Phytodiversity and medicinal plant distribution in pasturelands of North Western Himalaya in relation to environmental gradients

This study aimed at elucidating phytodiversity of pasturelands of North-western Kashmir Himalayan biotic province in relation to various environmental gradients, with added focus on assessing distribution of important threatened medicinal plant taxa across surveyed pasturelands. A total of 16 sites that spanned across a broad altitudinal gradient(2502-4120 m) were selected. Phytosociological data like density, cover, frequency and abundance of vascular flora were collected and processed using gradient analysis. Soil moisture, nitrogen, organic carbon, acidity and electrical conductivity, altitude, degree of slope and human disturbance were recorded from each site. Analysis of species composition showed a total of 293 species of vascular plants, belonging to 192 genera and 64 families recorded from surveyed sites. Rank abundance exhibited that majority of species are locally rare and patchily distributed, with over 60% of species recording frequencies between 0%-20% and none showing frequencies more than 80%. Species richness showed significant variations and ranged from 20(Parihasmaidan) to 114(Nagbarren) for macro and 3.53±2.11(Thajwas) to 8.76± 1.01(marsar) for micro-scale of measurement. The ShannonWiener(H') and Simpson's diversity(Ds) indices also varied greatly and were recorded highest(H'= 2.76 & Ds= 0.36) for marsar and lowest(0.87 & 0.62) for Parihasmaidan. The diversity attributes suggested that pasturelands with lower species richness and diversity on macro-scale were not always species poor and less diverse on micro-measurement scale. The life form groupings highlighted the hemicryptophytic character of vegetation and species with highest importance value index were Sibbaldia cuneata(5.71), Rumex nepalensis(2.89), Juniperus wallichiana(2.88), Cynodon dactylon(2.83), Poa annua(2.49) and Sambucus wightiana(2.41). Changes in soil organic carbon,nitrogen and sulphur along a slope gradient in apple orchard soils of Kashmir Himalaya

Accumulation and losses of soil organic carbon(SOC),total nitrogen(TN)and sulphur(S)influence food security and global ***,their spatial distribution and variability at regional scale,and their relation to topographical variables are of great *** this study,the variability of SOC,TN and S content was evaluated in apple orchard soils of Kashmir region,at three depths(D1:0-10,D2:10-20,and D3:20-30 cm)on slope gradient i.e.:flat,medium,and *** an increase in slope,a significant decrease of SOC and TN was observed,with concentration of SOC and TN recorded highest(14.3±2.06 g kg-1&0.97±0.35 g kg-1)in flat slope orchards and lowest(9.6±2.07 g kg-1&0.84±0.41 g kg-1)in high slope *** stock basis,the values recorded for flat,medium,and high slope orchards,for SOC and TN were 54.62±4.24 mg ha-1&0.38±0.06 mg ha-1,44.13±5.11 mg ha-1&0.32±0.09 mg ha-1,and 38.73±5.94 mg ha-1&0.28±0.10,*** differences for S concentration and stocks were modest,with flat(0.21±0.15 mg kg-1&0.09±0.0.003 mg ha-1)>high(0.16±0.07 mg kg-1&0.06±0.007 mg ha-1)>medium(0.12±0.04 mg kg-1&0.075±0.009 mg ha-1).Across slopes,SOC,TN and S decreased with increasing soil depth,suggesting clear downward ***,SOC and TN increased with the increase of altitude,precipitation and clay content while its relationship with soil acidity and soil bulk density was *** findings may provide scientific basis to structure agricultural development plans or prioritize regions for soil conservation efforts.

Vitamin D receptor expression in human bone tissue and dose-dependent activation in resorbing osteoclasts

The effects of vitamin D on osteoblast mineralization are well documented. Reports of the effects of vitamin D on osteoclasts, however, are conflicting, showing both inhibition and stimulation. Finding that resorbing osteoclasts in human bone express vitamin D receptor （VDR）, we examined their response to different concentrations of 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 [25（OH）D3] （100 or 500 nmol·L^-1） and 1,25-dihydroxy vitamin D3 [1,25（OH）2D3] （0.1 or 0.5 nmol·L^-1） metabolites in cell cultures. Specifically, CD14＋ monocytes were cultured in charcoal-stripped serum in the presence of receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand （RANKL） and macrophage colony-stimulating factor （m-CSF）. Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase （TRAP） histochemical staining assays and dentine resorption analysis were used to identify the size and number of osteoclast cells, number of nuclei per cell and resorption activity. The expression of VDR was detected in human bone tissue （ex vivo） by immunohistochemistry and in vitro cell cultures by western blotting. Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR （qRT-PCR） was used to determine the level of expression of vitamin D-related genes in response to vitamin D metabolites. VDR-related genes during osteoclastogenesis, shown by qRT-PCR, was stimulated in response to 500 nmol·L^-1 of 25（OH）D3 and 0.1-0.5 nmol·L^-1 of 1,25（OH）2D3, upregulating cytochrome P450 family 27 subfamily B member I （CYP27B1） and cytochrome P450 family 24 subfamily A member I （CYP24A1）. Osteoclast fusion transcripts transmembrane 7 subfamily member 4 （tm7sf4） and nuclear factor of activated T-cell cytoplasmic 1 （nfatcl） where downregulated in response to vitamin D metabolites. Osteoclast number and resorption activity were also increased. Both 25（OH）D3 and 1,25（OH）2D3 reduced osteoclast size and number when co-treated with RANKL and m-CSF. Tritrophic interactions between parasitoids and cereal aphids are mediated by nitrogen fertilizer

Host plant nutritional quality can directly and indirectly affect the third trophic levels. The aphid-parasitoid relationship provides an ideal system to investigate tritrophic interactions （as the parasitoids are completely dependent for their development upon their hosts） and assess the bottom up forces operating at different concentrations of nitrogen applications. The effects of varying nitrogen fertilizer on the performance of Aphidius colemani （V.） reared on Sitobion avenae （E） and Aphidius rhopalosiphi （D.） reared on Rhopalosiphum padi （L.） were measured. Parasitism and percent emergence ofparasitoids were positively affected by nitrogen fertilizer treatments while developmental duration （egg, larval, and pupal stages） was not affected by increasing nitrogen inputs. In males and females of both parasitoid species, adult longevity increased with the increasing nitrogen fertilizer. Hind tibia length and mummy weight of both parasitoid species increased with nitrogen fertilizer concentrations, as a result of larger aphids. This study showed that nitrogen application to the soil can have important consequences for aboveground multitrophic interactions.

Nanotechnology has greatly expanded the applications of nanoparticles(NPs)domain in the scientific *** this context,the zinc oxide nanoparticles(ZnO-NPs)and 24-epibrassinolide(EBL)has been revealed to positively regulate plant metabolism and *** the present study,we investigated the role of ZnO-NPs and EBL in the regulation of plant growth,photosynthetic efficiency,enzymes activities and fruit yield in *** treatment of ZnO-NPs at three levels(10,50 or 100 ppm)and EBL(10^(−8) m)were applied separately or in combination to the foliage of plant at 35-39 days after sowing(DAS);and the control plants were treated with double distilled water(DDW)only at the same time *** different tested concentrations of ZnO-NPs and/or EBL,the combined spray of 50 ppm of ZnO-NPs and 10^(−8) m of EBL proved to be best,and considerably increased the growth,photosynthetic efficiency,biochemical enzymes activities as well as fruit ***,the performance of the antioxidant enzymes viz catalase,peroxidase and superoxide dismutase were also increased after the combined application of ZnO-NPs and EBL in Lycopersicon ***,it is suggested that combined application of 50 ppm of ZnO-NPs and 10−8 m of EBL is the best combination can be applied to increase the performance and yield of ***.

Artificial intelligence(AI)and machine learning(mL)help in making predictions and businesses to make key decisions that are beneficial for *** the case of the online shopping business,it’s very important to find trends in the data and get knowledge of features that helps drive the success of the *** this research,a dataset of 12,330 records of customers has been analyzedwho visited an online shoppingwebsite over a period of one *** main objective of this research is to find features that are relevant in terms of correctly predicting the purchasing decisions made by visiting customers and build mL models which could make correct predictions on unseen data in the *** permutation feature importance approach has been used to get the importance of features according to the output variable(Revenue).Five mL models i.e.,decision tree(DT),random forest(RF),extra tree(ET)classifier,Neural networks(NN),and Logistic regression(LR)have been used to make predictions on the unseen data in the *** performance of each model has been discussed in detail using performance measurement techniques such as accuracy score,precision,recall,F1 score,and ROC-AUC *** model is the bestmodel among all five chosen based on accuracy score of 90%and F1 score of 79%followed by extra tree ***,our study indicates that RF model can be used by online retailing businesses for predicting consumer buying *** research also reveals the importance of page value as a key feature for capturing online purchasing *** may give a clue to future businesses who can focus on this specific feature and can find key factors behind page value success which in turn will help the online shopping business.

Influence of land use/land cover on the water chemistry of Wular Lake in Kashmir Himalaya (India)

Introduction:The impacts of land use/land cover(LULC)pattern on surface components of water are less well recognized,particularly in the Kashmir *** paper highlights the relationship between LULC and water chemistry for Wular Lake in Kashmir ***:We used Indian Remote Sensing satellite(IRS)P6 using LISS III sensor with a spatial resolution of 23.5 m for various LULC *** ImAGINE 9.0 and ArcGIS 9.3 were used to generate the LULC *** parameters like pH and temperature were measured in the field,while parameters like dissolved oxygen,free carbon dioxide,chloride,alkalinity nitrogen and phosphorus values were determined by APHA(Standard methods for Examination of Water and Wastewater,1998).Results:The present study provides us the information about the proportion of different land cover categories and their correlation with some limnological parameters of Wular *** the various physicochemical parameters,low dissolved oxygen(DO)was observed in the LULC class which has the highest percentage of agricultural land(47.04%;r=0.688 Pment area with greater percentage of agricultural fields drains maximum fertilizers in the lake,resulting in growth of microorganisms that deplete the dissolved oxygen content in the water ***:Pearson matrix predicts that agricultural land,built up,horticultural land and wasteland seem to be the foremost factors responsible for the deterioration of the water quality of the *** planning of land use is needed to bring significant reductions in nutrient exports from agriculture through various tributaries,in order to restore and maintain water quality of the *** this trend of agriculturization manifestation continues unabated,it will be difficult to restore the lake water quality and to subsequently correct ecological manifestation of eutrophication through which the lake is undergoing at present.

Ozonation of ibuprofen in presence of SrWO4/ZnO photo-catalyst

The study was performed for removing ibuprofen from water using ozonation with visible light SrWO4/ZnO *** the removal of Ibuprofen,the overall reaction was carried out in a glass reactor in the presence of UV light and constant supply of *** maximum removal efficiency of Ibuprofen was 93%at 0.1 mg/L initial Ibuprofen concentration,and 0.35 g/L catalyst concentration keeping the contact time 30 *** a certain value,an increase in a concentration of doping agent,catalyst as well as initial Ibuprofen concentration results in a decrease of efficiency of the *** prepared photo catalysts were characterized by X-ray diffraction,FTIR spectra and SEm *** peaks and FTIR spectra has clearly shown that the doping of SrWO4 with ZnO showed better result as compared to *** analysis showed that they spherical nano-composite crystals were dominant in *** character was found to reduce after ozonation of *** by products were formed and were identified through GC-mS *** results,it was found that combination of SrWO4/ZnO was able to remove 93%of ibuprofen and 0.4%dopping of ZnO on SrWO4 was found to be *** pattern of by products were identitified in GC-mS with various mass ratios as 177,92,57,*** 55%removal of BOD was observed in this *** study was found to be useful for removal of pharmaceuticals and other similar pollutants from water effectively.
