Analysis of the Driving Force of Hydrodynamics in Lake Naivasha, Kenya

The hydrodynamics in Lake Naivasha, a shallow endorheic lake, are simulated using the Delft3D Flow Module to investigate the major driving forces of hydrodynamics in the lake. The results showed wind as the major forcing. The shallow zones of the lake showed currents movement in the same direction as the wind while the deep zones showed currents movements against the wind direction. These findings were confirmed and further explained using an idealized model. Limited exchange between the crescent Lake (crater lake which is temporally separated from the lake during low water levels) and the main lake was observed. These findings can explain the spatial variability of the water quality in the lake. Similar studies could be used in exploratory studies of the spatial-temporal variability in water quality in other shallow water systems.

Altered biomechanics due to amputation can contribute to substantial limitations,influencing sporting *** with lower extremity amputations or congenital lower limb deficiency are encouraged to participate in ***,to compete in Paralympic sports,the candidate must have an impairment that results in lower extremity loss of function and meets or exceeds the sport's minimum impairment criteria(MIc).This review will focus on the MIc for competitive wheelchair *** deficiency is known as one of the MIc used to regulate participation in competitive para-sports since it impacts gait,kinematics,and biomechanics of both the upper and lower ***,it is questionable whether the MIc concerning limb deficiency is set at the correct level for determining eligibility for participating in Paralympic *** study aims to provide an overview of the evidence examining the impact of different partial foot amputation(PFA)levels on gait as a proxy for sporting *** scoping review will be based on a 6-step methodological framework and Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis,extension for scoping reviews(PRISMA-ScR).Studies will be selected from PubMed,Embase,cINAHL,and *** authors will screen the titles/abstracts *** studies will be scrutinised,and the same authors will extract *** will be relevant to informing the evidence-based development of MIc for lower limb impairment after PFA and may be extrapolated to specific Paralympic sports,including wheelchair *** will be disseminated through scientific publications and conferences to audiences interested in Paralympic sports.

The Profile of Abundant and Essential Fatty Acids in Depot Fat Varies More in Kiwi (Apteryx mantelli) than in Other Avian Species

Direct and dendrographic comparison of the profiles of abundant fatty acids in depot fat was unable to separate 10 avian species on a basis of their overall proportions but was able to distinguish broad dietary groups or those in a habitat with distinctive nutritional characteristics such as avian marine carnivores. In all species considered, including North Island brown kiwi (Apteryx mantelli), oleic (c18:1) and palmitic acids (c16:0) were most abundant. The relative proportions of linolenic (c18:3) acid were 4% or lower across all species, while the relative proportions of palmitoleic acid (c18:0) were less than 7% in nine of the avian species, with the exception being the insectivorous red-eyed vireo (Vireo olivaceous). The levels of linoleic acid (c18:2) were lower in avian marine carnivores than in avian herbivores, insectivores, and omnivores. Whilst the mean values of the individual fatty acids in fat from various avian species were separated by hierarchical cluster analysis, the wide range of values of each fatty acid precluded any correlation of clustering with any known variation in dietary items. Similarly, the wide range in fatty acid composition of kiwi fat rendered it unhelpful in determining the optimum composition of the captive diet.

Learning in the clinical environment is an integral part of nursing education programme. In tertiarybased nursing courses, students spend time learning in the clinical setting as they do in their classroombased studies. The purpose of this study was to explore teaching skills considered by undergraduate student nurses as effective in the clinical setting as well as qualities that make a clinical teacher effective. A descriptive design was employed using questionnaires to collect data. Respondents comprised year four undergraduate student nurses admitted through direct entry (DE) and university matriculation examination (UME) results. Using validated structured questionnaire, data were collected from 101 students who had completed their six months consolidated clinical experience on their perception of teaching skills and teacher qualities considered effective in the clinical setting. Data were analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Specifically, frequencies, percentage and standard deviation were used for descriptive analysis of scores while chi square and Mann-Whitney tests were used to test the mean differences in the teaching skills and to test whether there was a significant difference in their perception of teacher behaviours respectively at 0.05 level of significance. The result showed that having both clinical (professional) and teaching knowledge were the most important teaching skills for effective clinical teaching. Five qualities ranked by students as teacher behaviours important for effective teaching include being honest with students, motivation to teach, willingness to listen and using good communication skills, supervising students effectively and being positive role model. These factors could be considered when recruiting future clinical teachers and when planning inservice education programmes for clinical teachers to promote student learning.

As a resource reservation mechanism,the Resource ReSerVation Protocol (RSVP) faces a lot of challenges when applying it to the wireless and mobile *** interworking problems of RSVP and mobility management protocols have been extensively discussed over the last *** the solutions of this problem,mobility-aware RSVP schemes that integrate RSVP and micro-mobility management are becoming more and more ***,the investigation on how much they improve the performance of the basic RSVP is necessary and *** of the traditional simulation based approaches,in this paper we introduce a formal performance evaluation formalism,named Performance Evaluation Process Algebra (PEPA),and employ it to investigate the performance of the basic RSVP and mobility-aware *** performance metrics such as handover blocking probability and signalling cost are presented.

Eastern oyster (crassostrea virginica) abundance has declined severely over the past century along the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States. For varied reasons, overfishing among the foremost, bivalves no longer make up considerable reefs as was common. While discourse continues on oyster restoration and augmentation, gaps in knowledge of c. virginica and regional environmental interactions remain. Our primary aim was to examine the c. virginica filter feeding of phytoplankton in the Hudson River Estuary, New York city. Secondarily, this study examined the filtration of these oysters in relation to environmental attributes. chlorophyll-a, the predominant photosynthesizing pigment in red and green algae, is an indicator of phytoplankton productivity in aquatic settings. crassostrea virginica consumes first-tier plankton from the water column’s seston;thus analysis of chlorophyll-a content allows estimating phytoplankton concentrations, from which oyster filtration efficiency (FE) was quantified. Water conditions (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, salinity, turbidity, tide and flow rate) also were recorded. Spectrophotometric determination of chlorophyll-a concentration methodology was derived from the Standard Methods text favored by the US EPA. This project compared real-time Hudson River Estuary (HRE) water samples prior to passing through a contained oyster reef and samples of water post-filtration. This sampling scenario was unique as the contained reef used was fed by HRE water. Most studies on oyster filtration have been laboratory-based, and few assessed oysters in the field. This study took place at Pier 40, the River Project Wetlab, lower Hudson River along Manhattan. The FE of this reef was calculated for two months during various environmental states which can be the basis of future investigations. "cF chatters": the development of a theoretically informed physical activity intervention for youth with cystic fibrosis

Despite the benefits of physical activity for youth living with cystic fibrosis (cF), the majority of patients are insufficiently active to meet physical activity recommendations. Existing physical activity interventions are atheoretical and tend to prescribe standardized exercise regimes which are often not appealing for children and compromise long term adherence. Following recent calls for counselling based physical activity approaches in the cF population, this study describes the development of a theoretically informed, parent-mediated, behavioural counselling intervention for cF youth―“cF chatters”. We first a) describe the development of a grounded theory of physical activity in youth with cF;b) explain how this theory informed the development and implementation of the cF chatters program and c) reflect on the findings of our pilot intervention using a case study research design. cF chatters participants demonstrated self reported increases in physical activity and quality of life. While further development and more robust objective measures are needed to extend this investigative pilot work, our findings suggest that behavioural counselling is an effective modality for enhancing physical activity participation and quality of life in this life limited group of children and youth.
