Despite the benefits of physical activity for youth living with cystic fibrosis (CF), the majority of patients are insufficiently active to meet physical activity recommendations. Existing physical activity interventions are atheoretical and tend to prescribe standardized exercise regimes which are often not appealing for children and compromise long term adherence. Following recent calls for counselling based physical activity approaches in the CF population, this study describes the development of a theoretically informed, parent-mediated, behavioural counselling intervention for CF youth―“CF Chatters”. We first a) describe the development of a grounded theory of physical activity in youth with CF;b) explain how this theory informed the development and implementation of the CF Chatters program and c) reflect on the findings of our pilot intervention using a case study research design. CF Chatters participants demonstrated self reported increases in physical activity and quality of life. While further development and more robust objective measures are needed to extend this investigative pilot work, our findings suggest that behavioural counselling is an effective modality for enhancing physical activity participation and quality of life in this life limited group of children and youth.

Infantile hemangiomas(IHs)are the most prevalent benign vascular tumor in children,with an estimated rate of 5-10%.Most IHs resolve spontaneously after the proliferation stage,but about 12-24%develop with sequelae and complications which require pharmacological interventions[1].The beta blocker propranolol is considered as the first-line treatment for complicated cases of IHs[2].

The trucking industry is a major force behind the United States （US） economy with approximately 750,000 interstate motor carriers. Trucks deliver 70% of all freight tonnage while 80% of U.S. communities receive goods exclusively by truck. The motor carrier industry provides jobs, generating significant income and tax revenue, representing approximately 5% of U.S. GDP （gross domestic product）. Despite one of every 13 people employed in a trucking-related job, there is a significant driver shortage. The ATA （American Trucking Associations） currently projects a shortage of 20,000 to 25,000 drivers in the for-hire truckload market. Women are well positioned to address this shortage. In 2011, women represented 7% of total employment in the U.S. trucking industry. The purpose of this study was to identify truck design needs for women truck drivers. This research is significant due to limited data sources about truck design needs for women drivers. This study also contributes to the body of knowledge about women in the trucking industry. In response, a 33-question survey was developed using QualtricsTM survey software. In April, 2012, an electronic survey was distributed to 663 Women in Trucking Association members over a two-week period with a response rate of 18%. Results were separated into quantitative and qualitative data and analyzed accordingly. Adjustability was a central issue facing women truck drivers. Recommendations for seat design, side mirrors, steps, handrails, hydraulic hood lifters, and steering consoles will be presented. Limitations of the study and recommendations for future research will be discussed.

A method based on regression modeling was developed to discern the contribution of component chemicals to the toxicity of highly complex, environmentally realistic mixtures of disinfection byproducts（DBPs）. Chemical disinfection of drinking water forms DBP *** of concerns about possible reproductive and developmental toxicity, a whole mixture（WM） of DBPs produced by chlorination of a water concentrate was administered as drinking water to Sprague–Dawley（S–D） rats in a multigenerational study. Age of puberty acquisition,i.e., preputial separation（PPS） and vaginal opening（VO）, was examined in male and female offspring, respectively. When compared to controls, a slight, but statistically significant delay in puberty acquisition was observed in females but not in males. WM-induced differences in the age at puberty acquisition were compared to those reported in S–D rats administered either a defined mixture（DM） of nine regulated DBPs or individual DBPs. Regression models were developed using individual animal data on age at PPS or VO from the DM study. Puberty acquisition data reported in the WM and individual DBP studies were then compared with the DM models. The delay in puberty acquisition observed in the WM-treated female rats could not be distinguished from delays predicted by the DM regression model, suggesting that the nine regulated DBPs in the DM might account for much of the delay observed in the WM. This method is applicable to mixtures of other types of chemicals and other endpoints.

背景我们对婴儿心脏手术中脑氧饱和度的变化及其与解剖学诊断和早期预后的关系进行了研究。方法将104例接受双心室修补无主动脉弓缩窄手术的先心病患儿随机分成两组，两组的红细胞比容分别稀释至25％和35％。用近红外光谱仪监测各时点每例患儿的局部脑氧饱和度（rSO2）。结果在心肺转流前，与右位型大动脉转位（D-TGA）和室间隔缺损患儿相比，法洛氏四联症（TOF）患儿局部脑氧饱和度较高（P〈0．001）。在心肺转流降温、低流量转流及心肺转流结束时，右位型大动脉转位患儿的局部脑氧饱和度最高（P〈0．001）。但各组间手术中局部脑氧饱和度和早期预后经校正诊断后并没有明显关系。39例接受≥5分钟深低温停循环[deephypothermiccirculatoryarrest（DHCA）]的右位型大动脉转位患儿中，停循环开始时的局部脑氧饱和度（91％±6％）及红细胞比容（29．2％±5．5％）与停循环中的局部脑氧饱和度下降速率没有明显关系。结论手术中局部脑氧饱和度随解剖学诊断不同而变化，但是与手术后早期预后无明显关系。正如使用额叶近红外线光谱探头测量局部脑氧饱和度所示，高红细胞比容与当今的灌注技术似乎可为深低温停循环在短期内提供足够的氧储备。
