Our modified proximity potential reproduces the experimental data nicely compared to its older versions.

Transition zone or ecotone is a unique community sandwiched between two communities/ecosystems/*** ecotones in Himalaya remained unexplored for many ecological aspects lik. biodiversity,phyto-sociology,boundary detection and even impact of change in land use pattern(anthropogenic activity).The most accepted and widespread technique called as Moving Split Window(MSW) technique is used for detection of vegetation and environmental boundaries at four different sites in the lesser stratum of north-west *** the four sites were at different distances from the nearest human inhabited *** activities lik. grazing,herb collection,wood collection *** common at proximal *** activities have led to the change in land use *** this study,we have tried to work.out the impact of the change in land use pattern(human interference) on the vegetation and basic environmental parameters lik. soil pH,electrical conductivity and moisture on forestgrassland ecotone in north-west *** on mountain steepness was also collected and *** dissimilarity profile using the statistical tool Squared Euclidian Distance(SED) indicated that species turnover locations increase with the increase in distance of ecotones from human *** ecotones at distant locations from human villages are characterized with blunt as well as sharp peak. for vegetation data,however,conditions are reverse in case of the proximal *** study also reveals that as the distance between the ecotone and human settlements increases,the complex conditions lik. multiple vegetation boundaries prevails on the *** this regard,land use induced blurring of forest-grassland transition in north-west Himalaya is summed up in the study.

Conventional topological insulators support boundary states with dimension one lower than that of the bulk.system that hosts them,and these states are topologically protected due to quantized bulk.dipole ***,higherorder topological insulators have been proposed as a way of realizing topological states with dimensions two or more lower than that of the bulk.due to the quantization of bulk.quadrupole or octupole ***,all these proposals as well as experimental realizations have been restricted to real-space ***,we construct photonic higher-order topological insulators(PHOTIs)in synthetic *** show the emergence of a quadrupole PHOTI supporting topologically protected corner modes in an array of modulated photonic molecules with a synthetic frequency dimension,where each photonic molecule comprises two coupled *** changing the phase difference of the modulation between adjacent coupled photonic molecules,we predict a dynamical topological phase transition in the ***,we show that the concept of synthetic dimensions can be exploited to realize even higher-order multipole moments such as a fourth-order hexadecapole(16-pole)insulator supporting 0D corner modes in a 4D hypercubic synthetic lattice that cannot be realized in real-space lattices.

Back.round:In the northern hemisphere,the north face of the mountains has a high diversity of species which is attributed to the moist and shady conditions at the north *** environmental variables may also influence the species diversity on the northern faces of the mountain and therefore needs to be studied in *** northern slopes represent three different sub-slopes—north,north east,and north *** the current investigation of Pir-Panjal and Dauladhar ranges in Bhadarwah valley,fine-scale studies on the relationship between vegetation and four variables(soil pH,moisture content,electrical conductivity,and steepness)were *** study determined the role of these variables on the vegetation of three different *** sampling was done at the confluence of two communities(forest and grassland)at three sites on the northern sub-slopes of the lesser stratum in western ***:The result revealed that rich herbaceous diversity prevails on the lesser Himalayan stratum(Bhadarwah valley).As many as 65.8%species differ from site to site,whereas species commonality among the sites is *** role of environmental variables on the species composition at different sub-slopes of the north mountain face is deduced through canonical correspondence analysis(CCA).Conclusions:The availability of solar light increases air and soil temperature on the north east–facing *** the environmental variables(soil pH,moisture,electrical conductivity,and mountain steepness)are insignificant at pure north face for the species ***,it can be concluded that some other environmental variables may influence the species composition which are needed to be further investigated.

Phytocystatins constitute a multigene family that regulates the activity of endogenous and/or exogenous cysteine proteinases. Cereal crops lik. wheat are continuously threatened by a multitude of pathogens, therefore cystatins offer to play a pivotal role in deciding the plant response. In order to study the need of having diverse specificities and activities of various cystatins, we conducted comparative analysis of six wheat cystatins （WCs） with twelve rice, seven barley, one sorghum and ten corn cystatin sequences employing different bioinformatics tools. The obtained results identified highly conserved signature sequences in all the cystatins considered. Several other motifs were also identified, based on which the sequences could be categorized into groups in congruence with the phylogenetic clustering. Homology modeling of WCs revealed 3D structural topology so well shared by other cystatins. Protein-protein interaction of WCs with papain supported the notion that functional diversity is a con- sequence of existing differences in amino acid residues in highly conserved as well as relatively less conserved motifs. Thus there is a significant conservation at the sequential and structural levels; however, concomitant variations maintain the functional diversity in this protein family, which constantly modulates itself to reciprocate the diversity while counteracting the cysteine proteinases.

Nainital City of k.maun Lesser Himalaya is prone to mass wasting processes during monsoon season,which mischievously triggers the hill slope instability in this region. Slate, dolomitic limestone, silty sandstone and rhythmite of the k.ol Formation are the main rock.types. The present study focuses on the investigation of slope stability in the region in terms of potential seismicity and landslide. Geological and geotechnical mapping indicates that the major portion of the area is characterized by slope wash materials and buildings. The combination of 3-4 joint sets with one random joint is the main structure at *** major geological structures of this area are Nainital lak. fault passing from the center of the lak., Main Boundary Thrust at SW, and k.uriya Fault passing from the SE direction of Nainital City. This work.finds that different types of discontinuities(e.g. joints and faults), overburden due to unplanned civil structures,and neotectonic activity in the vicinity of this ara affect the stability of the city. The slate forms the base of the city, dipping slightly towards the lak. side along the NW direction, thus accelerating the instability of this area. Rock.mass rating(RMR), slope mass rating, factor of safety(FOS) and graphical analysis of the discontinuity for slope k.nematics indicate that the study area is a landslide-prone zone. This study can facilitate reducing the risk.of human life, and contribute to the ongoing construction work. in the area.

Protective effect of Sida cordata leaf extract against CCl_4 induced acute liver toxicity in rats

Objective:To investigate the hepatoprotective potential of Sida cordata（Malvaceae）（***） in experimental rats to validate its traditional ***:Wister albino rats were divided into 6 groups:Croup 1 served as control;CroupⅡserved as hepatotoxic（CCl4 treated） group; CroupⅢ,Ⅳand V served as（100,200 and 400 mg/k. b.w.） *** leaf extract（SCLE） treated groups;CroupⅥserved as positive control（Silymarin） treated *** mark.r enzymes serum glutamate oxyloacetic transaminase,serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase,pancreatic enzymatic antioxidants superoxide dismutase（SOD）,lipid peroxidation,catalase（CAT）,reduced glutathione（CSH） were measured and compared along with histopathological ***: Obtained results show that the treatment with SCI.E significantly（P<0.05-<0.001） and dosedependently reduced CCl4 induced elevated serum level of hepatic ***, SCLE significantly（up to P<0.001） reduced the lipid peroxidation in the liver tissue and restored activities of defence antioxidant enzymes CSH,SOD and CAT towards normal levels,which was confirmed by the histopathological ***:The results of this study strongly indicate the protective effect of SCLE against CCl4 induced acute liver toxicity in rats and thereby scientifically support its traditional use.
