Articular cartilage disorders and injuries often result in life-long chronic pain and compromised quality of ***,the regeneration of articular cartilage is a continuing challenge for biomedical *** of the most promising therapeutic approaches is cellbased tissue engineering,which provides a healthy population of cells to the injured site but requires differentiated chondrocytes from an uninjured *** use of healthy chondrocytes has been found to have limitations.A promising alternative cell population is mesenchymal stem cells(MSCs),known to possess excellent proliferation potential and proven capability for differentiation into ***“immunosuppressive”property of human MSCs makes them an important candidate for allogeneic cell *** use of allogeneic MSCs to repair large defects may prove to be an alternative to current autologous and allogeneic tissue-grafting *** allogeneic cell-based approach would enable MSCs to be isolated from any donor,expanded and cryopreserved in allogeneic MSC banks,providing a readily available source of progenitors for cell replacement *** possibilities have spawned the current exponential growth in stem cell research in pharmaceutical and biotechnology *** objective in this review is to summarize the knowledge about MSCs from umbilical cord stroma and focus mainly on their applications for joint pathologies.

Wireless capsule endoscopy: Perspectives beyond gastrointestinal bleeding

Wireless capsule endoscopy(CE) is a technology developed for the endoscopic exploration of the small bowel. The first capsule model was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 2001, and its first and essential indication was occult gastrointestinal(GI) bleeding. Over subsequent years, this technology has been refined to provide superior resolution, increased battery life, and capabilities to view different parts of the GI tract. Indeed, cases for which CE proved useful have increased significantly over the last few years, with new indications for the small bowel and technical improvements that have expanded its use to other parts of the GI tract, including the esophagus and colon. The main challenges in the development of CE are new devices with the ability to provide therapy, air inflation for a better vision of the small bowel, biopsy sampling systems attached to the capsule and the possibility to guide and move the capsule with an external motion control. In this article we review the current and new indications of CE, and the evolving technological changes shaping this technology, which has a promising potential in the coming future of gastroenterology.

The objective of this work is to provide decision-making processes with an updated/real picture of the mobile resources in industrial environments through a constant feedback of *** combination of identification technologies and wireless sensor networks(WSN) is proposed as a key development to guarantee an accurate and timely supply of online information regarding the localization and tracking of the mobile wireless *** approach uses a cooperative and distributed localization system,called ZigID,which is a WSN based on a Zigbee network with radio frequency identification(RFID) active tags as end *** WSN can recover not only the ID information stored at the tags attached to mobile resources,but also any other useful data captured by specific sensors for acceleration,temperature,humidity and fuel *** paper also shows the development of ZigID,including devices and information flows,as well as its implementation in ground handling operations at the Ciudad Real Central Airport,Spain.

Olfactory ensheathing glia promote axonal regeneration in the mammalian central nervous system,including retinal ganglion cell axonal growth through the injured optic ***,it is unknown whether olfactory ensheathing glia also have neuroprotective *** ensheathing glia express brain-derived neurotrophic factor,one of the best neuroprotectants for axotomized retinal ganglion ***,we aimed to investigate the neuroprotective capacity of olfactory ensheating glia after optic nerve *** ensheathing glia cells from an established rat immortalized clonal cell line,TEG3,were intravitreally injected in intact and axotomized retinas in syngeneic and allogeneic mode with or without microglial inhibition or immunosuppressive *** and gene expression analyses were *** bulb-derived primary olfactory ensheathing glia and TEG3 express major histocompatibility complex classⅡ*** and syngenically transplanted TEG3 cells survived in the vitreous for up to 21 days,forming an *** axotomized retinas,only the allogeneic TEG3 transplant rescued retinal ganglion cells at 7 days but not at 21 *** these retinas,microglial anatomical activation was higher than after optic nerve crush *** intact retinas,both transplants activated microglial cells and caused retinal ganglion cell death at 21 days,a loss that was higher after allotransplantation,triggered by pyroptosis and partially rescued by microglial inhibition or ***,neuroprotection of axotomized retinal ganglion cells did not improve with these *** different neuroprotective properties,different toxic effects,and different responses to microglial inhibitory treatments of olfactory ensheathing glia in the retina depending on the type of transplant highlight the importance of thorough preclinical studies to explore these variables.

Since its inception,the COVID-19 pandemic has affected health care as a *** patients in general and those suffering from lung cancer in particular are a vulnerable group because of their many intrinsic characteristics and care *** SARS-CoV-2(COVID-19)infection affects these patients regarding their risk of infection and outcome in this patient cohort is still to be *** this review,we tried to summarize our main concerns regarding COVID-19 in the context of cancer patients from a clinical and multidisciplinary *** types of lung cancer treatments(chemotherapy,radiation therapy and immunotherapy)may also influence the risk of infection and condition the patient´s risk of having a worse *** cancer patients require frequent radiologic study follow-ups,which may be affected by COVID-19 ***-19 related incidental radiologic findings can appear in routinely scheduled radiology tests,which may be difficult to *** cancer treatment induced pneumonitis may have similar radiologic features similar to those in acute SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia and lead to a wrong *** different health care needs,the requirement for continuous health care access and follow-ups,and the clinical traials in which this patient population might be enrrolled are all being affected by the current COVID-19 health *** COVID-19 pandemic has put health care providers and institutions in difficult situations and obliged them to face challenging ethical *** issues,in turn,have also affected the psychological well-being of health care workers.

Bacterial infection of implanted scaffolds may have fatal consequences and,in combination with the emergence of multidrug bacterial resistance,the development of advanced antibacterial biomaterials and constructs is of great *** decades ago,metals and their ions had been used to minimize bacterial infection risk and,more recently,metal-based nanomaterials,with improved antimicrobial properties,have been advocated as a novel and tunable alternative.A comprehensive review is provided on how metal ions and ion nanoparticles have the potential to decrease or eliminate unwanted *** mechanisms such as oxidative stress induction,ion release and disruption of biomolecules are currently well ***,the exact antimicrobial mechanisms of the discussed metal compounds remain poorly *** combination of different metal ions and surface decorations of nanoparticles will lead to synergistic effects and improved microbial killing,and allow to mitigate potential side effects to the *** with a general overview of antibacterial mechanisms,we subsequently focus on specific metal ions such as silver,zinc,copper,iron and gold,and outline their distinct modes of ***,we discuss the use of these metal ions and nanoparticles in tissue engineering to prevent implant failure.

Binary Fruit Fly Swarm Algorithms for the Set Covering Problem

Currently,the industry is experiencing an exponential increase in dealing with binary-based combinatorial *** this sense,metaheuristics have been a common trend in the field in order to design approaches to solve them ***,a well-known strategy consists in the use of algorithms based on discrete swarms transformed to perform in binary *** the No Free Lunch theorem,we are interested in testing the performance of the Fruit Fly Algorithm,this is a bio-inspired metaheuristic for deducing global optimization in continuous spaces,based on the foraging behavior of the fruit fly,which usually has much better sensory perception of smell and vision than any other *** the other hand,the Set Coverage Problem is a well-known NP-hard problem with many practical applications,including production line balancing,utility installation,and crew scheduling in railroad and mass transit *** this paper,we propose different binarization methods for the Fruit Fly Algorithm,using Sshaped and V-shaped transfer functions and various discretization methods to make the algorithm work in a binary search *** are motivated with this approach,because in this way we can deliver to future researchers interested in this area,a way to be able to work with continuous metaheuristics in binary *** new approach was tested on benchmark instances of the Set Coverage Problem and the computational results show that the proposed algorithm is robust enough to produce good results with low computational cost.

Nanoscale photothermal effects enable important applications in cancer therapy,imaging and *** effects also induce substantial changes in the optical response experienced by the probing light,thus suggesting their application in all-optical ***,we demonstrate the ability of graphene,thin metal films,and graphene/metal hybrid systems to undergo photothermal optical modulation with depths as large as>70%over a wide spectral range extending from the visible to the terahertz frequency *** envision the use of ultrafast pump laser pulses to raise the electron temperature of graphene during a picosecond timescale in which its mid-infrared plasmon resonances undergo dramatic shifts and broadenings,while visible and near-infrared plasmons in the neighboring metal films are severely attenuated by the presence of hot graphene *** study opens a promising avenue toward the active photothermal manipulation of the optical response in atomically thin materials with potential applications in ultrafast light modulation.

The starting point of this research is the urban model promoted by the United Nations through the Sustainable development Goals(SDGs).The importance of public spaces is especially highlighted in Goal 11.7:“provide universal access to safe,inclusive,and accessible,green,and public spaces.”The quality of public spaces can be properly assessed by reconsidering the quality indicators and investigating their development potential,which is the main focus of our *** study is based on a theoretical and methodological reflection on the quality of public space,considering the contributions of some contemporary urban traditions and a few recent *** this perspective,a variety of public space projects developed in the European sphere have been selected and *** quality parameters identified in this initial analysis were then applied to the analysis of nine representative case studies in three Spanish cities(Madrid,Barcelona,and Zaragoza).The main goal is to propose a methodology that helps to evaluate the quality of those public spaces and determine its relationship with the safety,accessibility,and inclusiveness conditions they offer.
