Attitudes towards Green Economy Concerns among Higher Education Students in Oman

Across the world, people are highly concerned with environmental matters, while worries about risks and threats continue. In recent decades, environmental concerns have drawn more international and national attention, particularly, the green economy, an area of environmental awareness that aims to reduce environmental risks and ecological scarcities, fostering sustainable development without degrading the environment. The present study investigated green economy awareness among the higher education students in Oman in general and Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) in particular to assess their knowledge, attitudes and practice regarding the green economy. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire that was delivered to all students of the nine university colleges. The descriptive data analysis revealed that most respondents were aware of the concept of the green economy. While general knowledge and awareness about the concept were generally satisfactory, there were still some misconceptions and a lack of knowledge about some other themes. Statistical tools such as the Chi-square test, WAS and factor analysis were used to analyse any differences in the perception of male and female respondents as well as college background and majors.

Incidence of cancer in Fallujah above 10 years age with over view of common cancers in 2011

Background: Cancer is a major health problem all over the world, the main obstacle facing cancer prevention is a lack of epidemiological studies to guide local or international efforts for disease control. Aims of the Study: To determine the incidence and pattern of cancer cases above 10 years old, assess the trends during the period of 2011 in Fallujah City. Methods: This is a descriptive study based on collecting of all cancer cases above 10 years old in Fallujah district of al-Anbare Province (Governorate) during the period between 1st of January 2011-31st of December 2011, new cases of males and females who were diagnosed with any type of cancer excluding leukemia which was referred and treated in different centers outside of al- Anbare Governorate. Results: The incidence of cancer in Fallujah is 96 per 100,000. The most common cancers in the whole population irrespective of sex were carcinoma of the breast, lung, stomach and colorectal cancers. The most common cancers in females were those of breast, ovary and uterus, comparative finding in males were lung, stomach and bladder cancers. Conclusion: The incidence of cancer in Fallujah appears to be higher than the other regions in Iraq and other Middle East countries, the overall pattern of cancer is however similar to the finding in other countries. Carcinoma of the breast, lung, stomach and colorectal are the leading cancers in Fallujah.

Botulinum Toxin Type A Satisfaction in Different Neurological Disorders

Background: The botulinum toxin type A (BoNT-A) is used in a wide range of neurological diseases. We aimed to study the overall patients/caregivers’ satisfaction with BoNT-A treatment in different neurological conditions. Methods: Prospective study included patients who had received at least two BoNT-A treatment sessions. They were asked to rate overall treatment satisfaction at the peak of treatment effect on a 1 to 10 scale (1 = not at all satisfied;10 = fully satisfied). Subjects with a rating of 1to3 were classified as not at all satisfied, those with a rating of 4 to7 as somewhat satisfied, and those with a rating of 8 to10 as very satisfied. Treatment satisfaction questionnaire for medicine (TSQM) was assessed at the end of observational period. Quality of life QOL was assessed before BoNT-A treatment and at the last visit. Results: The study was conducted from first April 2014 to August 2021. 548 patients were identified with mean age 43.66 ± 14.50. Most of participants 389 (71%) were female. At the end of observational period, the mean satisfaction was 7.28 ± 1.78. There was a highly significant difference (P P P = 0.001). Conclusion: Satisfaction with BoNT-A therapy for different neurological disorders is overall good. The highest patient satisfaction was observed with primary focal HH, and the least satisfaction was observed in writer’s cramp. BoNT-A therapy improved QOL.

In this paper, an efficient and accurate method is presented to solve continuous population models for single and interacting species using spectral collocation method with exponential Chebyshev (EC) functions. The first problem is a logistic growth model in a population, while the second problem is a prey-predator model: Lotka-Volterra system, the tbird is a simple 2-species Lotka-Volterra competition model, and the final one is a prey-predator model with limit cycle periodic behavior. The high accuracy of this method is verified through some numerical examples. The obtained numerical results are compared with other methods, showing that the proposed method gives higher accuracy.

Delamination in composite structures can be a serious threat to the safety of the structure. Delamination leads to loss of stiffness and strength of laminates under some conditions. This is particularly so in the case of compressively loaded structures as the loss of stiffness may lead to separation of layers, the consequences of which can be catastrophic. Causes of delamination are many. In aerospace applications, this includes manufacturing defects, as well as operationally induced defects such as bird strikes, hits due to runway debris and tool drops. In this work one of the main causes of delamination that is dealt with, is the one that redistribution of the stress state due to some defects all mostly like here is broken single fiber （cutout fiber） in composite system already initiated by one of the above causes. When a laminate is subjected to in-plane tension, the effects of delamination on the stiffness and strength may be characterized by analytical results concerning the onset of delamination growth and its subsequent development. Many of the analytical treatments deal with just free-edge delamination. In mean time the redistribution and the gradient of the stress state in composite system is playing an important role for causing delamination. The main task of this work is to analyze single fiber with and without cutout embedded in matrix. Different FE models were generated, from the results, the redistribution of the stress state around the defected fiber were presented and discussed. Finally concluded remarks were indicated.

Experimental Study on Solvent Extraction of Quseir Oil Shale in Egypt

In the present work, the effect of solvent on the extraction of the organic matter from Quseir’s oil shales was studied. The experimental results revealed that the extraction yield obtained by the tetrahydrofuran was very high compared to other solvents. In addition, the solvent had a significant effect on the yield and the composition of the obtained oil. The analysis carried out on the extracted oil showed that the tetrahydrofuran was a very efficient solvent for oil shale extraction, giving a better quality of the oils extracted containing a large proportion of aromatics compounds and fewer amounts of sulphur and paraffin compounds.
