Forest practices in headwater catchments are related to environmental and social *** aim of this study is to analyse the changing protective functions of forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.(North Bohemia,Czech Republic)since the second half of the 19th *** time,forests have gradually changed from native stands to spruce plantations(Picea abies),introducing exotic conifers(more resistant to air pollution),and,recently,back to more diverse mixed *** priority in pro-tective forest functions there shifted from flood protection to integrated control of water resources(quantity and quality).In the 1980s,forest-water interactions were degraded by consequences of extreme acid atmospheric deposition,forest die-back,and extensive *** the Jizerka catchment,first signs of recovery were observed in the early *** waters there are still affected by prolonged *** reconstruction of stream water chemistry at Jizerka follows the drop of the acid deposition in some 5 years,the revival of stream biota takes 10-15 *** 2071-2100,the pro-jected climate change shows rising annual air temperatures by 3.0-4.6℃,decreasing water yield by 65-123 mm,60%drop in'minimum residual discharge',and 20-30%rise in ***,these projected environmental changes cannot substantially decline the high potential in water resource recharge,or,start reverse processes in recent recovery from acidification and radically affect the exis-tence of planned mixed forests in the upper plain of the Jizera Mts.

Effects of Organic Matter-Rich Amendments on Selenium Mobility in Soils

Soil organic matter (SOM) plays an important role in the Se dynamics in soil. The potential effects of vermicompost and digestate as important sources of SOM on selenium (Se) mobility were assessed in this study. Three soils differing in their physicochemical parameters, fluvisol, chernozem, and luvisol, were chosen, and three types of vermicomposts based on various bio-waste materials as digestate (vermicompost 1), kitchen waste with woodchips (vermicompost 2), and garden bio-waste (vermicompost 3) were used due to their high organic matter content. Additionally, digestate samples alone were applied. To evaluate the potential effect of vermicompost application on sorption characteristics of soils, batch sorption experiments were performed. The results showed a predominant effect on Se species in the soils, where selenite sorbed more intensively compared to selenate, regardless of the soil and ameliorative material applied. In the control, the soil sorption ability of selenite tended to decrease in the order: fluvisol > luvisol > chernozem. However, these differences were not significant. Moreover, the effects of the ameliorative materials depended on both soil and amendment used. In fluvisol, all the amendment applications resulted in a decrease in distribution coefficient ( K d values) of Se, whereas in chernozem, this effect was observed only for the digestate-based vermicompost 1. Increasing K d levels were reported in luvisol treated with digestate;the application of garden bio-waste-based vermicompost 3 tended to decrease the K d values. Further studies are required on long-term effects of these amendments on Se mobility in soils and the role of individual organic matter fractions in this context.

The impact of preozonation on the coagulation of cellular organic matter produced by Microcystis aeruginosa and its toxin degradation

Ozonation pretreatment is typically implemented to improve algal cell coagulation. However, knowledge on the effect of ozonation on the characteristics and coagulation of associated algal organic matter, particularly cellular organic matter(COM), which is extensively released during algal bloom decay, is limited. Hence, this study aimed to elucidate the impact of ozonation applied before the coagulation of dissolved COM from the cyanobacteria Microcystis aeruginosa. Additionally, the degradation of microcystins(MCs) naturally present in the COM matrix was investigated. A range of ozone doses(0.1–1.0 mg O3/mg of dissolved organic carbon – DOC) and ozonation pH values(pH 5, 7 and 9) were tested, while aluminium and ferric sulphate coagulants were used for subsequent coagulation. Despite negligible COM removal, ozonation itself eliminated MCs, and a lower ozone dose was required when performing ozonation at acidic or neutral pH(0.4 mg O3/mg DOC at pH 5 and 7 compared to 0.8 mg O3/mg DOC at pH 9). Enhanced MC degradation and a similar pattern of pH dependence were observed after preozonation-coagulation, whereas coagulation alone did not sufficiently remove MCs. In contrast to the benefits of MC depletion, preozonation using ≥0.4 mg O3/mg DOC decreased the coagulation efficiency(from 42%/48% to 28%–38%/41%–44% using Al/Fe-based coagulants), which was more severe with increasing ozone dosage. Coagulation was also influenced by the preozonation pH, where pH 9 caused the lowest reduction in COM removal. The results indicate that ozonation efficiently removes MCs, but its employment before COM coagulation is disputable due to the deterioration of coagulation.

Rilmenidine prevents blood pressure increase in rats with compromised nitric oxide production

AIM: To search tools of high blood pressure in the model of nitric oxide (NO)-defective hypertension, and the study focused on the effect of rilmenidine, agonist of imidazoline receptors, which was suggested to modulate central sympathetic outflow. METHODS: Three experimental groups, each consisting of 7 rats, were used: (I) rats with inhibition of NO synthase (NOS) by NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) 40 mg·kg-1·d-1 for 4 weeks in drinking water, (II) rats with inhibited NOS as in group I , plus agonist of imidazoline receptors rilmenidine 3 mg·kg-1·d-1 for 4weeks by gavage, and(III) control rats. Systolic blood pressure wasmeasured weekly noninvasively. At the end of experiment aortic ring isometric tension was followed, NOS expression (aorta, left ventricle), and NOS activity (left ventricle and brain) were determined. RESULTS: In the group I systolic blood pressure in- creased significantly, aortic ring relaxation to acetylcholine was significantly attenuated. Rilmenidine administered simultaneously with L-NAME (group II) prevented the increase of blood pressure which did not differ significantly from control values; aortic ring relaxation to acetylcholine did not differ from control. No change in NOS expres- sion (aorta and left ventricle) was found in groups I and II. Significant decline in NOS activity (left ventricle and brain) wasfound in groups I and II. CONCLUSION: Rilmenidinehas aremarkable role inNO-defective hypertension, possibly by inhibiting central sympathetic outflow and by affecting receptors in vascular smooth muscle also. The prime cause of hypertension in this experimental model - the compromised production of NO due to inhibition of NOS - was not affected by rilmenidine.

Inflammatory bowel disease incidence in Czech children:A regional prospective study,2000-2015

AIM To examine the incidence and trends in pediatric inflammatory bowel diseases(IBDs) over 2000-2015 and project the incidence to 2018. METHODS A 16-year prospective study of IBD patients < 19 years of age was conducted in the Czech Republic(the Pilsen region). All incident IBD cases within a well-defined geographical area were retrieved from a prospectively collected computerized clinical database. Historical Czech data were used for comparison(1990-2001). Our catchment population was determined from the census data. We calculated the incidence by relating the number of newly diagnosed cases to the size of thepediatric population-at-risk in each calendar year. Age/sex, disease type, place of residence, and race/ethnicity were identified. RESULTS In total, 170 new IBD cases [105 Crohn's disease(CD), 48 ulcerative colitis(UC), and 17 IBD-unclassified(IBD-U)] were identified. The median age at IBD diagnosis was 14.2 years, 59.4% were males, and 97.1% were Caucasians. A male preponderance of IBD(P = 0.026) and CD(P = 0.016) was observed. With 109209 person-years in the catchment area, the average incidence of IBD per 100000 person-years was 10.0(6.2 for CD, 2.8 for UC, and 1.0 for IBD-U) for children aged 0 to 19 years; for those aged 0 to 15 years, the incidence rate was 7.3(4.6 for CD, 2.0 for UC, and 0.7 for IBD-U). An increase in incidence with age was observed(P = 0.0003). Over the 16-year period, the incidence increased for IBD patients(P = 0.01) and CD in particular(P < 0.0001), whereas the incidence for UC(P = 0.09) and IBD-U(P = 0.339) remained unchanged. IBD-projected data from 2016 to 2018 were 12.1, 12.3 and 12.6 per 100000 personyears, *** Pediatric-onset IBD incidence is around its highest point. The increase, which is particularly pronounced for CD, may be challenging to relate to causes of pediatric disease.

Schizophrenia is a severe psychiatric disorder characterized by emotional,behavioral and cognitive disturbances, and the treatment of schizophrenia is oftencomplicated by noncompliance and pharmacoresistance. The search for thepathophysiological mechanisms underlying schizophrenia has resulted in theproposal of several hypotheses to explain the impacts of environmental, genetic,neurodevelopmental, immune and inflammatory factors on disease onset andprogression. This review discusses the newest insights into the pathophysiologyof and risk factors for schizophrenia and notes novel approaches in antipsychotictreatment and potential diagnostic and theranostic biomarkers. The currenthypotheses focusing on neuromediators (dopamine, glutamate, and serotonin),neuroinflammation, the cannabinoid hypothesis, the gut-brain axis model, andoxidative stress are summarized. Key genetic features, including small nucleotidepolymorphisms, copy number variations, microdeletions, mutations andepigenetic changes, are highlighted. Current pharmacotherapy of schizophreniarelies mostly on dopaminergic and serotonergic antagonists/partial agonists, butnew findings in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia have allowed theexpansion of novel approaches in pharmacotherapy and the establishment ofmore reliable biomarkers. Substances with promising results in preclinical andclinical studies include lumateperone, pimavanserin, xanomeline, roluperidone,agonists of trace amine-associated receptor 1, inhibitors of glycine transporters,AMPA allosteric modulators, mGLUR2-3 agonists, D-amino acid oxidase inhibitorsand cannabidiol. The use of anti-inflammatory agents as an add-on therapy ismentioned.

Trilayer anisotropic structure versus randomly oriented structure in heart valve leaflet tissue engineering

It has been hypothesized that leaflet substrates with a trilayer structure and anisotropicmechanical properties could be useful for the production of functional and long-lasting tissue-engineered *** investigate the influence of the anisotropic structural and mechanical characteristics of a substrate on cells,in this study,we electrospun trilayer anisotropic fibrous substrates and randomly oriented isotropic fibrous substrates(used as controls)from polycaprolactone ***,the random substrates had higher radial and lower circumferential tensile properties than the trilayer substrates;however,they had similar flexural *** valvular interstitial cells cultured on both substrates produced random and trilayer cell-cultured constructs,*** trilayer cell-cultured constructs had more anisotropic mechanical properties,17%higher cellular proliferation,14%more extracellular matrix(i.e.,collagen and glycosaminoglycan)production,and superior gene and protein expression,suggesting that more cells were in a growth state in the trilayer constructs than in the random ***,the random and radial layers of the trilayer constructs had more vimentin,collagen,transforming growth factor-beta 1(TGF-ß1),transforming growth factor-beta 3(TGF-ß3)gene expression than in the circumferential layer of the *** study verifies that the differences in structural,tensile,and anisotropic properties of the trilayer and random substrates influence the characteristics of the cells and ECM in the constructs.

Hydrodesulfurization activities of NiMo catalysts supported on mechanochemically prepared Al-Ce mixed oxides

Al2O3-CeO2 supports containing 1-10 wt%Ce were prepared mechanochemically by milling aluminum and/or cerium nitrates with ***,（NH4）4NiMo6O（24）,was used as the precursor of the Ni and Mo to prepare NiMo6/Al2O3-CeO2 components in catalysts by impregnation *** physicochemical properties of the catalysts were determined using chemical analysis,X-ray diffraction,temperature-programmed H2 reduction,temperature-programmed NH3 desorption,X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy（XPS）,and the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller *** catalyst acidity decreased with increasing Ce concentration in the *** showed that the NiS/MoS ratio decreased two-fold for the Ce-modified alumina ***6/Al2O3,which had the highest acidity,showed the highest activity in hydrodesulfurization of 1-benzothiophene（normalized per weight of catalyst）.The concentration of surface MoOxSy species（which is equal to the concentration of Mo^（5＋）） gradually decreased to zero for catalysts with Ce concentrations 10 wt%.However,the activities of all the catalysts prepared mechanochemically from Al2O3 and Al2O3-CeO2supports significantly exceeded that of a reference NiMo6/Al2O3 catalyst prepared by impregnation method using the same precursor and with the same composition.

Basic theorem as representation of heterogeneous concept lattices

We propose a method for representing heteroge- neous concept lattices as classical concept lattices. Particu- larly, we describe a transformation of heterogeneous formal context into a binary one, such that corresponding concept lattices will be isomorphic. We prove the correctness of this transformation by the basic theorem for heterogeneous as well as classical concept lattices.

Hyperspectral reflectance contains valuable information about leaf functional traits,which can indicate a plant's physiological ***,using hyperspectral reflectance for high-throughput phenotyping of foliar traits could be a powerful tool for tree breeders and nursery practitioners to distinguish and select seedlings with desired adaptation potential to local *** evaluated the use of 2 nondestructive methods(i.e.,leaf and proximal/canopy)measuring hyperspectral reflectance in the 350-to 2,500-nm range for phenotyping on 1,788 individual Scots pine seedlings belonging to lowland and upland ecotypes of 3 different local populations from the Czech ***-level measurements were collected using a spectroradiometer and a contact probe with an internal light source to measure the biconical reflectance factor of a sample of needles placed on a black background in the contact probe field of *** proximal canopy measurements were collected under natural solar light,using the same spectroradiometer with fiber optical cable to collect data on individual seedlings'hemispherical conical reflectance *** latter method was highly susceptible to changes in incoming *** spectral datasets showed statistically significant differences among Scots pine populations in the whole spectral ***,using random forest and support vector machine learning algorithms,the proximal data obtained from the top of the seedlings offered up to 83%accuracy in predicting 3 different Scots pine *** conclude that both approaches are viable for hyperspectral phenotyping to disentangle the phenotypic and the underlying genetic variation within Scots pine seedlings.
