Metabolic flexibility has emerged as a critical determinant of CD8+T-cell antitumor activity,yet the mechanisms driving the metabolic flexibility of T cells have not been *** this study,we investigated the influence of the nuclear cap-binding complex(CBC)adaptor protein ARS2 on mature T *** doing so,we discovered a novel signaling axis that endows activated CD8+T cells with flexibility of glucose ***2 upregulation driven by CD28 signaling reinforced splicing factor recruitment to pre-mRNAs and affected approximately one-third of T-cell activation-induced alternative splicing *** these effects,the CD28-ARS2 axis suppressed the expression of the M1 isoform of pyruvate kinase in favor of PKM2,a key determinant of CD8+T-cell glucose utilization,interferon gamma production,and antitumor effector ***,PKM alternative splicing occurred independently of CD28-driven PI3K pathway activation,revealing a novel means by which costimulation reprograms glucose metabolism in CD8+T cells.

Accesses Per Cycle(APC),Concurrent Average Memory Access Time(C-AMAT),and Layered Performance Matching(LPM)are three memory performance models that consider both data locality and memory assess *** APC model measures the throughput of a memory architecture and therefore reflects the quality of service(QoS)of a memory *** C-AMAT model provides a recursive expression for the memory access delay and therefore can be used for identifying the potential bottlenecks in a memory *** LPM method transforms a global memory system optimization into localized optimizations at each memory layer by matching the data access demands of the applications with the underlying memory system *** three models have been proposed separately through prior *** paper reexamines the three models under one coherent mathematical *** specifically,we present a new memorycentric view of data *** divide the memory cycles at each memory layer into four distinct categories and use them to recursively define the memory access latency and concurrency along the memory *** new perspective offers new insights with a clear formulation of the memory performance considering both locality and ***,the performance model can be easily understood and applied in engineering *** such,the memory-centric approach helps establish a unified mathematical foundation for model-driven performance analysis and optimization of contemporary and future memory systems.

In this paper, we present an innovative design of multiple description coding with spatial-temporal hybrid interpola- tion (MDC-STHI) for peer-to-peer (P2P) video streaming. MDC can be effective in P2P networks because the nature of overlay routing makes path diversity more feasible. However, most MDC schemes require a redesign of video coding systems and are not cost-effective for wide deployment. We base our work on multiple state video coding, a form of MDC that can utilize standard codecs. Two quarter-sized video bit streams are generated as redundancies and embedded in the original-sized streams. With MDC-STHI, the nodes in P2P network can adjust the streaming traffic to satisfy the constraints of their devices and network environment. By design, the redundancies are used to compensate for missing frames, and can also be streamed independently to fulfill certain needs of low rate, low resolution applications. For better error concealment, optimal weights for spatial and temporal interpolation are determined at the source, quantized, and included in redundancies.

Recent advances in understanding of pancreatitis and advances in technology have uncovered the veils of idiopathic pancreatitis to a point where a thorough history and judicious use of diagnostic techniques elucidate the cause in over 80% of cases. This review examines the multitude of etiologies of what were once labeled idiopathic pancreatitis and provides the current evidence on each. This review begins with a background review of the current epidemiology of idiopathic pancreatitis prior to discussion of various etiologies. Etiologies of medications,infections,toxins,autoimmune disorders,vascular causes,and anatomic and functional causes are explored in detail. We conclude with management of true idiopathic pancreatitis and a summary of the various etiologic agents. Throughout this review,areas of controversies are highlighted.

For decades sections of the academic community have been emphasizing that disasters are not ***, politicians, the media, various international organizations—and, more surprisingly, many established researchers working in disaster studies—are still widely using the expression 'natural disaster.' We systematically analyzed the usage of the expression 'natural disaster' by disaster studies researchers in 589 articles in six key academic journals representative of disaster studies research,and found that authors are using the expression in three principal ways:(1) delineating natural and human-induced hazards;(2) using the expression to leverage popularity;and(3) critiquing the expression 'natural disaster.' We also identified vulnerability themes that illustrate the context of 'natural disaster' usage. The implications of continuing to use this expression, while explicitly researching human vulnerability, are wide-ranging, and we explore what this means for us and our peers. This study particularly aims to stimulate debate within the disaster studies research community and related fields as to whether the term 'natural disaster' is really fit for purpose moving forward.

Background:The *** Force physical fitness assessment(PFA)is used to determine the overall fitness of their *** is currently unknown to what extent the PFA scores of Reserve Officers’Training Corps(ROTC)cadets are affected by mandatory physical *** purpose of this investigation was to longitudinally examine the PFAs of ROTC cadets over a four-year period,evaluate the results across class ranks,and evaluate the sensitivity of the classification of the ***:Air Force ROTC cadets performed the PFAs(abdominal circumference,1-min pushups,1-min sit-ups,and a 1.5-mile run)in both the spring(n=26)and fall(n=22)*** were compiled over a four-year period(Spring 2014–Fall 2017)and were performed in accordance with Air Force Instruction 36–2905.A oneway repeated measures ANOVA was performed separately for the fall and spring groups for each dependent variable across the 4 ***,a one-way between groups ANOVA was performed for each dependent variable during the time point(fall 2015;n=46)with the most recorded cadets for each class ***:Longitudinal assessments revealed a main effect of time(P=0.010)on abdominal circumference;cadets had a smaller abdominal circumference in their freshman year than in their senior year.A main effect of time(P=0.006)was also observed on sit-up quantity;cadets performed more sit-ups in their junior year than in their freshman *** between class ranks during the same year(between-subjects ANOVA)revealed a main effect of class rank on sit-up quantity(P=0.003);the freshmen completed fewer repetitions than the sophomores(P=0.018)and the juniors did(P=0.001).Conclusions:The results indicated that only the sit-up component showed differences between class *** findings suggest that the Air Force PFA may not be sensitive enough to detect changes in physical fitness or distinguish between class ranks regarding physical performance,even after years of *** limitation may b

An intelligent security systems engineering approach is used to analyze fire and explosive critical incidents, a growing concern in urban communities. A feed-forward back-propagation neural network models the damages arising from these critical incidents. The overall goal is to promote fire safety and sustainable security. The intelligent security systems engineering prediction model uses a fully connected multilayer neural network, and considers a number of factors related to the fire or explosive incident including the type of property affected, the time of day, and the ignition source. The network was trained on a large number of critical incident records reported in Toronto, Canada between 2000 and 2006. Our intelligent security systems engineering approach can help emergency responders by improving cr^tical incident analysis, sustainable security, and fire risk management.
