Background: pancreaticoduodenectomy is the standard treatment for resectable periampullary cancer. Surgical site infections(SSI) are common complications with increased morbidity. The study aimed to describe the prevalence, risk factors, microbiology, and outcomes of SSI among patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study in a referral cancer center between January 2015 and June 2021. We analyzed baseline patient characteristics and SSI occurrence. Culture results and susceptibility patterns were described. Multivariate logistic regression was used to determine risk factors, proportional hazards model to evaluate mortality, and Kaplan-Meier analysis to assess long-term survival. Results: A total of 219 patients were enrolled in the study;101(46%) developed SSI. Independent factors for SSI were diabetes mellitus, preoperative albumin level, biliary drainage, biliary prostheses, and clinically relevant postoperative pancreatic fistula. The main pathogens were Enterobacteria and Enterococci. Multidrug-resistance rate in SSI was high but not associated with increased mortality. Infected patients had higher odds of sepsis, longer hospital stay and intensive care unit stay, and readmission rate. Neither 30-day mortality nor long-term survival was significantly different between infected and non-infected patients. Conclusions: SSI prevalence among patients undergoing pancreaticoduodenectomy was high and largely caused by resistant microorganisms. Most risk factors were related to preoperative instrumentation of the biliary tree. SSI was associated with greater risk of unfavorable outcomes;however, survival was unaffected.

为研究极端干旱对牧草生长的影响，选择多年生黑麦草（lolium perenne）(lp)和雀麦（Bromus Valdivianus）(Bv)给予80%?85%植物有效水（plant available water， pAW）和20%?25% pAW 2种水分处理，分析2牧草生长及体内水分状况对干旱胁迫的响应。研究表明：1)80%?85% pAW充足水分下，2牧草生物量积累、水势（Water potential， Wp）、相对含水量（Relative water content， RWC）和净光合速率（Net photosynthetic rate， pn）无明显种间差异。Bv叶片宽而重、蒸腾速率（Transpiration rate， Tr）、CO2总导度(Total conductance to CO2， CndCO2)和气孔导度(Conductance to H2O， Gs)显著高于lp。而lp分蘗多、叶多汁；瞬时水分利用效率是Bv的1.63倍。2)20%?25% pAW对2牧草生长影响不完全一致，叶饱和重、干重和叶面积有相反变化趋势，但与充足水分相比差异不显著；pn，Tr，CndCO2，Gs和RWC则极显著降低，Wp极显著降低了1.60 Mpa，致使枯叶占比和叶温差的显著升高。总之，雀麦和多年生黑麦草生长相近，水分利用模式不同；遭受极端干旱，不同种的2牧草耐旱机制具有一定的共性，通过增强叶片持水力、降低水分循环、减少蒸腾失水以提高牧草抗旱性。

The recent outbreak of COVID-19 has caused millions of deaths worldwide and a huge societal and economic impact in virtually all countries. A large variety of mathematical models to describe the dynamics of COVID-19 transmission have been reported. Among them, Bayesian probabilistic models of COVID-19 transmission dynamics have been very efficient in the interpretation of early data from the beginning of the pandemic, helping to estimate the impact of non-pharmacological measures in each country, and forecasting the evolution of the pandemic in different potential scenarios. These models use probability distribution curves to describe key dynamic aspects of the transmission, like the probability for every infected person of infecting other individuals, dying or recovering, with parameters obtained from experimental epidemiological data. However, the impact of vaccine-induced immunity, which has been key for controlling the public health emergency caused by the pandemic, has been more challenging to describe in these models, due to the complexity of experimental data. Here we report different probability distribution curves to model the acquisition and decay of immunity after vaccination. We discuss the mathematical background and how these models can be integrated in existing Bayesian probabilistic models to provide a good estimation of the dynamics of COVID-19 transmission during the entire pandemic period.

With concerns in energy crisis and global warming, researchers are actively investigating alternative energy renewable solutions. Among the various methods, piezoelectric transduction stands out due to its impressive electromechanical coupling factor and coefficient. As a result, piezoelectric energy harvesting has garnered significant attention from the scientific community. In this study, we explored methods to enhance the piezoelectric properties of polyvinylidene fluoride (pVDF) through two distinct approaches. The first approach involved applying external high voltages at various stages during the mixture reaction. The goal was to determine whether this voltage application could alter or enhance pVDF’s piezoelectric conformation by improving the alignment of polarized dipoles. In the second part of our study, we investigated the effects of incorporating various nanostructures (including Iron Oxide, Magnesium Oxide, and Zinc Oxide) into pVDF. To analyze changes in pVDF’s crystalline structure, we utilized Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray Diffraction (XRD) techniques. Additionally, we measured the electric polarization of samples using a precision lC Meter and examined the morphology of nanofibers through Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).
