Dam construction for hydropower development is a very important subject all around the world, especially in developing countries due to energy crises. Filling of reservoir lakes may trigger or reactivate landslides in reservoir area. Active landslides in populated districts in the Xiangjiaba Reservoir area have become a striking problem for residents, local government and construction engineers. The key objective of this study is to analyze the role of reservoir filling and fluctuation in the activation/reactivation of the landslide as well as the mechanism of landslide from microstructures of pre-sheared slip surface. A large active landslide with a total volume of 1.25 Mm^3 at the left margin of Jinsha River in Pingshan County of Sichuan Province, Southwest China, was selected as a case study. Field investigation, field monitoring and laboratory tests were carried out to find out the failure mechanism and the stability of the active landslide. The shear strength test and stability analysis confirm that the water level fluctuations have an adverse effect on slope stability. It is obvious from microstructure analysis that the clay minerals contribute to down-slope movement at micro-scale as well as presence of expansive minerals （e.g., montmorillonite） decreases the strength of soil due to water level rise.

COVID-19 has become a pandemic,with cases all over the world,with widespread disruption in some countries,such as Italy,US,India,South Korea,and *** and reliable detection of COVID-19 is mandatory to control the spread of ***,prediction of COVID-19 spread in near future is also crucial to better plan for the disease *** this purpose,we proposed a robust framework for the analysis,prediction,and detection of *** make reliable estimates on key pandemic parameters and make predictions on the point of inflection and possible washout time for various countries around the *** estimates,analysis and predictions are based on the data gathered fromJohns Hopkins Center during the time span of April 21 to June 27,*** use the normal distribution for simple and quick predictions of the coronavirus pandemic model and estimate the parameters of Gaussian curves using the least square parameter curve fitting for several countries in different *** predictions rely on the possible outcomes of Gaussian time evolution with the central limit theorem of statistics the predictions to be well *** parameters of Gaussian distribution,i.e.,maximumtime and width,are determined through a statisticalχ^(2)-fit for the purpose of doubling times after April 21,*** COVID-19 detection,we proposed a novel method based on the Histogram of Oriented Gradients(HOG)and CNN in multi-class classification scenario i.e.,Normal,COVID-19,viral pneumonia *** results show the effectiveness of our framework for reliable prediction and detection of COVID-19.

The modernization theory forecasts a sharp declining effect of institutionalized religion on human behavior owing to the extensive economic ***,this prediction is rejected and proved that religious values and beliefs have a pervasive influence on individual *** on this salient evidence,we examine the influence of religious social norms on bank earnings management behavior with regard to ongoing economic *** use 20,715 bank-year observations from 1318 listed banks of eight geographical ***,further,employ an updated dataset of 2007-2021 to resemble the economic prosperity time *** study discards the prediction of the modernization theory and reveals that banks located in countries with high religiosity are less likely to manage their reported *** comparing conventional banks with Islamic ones,conventional banks are found to be less prone to the earnings management practice than that of their Islamic *** also find religiosity to have a greater magnitude of effect on the accounting manipulation in the crisis period than in the post-crisis *** cross-regional differences in religious values bring differential effects on this unethical *** results are robust with the alternative measures of earnings management and alternative model specifications.

This paper aims to improve the performance of the conventional perturb and observe(P&O)maximum power point tracking(MPPT)*** the oscillation around the maximum power point(MPP)is the main disadvantage of this technique,we introduce a modified P&O algorithm to conquer this *** new algorithm recognizes approaching the peak of the photovoltaic(PV)array power curve and prevents the oscillation around the *** key to achieve this goal is testing the change of output power in each cycle and comparing it with the change in array terminal power of the previous *** a decrease in array terminal power is observed after an increase in the previous cycle or in the opposite direction,an increase in array terminal power is observed after a decrease in the previous cycle;it means we are at the peak of the power curve,so the duty cycle of the boost converter should remain the same as the previous ***,an optimized duty cycle is introduced,which is adjusted based on the operating point of PV ***,a DC-DC boost converter powered by a PV array simulator is used to test the proposed *** the irradiance changes,the proposed algorithm produces an averageηMPPT of nearly 3.1%greater than that of the conventional P&O algorithm and the incremental conductance(In C)*** addition,under strong partial shading conditions and drift avoidance tests,the proposed algorithm produces an averageηMPPT of nearly 9%and 8%greater than that of the conventional algorithms,respectively.

Probability Prediction Model for Landslide Occurrences in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China

Landslides are increasing since the 1980s in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, China. This is due to the increase of the frequency and intensity of precipitation caused by complex geological structures, the presence of steep landforms, seasonal heavy rainfall, and the intensifcation of human activities. In this study, we propose a landslide prediction model based on the analysis of intraday rainfall(IR) and antecedent effective rainfall(AER). Primarily, the number of days and degressive index of the antecedent effective rainfall which affected landslide occurrences in the areas around Qin Mountains, Li Mountains and Loess Tableland was established. Secondly, the antecedent effective rainfall and intraday rainfall were calculated from weather data which were used to construct critical thresholds for the 10%, 50% and 90% probabilities for future landslide occurrences in Qin Mountain, Li Mountain and Loess Tableland. Finally, the regions corresponding to different warning levels were identified based on the relationship between precipitation and the threshold, that is; "A" region is safe, "B" region is on watch alert, "C" region is on warning alert and "D" region is on severe warning alert. Using this model, a warning program is proposed which can predict rainfall-induced landslides by means of real-time rain gauge data and real-time geo-hazard alert and disaster response programs. Sixteen rain gauges were installed in the Xi'an region by keeping in accordance with the regional geology and landslide risks. Based on the data from gauges, this model accurately achieves the objectives of conducting real-time monitoring as well as providing early warnings of landslides in the Xi'an region.
