BACKGROUND Radicular cyst is a lesion of odontogenic origin that arises from epithelial remains due to periapical periodontitis caused by inflammatory reactions generated at the apex of affected teeth with infected or necrotic *** therapeutic mana gement of radicular cysts is *** is only one case report of enucleation of a radicular cyst managed with microsurgery and apicoectomy,but without the use of the guided tissue regeneration(GTR)technique in the same surgical *** present clinical case describes the management of a radicular cyst with microsurgical approach,performance of an apicoectomy of the tooth associated with the entity,application of GTR technique,use of a resorbable membrane of type I bovine collagen,and bovine *** SUMMARY A 68-year-old patient presented with a radicular cyst from an upper lateral *** microsurgical management used was aimed at enucleating the chemical membrane,performing apicoectomy of the tooth along with careful and precise retrograde filling,and implementing GTR technique using a resorbable collagen membrane and bovine *** diagnosis of radicular cyst was confirmed using histopathological *** patient underwent follow-up evaluations at 10 and 30 d *** 4 months postoperative evaluation,she remained asymptomatic,and radiographs showed significant periapical healing with adequate bone *** These results suggest that microsurgical management using the GTR technique with collagen membrane and xenograft,contributes to bone regeneration.

Astrocytes, reactive astrogliosis, and glial scar formation in traumatic brain injury

Traumatic brain injury is a global health crisis,causing significant death and disability *** that follows traumatic brain injury has serious consequences for neuronal survival and cognitive impairments,with astrocytes involved in this *** traumatic brain injury,astrocytes rapidly become reactive,and astrogliosis propagates from the injury core to distant brain *** astroglial proteins are downregulated near the traumatic brain injury core,while pro-inflammatory astroglial genes are *** altered gene expression is considered a pathological remodeling of astrocytes that produces serious consequences for neuronal survival and cognitive *** addition,glial scar formed by reactive astrocytes is initially necessary to limit immune cell infiltration,but in the long term impedes axonal reconnection and functional *** therapeutic strategies for traumatic brain injury are focused on preventing acute ***,cannabinoids,progesterone,beta-blockers,and cerebrolysin demonstrate neuroprotective benefits but most of them have not been studied in the context of *** this review,we discuss the cell signaling pathways activated in reactive astrocytes following traumatic brain injury and we discuss some of the potential new strategies aimed to modulate astroglial responses in traumatic brain injury,especially using cell-targeted strategies with miRNAs or lncRNA,viral vectors,and repurposed drugs.

Modelling the probability of erroneous negative lymph node staging in patients with colon cancer

Background:Patients in who with insufficient number of analysed lymph nodes(LNs)are more likely to receive an incorrect LN *** ability to calculate the overall probability of undiagnosed LN involvement errors in these patients could be very useful for approximating the real patient prognosis and for giving possible indications for adjuvant *** objective of this work was to establish the predictive capacity and prognostic discriminative ability of the final error probability(FEP)among patients with colon cancer and with a potentially incorrectly-staged LN-negative ***:This was a retrospective multicentric population study carried out between January 2004 and December *** used a mathematical model based on Bayes’theorem to calculate the probability of LN involvement given a FEP test *** sum graphs were used to calculate risk groups and the survival rates were calculated,by month,using the Kaplan-Meier ***:A total of 548 patients were analysed and classified into three risk groups according to their FEP score:low-risk(FEP15%).Patients with LN involvement had the lowest overall survival rate when compared to the three risk *** difference was statistically significant for the low-and intermediate-risk groups(P=0.002 and P=0.004,respectively),but high-risk group presented similar survival curves to pN+group(P=0.505).In terms of disease-free survival,the high-risk group presented similar curves to the intermediate-risk group until approximately 60 months’follow-up(P=0.906).After 80 months’follow-up,the curve of high-risk group coincided with that of the pN+group(P=0.172).Finally,we summarized the FEP according to the number of analysed LNs and accompanied by a contour plot which represents its calculation ***:The application of Bayes’theorem in the calculation of FEP is useful to delimit risk subgroups from among patients without LN i

Insular marine biotas are often richer in faunal diversity than those from the open sea in the same geo- graphical region. The existence of particular island effects were tested under polar conditions by compar- ing infaunal benthic assemblages on Peter I Island with those of similar latitudes in the open ocean at the Bellingshausen Sea and also from the coast of the Antarctic Peninsula. Sampling was carried out aboard the R/V Hesperides during the expedition named BENTART-2003 from 24 January to 3 March 2003. Benthic samples were collected at 18 stations ranging from 90 to 2 044 m depth, using an USNEL-type box corer （BC） dredge. Representatives of 32 higher taxa of invertebrates were found. Univariate and multivariate analyses revealed various patterns in the data. First, significant differences in polychaete abundance were detected between the stations located in the open sea and the remaining sites （island plus mainland sites）. Bivalve abundances were also distinct between island and mainland sampling sites. Sediment columns taken from the island seafloor exhibited the highest rate of bioturbation by the infauna. These findings confirm the model that islands develop distinct assemblages characterized by the enhancement of the benthic commu- nities even in cold waters. Several abiotic factors were measured simultaneously at the seafloor and along the water column to investigate faunal distribution patterns. Significant correlations were found between the benthic assemblages and a combination of two environmental variables：＂island effect＂（measured as a categorical variable） and the redox state of sediments. Richer and more complex benthic assemblages were found in Peter I Island＇s sea bottom, whereas the more depauperate bottoms remained in the open sea.

The actual challenge in health is to manage patients with chronic diseases from a holistic approach where technology around the patient and at the city enhances their wellness. This paper deepens in the relations between health, devices, and models of technological cities and how these can be modeled to provide a more cost efficient solution while less invasive and more natural to the end users. In light of this, usable and accessible software and a wide range of devices, ranging from PC, smartphone, tablet and SmartTV have been tested. This manuscript will give good comprehension on how technology and disease management care models interact with the patient.

Smoking is not associated with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease

AIM： To analyze the relationship between smoking and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease （NAFLD）. METHODS： This is a cross-sectional study of a healthy population, carried out in a check-up unit of a university hospital in Mexico City. We enrolled 933 subjects, 368 current smokers （cases） and 565 persons who had never smoked （controls）. Demographic, metabolic and biochemical variables were measured in the two groups. NAFLD was determined by ultrasound and metabolic syndrome according to ATPⅢ. RESULTS： A total of 548 men （205 cases and 343 controls） and 337 women （114 cases and 223 controls） were included in the analysis. Statistical differences between cases and controls were observed only in high blood pressure prevalence （6.6% vs 11.3%, P〈0.05; cases and controls respectively）, high-density lipoproteins （1.00±0.26 vs 1.06±0.28 mmol/L, P 〈 0.005）, triglycerides （2.18±1.49 vs 1.84±1.1 mmol/L, P〈0.001）, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate （11.3±9.3 vs 13.5±11.9 mm/h, P〈0.001）. No differences were observed in the prevalence of NAFLD （22.27% vs 29.68%, P = NS） and metabolic syndrome （41.69% vs 36.74%, P = NS）. Univariate analysis showed that smoking was not a risk factor for NAFLD （OR = 0.89, 95% CI 0.65-1.21）. CONCLUSION： No differences in NAFLD prevalence were observed between current smokers and nonsmokers, and furthermore, no differences were observed in heavy smokers （more than 20 packs/year）, indicating that there js no relationship between smoking and NAFLD.

Analysis of Hydrological Simulation Models Using the Parameter Combinatorial Diagram

The aim of this paper is to present graphically the behaviour of a simulation model to the varying parameters and to establish the suitability of this representation as a valid tool for the analysis of the same parameters. In this paper, we define parameter combinatorial diagram as the joint graphical representation of all box plots related to the adjustment between real and simulated data, by setting and/or changing the parameters of the simulation model. To do this, we start with a box plot representing the values of an objective adjustment function, achieving these results when varying all the parameters of the simulation model, Then we draw the box plot when setting all the parameters of the model, for example, using the median or average. Later, we get all the box plots when carrying out simulations combining fixed or variable values of the model parameters. Finally, all box plots obtained are represented neatly in a single graph. It is intended that the new parameter combinatorial diagram is used to examine and analyze simulation models useful in practice. This paper presents combinatorial diagrams of different examples of application as in the case of hydrologic models of one, two, three, and five parameters.

Densities and viscosities of binary mixtures of n-decane + 1-pentanol,+1-hexanol,+1-heptanol at temperatures from 293.15 to 363.15 K and atmospheric pressure

Densities(ρ) and dynamic viscosities(η) for three binary mixtures of n-decane with 1-pentanol,1-hexanol and1-heptanol are presented at temperatures from 293.15 to 363.15 K and atmospheric pressure over the entire composition *** density and viscosity are measured using a vibrating tube densimeter and a cylindrical Couette type rotating viscometer,*** molar volumes(V^E),viscosity deviations(△η) and excess Gibbs energy of activation of viscous flow(△G^(*E)) are calculated from the experimental *** and structural interactions are indicated by the sign and magnitude of these *** molar volumes and infinity dilution molar partial volumes are also calculated for each binary *** results are correlated using Redlich-Kister type equations.
